UNRELIABLE

We made an appointment for 4 days out for a hardwired washer/dryer in a rental unit to be changed over to an outlet. I was told they would call 30 minutes ahead and work would likely be done in the morning. I never heard from them on the morning of service, so I called and left a message. They called me back after awhile to let me know they weren't coming out anymore. My tenant took off a day of work for this, and we have Lowes delivering our new washer dryer tomorrow morning which they now can't do since the electrical work won't be done. Very unprofessional and unreliable.

The Worst

I would not call them scam artist just 50x more expensive than they should be . Shame on them, and shame on anyone who uses them

Original review Sep 24, 2018
I called them to fix a floaty on a sump pump that cost $6. They tried to convince me I needed a new pump (I showed tech it was working) and he gave me a proposal for $1000. I had another service company come right after them and they fixed the whole thing is 7 minutes. the part cost $6,$6! After they gave the $1000 quote I said that is a joke and the tech said " I sell the product but dont set the prices" He knew that they price was ridiculous. He also started walking around the house and pointed to our "Old" heating unit " hot water" heater etc and telling me what was wrong with them when Nothing is. We have great heat in house and great hot water. He was just trying to drum up business. He knew that I was not a sucker when I started questioning him on what he was doing. I would not call him a scam artist but definitely there are better companies out there to deal with who are honesy

I guess they’re just out for the $$$...what a shame.

I called 10 days ago with a slow bathtub drain. I had used snakes and used liquids but it was still slow. Figured I’d better call while the problem was small. Technician was very nice. He sold me a solution to use 5 nights then every month. It was $185 which I refused. Somehow it then became $131so I agreed and used. That was in addition to the $319 to unclog the drain. My drain is now completely clogged and has 4 inches of standing water. Also when u turn on the sink the water go into the tub. I called Weltman - assuming they would come out and fix the problem I paid $300+ for...nope, not unless I agreed to pay $75, again, to have someone come out. I pulled out the receipt and sure enough: “there is no warranty on today’s work”. They obviously do not stand behind their work. Run, do not walk, away from this company. (To Weltman: do not call me as I have someone else coming to fix your mess)

Weltman Home Services - Plumbing Service Review from Berkeley Heights, New Jersey

The laundry sink drain in our basement was clogged & since I had seen a Weltman truck in our neighborhood (New Providence, NJ) I phoned for a quote but was told a $49 charge would be incurred when the rep came and assessed the job. When he came several hours later he agreed it was the line from the laundry sink to the main drain and quoted $285 plus tax. I told him I thought that price was very steep (since I'd seen competitor ads for $99) and asked if there were a discount (senior, veteran etc). He said NO but could waive the $49 house call charge ? and showed me an Ipad with Weltman's charges for drain cleaning ( which displayed a price above $500 for a laundry sink but he said he would use the $285 charge shown for a vanity sink ? At this point I reluctantly agreed since it would have cost $49 to decline and have him leave. He used a hand held electric snake and was able to clear the clog. I asked about a warranty and when he asked for how long I suggested 60 days to which he replied he could do 30 days. Yesterday, 38 DAYS LATER, the drain clogged again so I phoned Weltman and explained that we are 8 days beyond the 30 day warranty the rep gave and asked for them to re do the job at no cost since it happened so soon and just my wife and I reside in the house and don't run the clothes washer very often. I was treated as though it was my original request ($49 plus whatever the rep would want after coming) so I asked the woman if I could speak with a mgr but she said he wasn't there. I asked if she would have him call me and she said she would E Mail him and request that he call me. Within minutes, the same woman called me back and said her mgr said 30 days was the policy. She asked if I wanted a rep to come out. I said I would get back to her after I thought about it. I then phoned a well known competitor and asked for a quotes since they advertise "Any drain cleaned for $99". On the phone they said $99, came two hours later and used a large machine on wheels (vs the small hand held tool Weltman used). This man ran that snake 75 feet out into the line that goes to the street (vs 20 feet the Weltman tech told me he did). Not only did this new company honor their $99 advertised price but applied a 5% Senior discount without being asked AND warranties the job for a FULL YEAR during which they will come again AT NO Charge one time. Weltman charged us THREE TIMES as much and obviously didn't do the job properly and then wanted $49 to return (plus probably another $285 to do it again). PS: Before writing this, I phoned Weltman today to tell them of my displeasure as well as the fact that I had to spend an additional $99 to do the job after paying them THREE TIMES that much just 38 days prior (during which we may have used the clothes washer a half dozen times). The man I spoke with today offered nothing but said he would make his manager aware and took my name and phone.

Weltman home services

My furnace was leaking water all over my basement floor and I called Weltman Home Service at 7 AM and I had someone over by 9:30 AM. The service man was Hector Figueroa who was very peasant and took the time to explain what the problem was. I was pleased with the quick service and everything seems to be fine. So far I have no complaint about the service I get. I am very happy that Anton Cunningham suggested that we sign up for the service contract when he was out servicing our furnace. I will continue to report back in the future if there is any update. Anna

Overpriced

I had a 12 foot section of old iron pipe that was starting to show cracks and chips and looked like it needed to be replaced by PVC. It was in the basement and is the waste pipe leading out to our septic system in the backyard. I called Weltman and they came over and gave an estimate of $1,600. Weltman said the pipe was ready to burst and that it was an emergency that I get it fixed and that they were giving me a good deal. The price sounded completely outrageous and I had time to get other estimates. The very next plumber I called came over and gave estimate of $400. He also said the waste pipe was not going to burst and in time could leak, and its not an emergency, but still a good idea to replace it. Of course I went with the second estimate and they were able to fit me in the same day. Glad I shopped around and didn't go with Weltlman.

Sump pump installation: the bad and the good

During major rain storm, my sump pump konks out and water is entering my basement. I called Weltman at 5:00 and was told service technician would be by around 8:00, i called at 7:30 to be sure they were coming, water still coming in, and was told it would now be 1:00am! I called another company and was told 9:00. Then at 8:30, Weltman guy shows up surprisingly, so I cancel other company. Weltman guy quotes me - brace yourself - to just install a sump pump that I bought for $300 at Lowe's - brace yourself - $579!!! What can I do? The water is still coming in. He installs it in under an hour and doesn't want to take the old pump and garbage with him. The new pump does the job, but I'm stewing over the price - I had to get the work done or else my basement would be a flood zone. The next day I call to speak with a boss, leave my name and number, a manager calls back soon after, I tell my sad story, emphasizing their price was DOUBLE the $200-$300 I expected to pay for a nighttime emergency job and - brace yourself - she took $250 off the price!!! So now I don't feel totally abused, but why would the initial price have been so out of wack? My guess is they get what they think they can get - no set prices - not the best business model!

Weltman Home Services Plumbing Services Review from Brooklyn, New York

Prices way to high. I had called for a pipe repair, the work was done and I'll admit there are no issues at with the repair. Just do your research so you get a fair price - Im too embarassed to even say what they charged, it was, in my opinion a few hundred higer than it needed to be. Also, be mindful of their "service contracts" strings attached (but then again doesnt that seem how most service contracts are)

ESTIMATE OVER CHARGE

I recently lost heat in my home... I contacted Weltman as they had installed the furnace in my home...A rep ( named David ) came to my home. He advised my wife that that I needed a new circuit board and that the cost would be $1,087.00 with a contact and $1,146.00 without a contract.. My wife went on line and advised the rep that a circuit board can be purchased for about $180.00.. He seemed annoyed at my wife.. He wrote up the estimate and left it with us.. I called in another Company who advised me that that it wasn't the circuit board and all I needed was to change my air filter and move the snow from my vent.. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!

Prices

This company is a rip off. Wanted over 800.00 for a job that another plumber charged me 125.00. Got nasty with my wife when she told him to leave. They do not give prices over the phone but do insist they are very competitive. They charge a fee if you say you do not want them to do the job - 50.00. The mechanic was less then knowledge with then nature of the problem and tried to tell my wife that we were about to have a major flood if not fixed at once. The replacement plumber said it was a minor problem with no chance of a flood.

Too expensive to replace a blown part of a furnace

Weltman employee came in to diagnose the problem with my centralized air-conditioning unit because it went down early A.M. The guy told me that he needed to replace the blower motor on the furnace. He priced it at $1800 without the one year service contract and $1600 with it. He said that I needed to make a decision that moment because he had to order the part so that they can fix it the following day. He also recommended to just replace the whole furnace/boiler since it's 15 years old already instead of spending that much money on that 1 part! Luckily, I have a utility worry-free contract, the part was covered by the insurance and I only paid $200 to have it replaced! Big price difference!

The worst company

I rate this company a 0...this company takes advantage of senior citizens..charged my 80 year old father was taken advantage of they were charged $.7000 for a $1500 job.rep on phone rep. didn't care. Please never use this company.I have contacted the better business bureau already and channel 7 news, what this company did was an outrage. I was never treated so poorly by any company in my life. never call this company ..the rep on the phone tried to justify changing 8 feet of pvc pipe and knocking down part of a wall should cost $7000.i got a new bathroom put in my house for less than that how can a good company actually justify this,,,no integrity from top to bottom..

Late and Overcharged

Scheduled emergency hot eater heater service at 10AM. They said the technician would be there between 11-3. Got a call at 3 and they said he would be there at 7..He finally showed up at 9PM...I knew I needed a new thermocouple....after a hard sell to purchase a new HW Heater for $4000 I settled on a non guaranteed fix of $400 for the thermocouple...turns out that a new thermocouple costs no more than $20....the tech was there for 2 hours most of the time trying to up-sell me for a new HW heater all new pipes an expansion tank and a DI-lithium reactor if he could. The thermocouple worked..thank God..I called to complain about the price and all they said is that they would give me discount coupons on the next service....nice try....the invoice has no breakout for the charges...sure would like to know where the extra $384 minus the $20 for the part were billed against...Te thing was fixed but the price was a rip-off.
