Worked for vanovers.

Most of the men when I worked there were good finishers and installers. If he fires you or you quite. He will keep your last check. And make lies up to keep it

Do Not Hire This Contractor

I worked for a company that hired Vanover's on numerous occasions. For the first couple of years they did fair to good work, and we believed them to be a fair and honest subcontractor. On the occasion when they were overpaid by accident (fortunately only about $1,500), we were advised that they would refund the overpayment. After a month of back and forth and being told that "The check is in the mail", I went to their offices requesting our check, and the owner's secretary (he refused to see me) said that they would send the check the following week - that money was tight. Two weeks later when they had still not refunded the money, they said they would keep a credit on our account. When my employer called the subcontractor, the owner refused to talk to him as well. We never worked with them again, and I encourage people to check the owner and the company out on line and see the many complaints against him - from clients as well as previous employees.

Review from Beltsville, Maryland

Vanover is a terrible business, they hire people and pay them minimum wages to start out, regardless of your expierence, its obvious by reviews on this company other places on web, its the only way they earn profits, they hired me, and an hour later told to my face the three immigrants have more experience than me, I have been carpenter over 20 years. I have three beautiful children from a "mexico" lady, so I'm not racist, but I am racist with these companies around here and the construction industry in nova, its time to just get it on with all of them, cowards , fakes , its a racket this area and the problems of employment,

DO NOT SUPPORT THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR BUSINESS

Needless to say our experience with Vanover's Harwood Floor's was horrible. Esp. with the actual owner, Dwight Vanover. The man is a thug. No details needed. The company has been found guilty of tax fraud: http://www.ustaxcourt.gov/InOpHistoric/vanovermemo.TCM.WPD.pdf Also, on their website it claims they are BBB accredited. Here's the BBB's website. http://www.bbb.org/washington-dc-eastern-pa/Business-Reviews/hardwood-floor-contractors/vanovers-hardwood-floorworks-co-inc-in-woodbridge-va-800****#reasonrating Notice the BBB's "Advertising review"? BBB actually asked them to remove the claim to BBB accreditation. Just look around at other reviews on google and what-not. Very very very negative feedback and resting on almost all of them. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY

Terrible communication

The salesman was told to match the Bruce prefinished gunstock. Minwax gunstock was used and the color was way off. Red vs. brown. There was so much stain applied to the floor it took over 2 days to dry. Then I came up with adding a different stain to tone down the red. Another day in delay. There are obvious sanding marks in the floor. A few spots where the original finish wasn't even sanded off. There are waves in the finish. The crews did not show on time if at all to the promised time. Calls were not returned. This company just wants your money and doesn't care about workmanship.

Will not complete job

I contracted with Vanover’s to install transition strips (to separate the hardwood floor between my kitchen and living room) and to refinish the kitchen. After a couple attempts to get a rep to come to my house to look at the job, they sent an estimator. I showed the estimator what I wanted as far as the transition strips by pointing to one side of the kitchen that already has the strips and told him I wanted the same thing on the opposite side of the kitchen, which adjoins the living room. He gave me a written quote and we scheduled the work, which I was told would take 3 days. I moved my pregnant wife and 2 young kids out of the house and into a hotel for 2 nights so they wouldn’t have to endure the fumes and because we had no use of our kitchen. When we returned at the end of the 3rd day, the work was not done. After calling, I learned that it would take 4 days and he alleged that he told me this initially. This was not the case. To make matters worse, the crew installed a raised threshold, which looked absurd and was nothing like what I pointed out to the estimator. When I asked what the story was with that, I was told that was what was on the agreement. Well, shame on me for not catching that he had written “threshold” instead of “transition strips” on the quote. Regardless, I needed the correct transition strips installed and asked that they do that. This is when the run-around began. Despite promises they would get it right, I can’t get them to actually show up. They have no-showed 3 times and this has dragged out for 4 weeks. This has cost me 2 days off from work to be here plus one day for my wife. The company avoids my phone calls and after 4 requests to have owner, Dwight Vanover, call me, I have yet to receive a call from him. All I get is excuses and lies. This is the most unprofessionally run business I have dealt with.

Vanover's Floor -- Criminals and poor products

Vanover's Floor supplies a *** product with even worse customer service. They do not stand behind their "lifetime" warranty on their hardwood floors. A total fraud. Don't believe anything they tell you. Brand new wood floor in our new home, and within a month the wood splintered in our feet. My baby had a large chunk of wood stuck in her foot. I had 2 pieces stuck in my foot as well. For 5 months Vanovers scheduled 6 separate appointments promising to fix the floor but would never show up for the repair. After months of promising to stand behind their work, they now refuse to fix the floor.

Vanover did not live up to a written agreement

Updated by user Sep 25, 2012
The Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs attempted to reach a compromise with Vanover Floors but they refused to negotiate. The case remains open in the event anyone checks with Consumer Affairs. I hope this prevents Vanover from taking advantage of anyone else.

Original review Aug 24, 2012
I am a builder. I hired Vanover to install oak hardwood on two levels of a new home. After 3 years of denial and negotiation, Vanover finally agreed to honor their warranty and replace all the defective hardwood. After removing all of the defective hardwood Vanover required money to finish the repair. Since the house was uninhabitable I was in no position to delay the project and felt compelled to pay Vanover. I paid Vanover the money they required so that my client could move back in his home. When the job was completed, I asked for reimbursement as this was clearly not my fault. Vanover refused to reimburse me. I would not consider using Vanover again. I strongly recommend that anyone considering using Vanover think twice about hiring them.

Vanover's Hardwood Floors in Woodbridge, VA BEWARE!!!!

Do your research, there are complaints all over consumer sites!!! Everything from illegal workers, owner is a felon, ex-***, ripping off employees, etc. RUN for your life and have your hardwood floors done by anyone else. I have first hand knowledge of their practices. They appear to be legit. However their license information is impossible to find, as well as their address. But they are at 1010 Cannons Court, Woodbridge, VA. Owner's name is Dwight Vanover and partner is Ronald Cooke. Don't buy into how many years they have been in business. I'm sure Dwight's forefathers would be disgusted.
