Trace.con is a ripoff

Trace.com refuses to refund my $150. They said it was their "scoping" fee.
What scoping? They looked at nothing that would even remotely meet my objectives. They just decided to give me a whole new set of objectives on their own and then they charged me for a scoping fee.
That is a total ripoff. Very bad company.

I paid $150 to have this company start a genealogical project for me concerning my ancestors in Greece. They had me write my objectives over and over and over. I know how to write objectives. It was just a stall tactic. Then they wanted me to divide my objectives into two parts so they could charge me twice. I refused. They agreed to my objectives but after a few months, they sent me an email stating that they rewrote my objectives to be all about my family in the US and would only charge $700 for that service. I have done extensive research on my family in the US. They told me they couldn't find my father's village. All they had to do was to ask at the nearest city, about 5 miles from the village. Obviously they had no researcher in Greece, contrary to what they told me originally. They refuse to give me my money back even though they did not fulfill a single objective of mine and, I believe, never contacted anyone in Greece. Stay away from this company unless you want research done in the US, the same research you could do on your own by joining Ancestry.

Beware, you pay for nothing
They dropped the "USA" and go by trace.com now. I paid $250 for them to regurgitate the information I gave them. Their final report omitted information that I easily obtained on my own, they told me that a birth certificate indeed exists but they can't obtain it due to "privacy restrictions." I contacted them after receiving the report and asked if maybe a next of kin can obtain the certificate (which I am), and they did not respond. I gave them my parent's names and lo and behold, they were the only two with my surname living in Detroit at the time; and yet, I know that other family members with that same surname lived in Detroit. How did they not get that information? Their report shows that most of the research they did one performed 3 months after I paid them (3 weeks before the final report), and they were all Google searches. They refuse to communicate with me, refund a portion of my money, etc. These people are thieves.

Ripped off.
I paid their 37.99 fee for a SSN trace but was never given the information. I tried calling customer but the number goes directly to a voicemail and no one returns your call. I also tried to follow up with and email only to get no response from their customer service department. It's a total scam. This should be illegal. How can a company register via PayPal and except payment through a protected sight is beyond me. Take my advice, steer clear from this fictitious company. I plan on filing a complaint with the better business bureau in the morning.

Usa trace won't stop charging card
I filed a report in Feb 2011 , about the rip off at usa trace, It seems they have many web sites with different names, they bill you from different web sites they own and you can't stop them.There is no phone to call and email is answered in 48 hours but with no information or how to stop them. C I S International is one more of many corrupt sites. If you have any legal things to talk to them about you have to go to Boston Mass. By signing their contract you cannot opt out. They billed me again on March 28,2012

Company is to find people. They took my 39.99 and gave me no report, they do not answer their phone number,they do not answer their email, they have a BBB icon to click but it is not working, so they are using the BBB but not a member, They do not have a support or help clickable place. Their site is very hard to navigate for a reason. Once USA trace .com gets your money , thats it. You can not email them unless you use their form, and it is useless. Their phone says there is no one there but you can leave a message that will not be answered
