Web-sight contradicts it’s self.

I was looking up the differences between UVA, UVB, & UVC. The information although helpful, and very detailed, had changed how UVA & UVB work & effect our skin. Starting with UVA penetrating our skin the deepest, then saying UVB penetrated the deepest just a few paragraphs on in the article. So, it cant be both. Anyway that is all i know of this company or its web-sight. So, not hating, just suggesting a correction.

They have terable doctors

My mother passed away from cancer because upmc has a doctor that ignored how my mom was feeling. We decided to take her to another provider that doctor did what should have been done just to find out that she had cancer all though her body. She passed away. When I brought this is their attention they ignored it with excuses. There is no excuse for this.

Excessive phone waits

This is for Harrisburg area only. Pittsburg seems to have something that works. What good is having a phone number to call if no one answers? . 3 calls to UCPA today approximately 1:30 listening to thank you for holding each time for 10 minutes. Only option 1 addressed appointments. Option 2 nurse line no different. I could have used the Doctor line ( Im a retired ER doctor) but that is not right either. AND, the Portal doesnt offer enough customer service options to message either. What the alternative? Im doing it. I cant see any other business ( that corporate medicine has become) staying in business. But, we are captives to the monopoly. Hershey is not an alternative , in my opinion, for physicians or availability. UPMC does that well Im thankful. Whats the reason for not answering calls? Volume of calls? Short staff? The bottom line in the budget ? Enough. Thank you reading

Rude *** security guards

I was talking to my friend on the phone that I had incredible pain in my groins and that they took my urine sample my blood sample and completed my testing they knew exactly what wrong with me but kept me waiting. The security guard came up to me disrespected me spoke to me rudely and asked you f I was recording him I told him no next time I will. He said I should be explaining to my best friend my issues and told me I should turn off my phone while he was admonishing me rebuking me and if I continued talking to my friend he would and take my phone away furthermore he said if I continued talking to my friend I would be escorted off of the premises I have never ever been treated so rudely by any member of any staff of any medical facilities like this in my entire life

Need billing resolution. Excessive.

Their communication and consumer access needs a complete overhaul. I think they are not throwing enough personnel at the situation whether that is because there is lack of budget funding or simply lack of experienced people available for hiring to do the work. There seems to be some internal weaknesses. I think their processes need to be examined.

I had emergency room care. Excessively high bill. Inability to communicate with customer service.

Updated by user Jun 13, 2023
I had little choice but to enter an Emergency Room. I may have to choose to die. UPMC must understand that the billing of health services is also part of total health care and promise "to do no harm" when medical care is given.

Original review Jun 12, 2023
I had an emergency room visit on June 12, 2022. The billing was 42,000 + for 13 hours in their ER. Drugged seemingly the whole night. No communication with me or my wife about treatment. Drugges again before the laparoscopic operation for appendicitis. Kept in the recovery room for two hours extra. Billed 5,000 $ for two extra hours. Lost my medical card information from Switzerland. MyUPMC was registered with a local address not my Swiss address. Was contacted by a Customer Service person after many tries on my part to communicate about my billing which was not received until November late. It would not have been received unless I was the one who reached out. Tried to contact Angela Charonis Director of Customer Service. Not available by phone or email. Referred to Jolene D'Andrea and she does not pick up her phone or return messages. Tried to call 412 - 647 - **** and no information was given by the recording about the services I need. Just a poor, poor organization that is just completely disorganized and brokenN

Tried to schedule an apt and wasn't able.

I tried twice to call and schedule an appointment as a new patient. Waited on hold for 20 minutes both times and then the call just ended. I also tried to schedule an appointment with my son's pediatrician and had the same problem. I finally just ended up going to the office and scheduled it in person. The doctor I was trying to see for myself is a great doctor and very well regarded but UPMC scheduling/customer service is absolutely terrible.

UPMC for THEM, NOT YOU

I had a double spinal fusion done 26 years ago and have had arthritis in my lower back for over 10 years. I've fallen FOUR times in the last 3 weeks and they still won't approve my MRI. I cannot walk any distance without a scooter which I cannot afford and cannot do laundry or other chores. If I lived alone I'd be completely FÛÇKED.

Awful

I had a medical concern and sought treatment at UPMC. Very unresponsive throughout the process when answering questions or concerns, but very prompt to overcharge me for the awful care I was provided. I need the images from an exam and UPMC is not sending them to me, as the technology to mail the file is not quite there yet. Feels like a joke.

Not allowing me to pick up prescriptions until 31 days

I have never had an issue/complaint with any insurance company until now. January until now all 3 of my son's prescriptions had issues when attempting to pick up, each time I call they claim they fixed the issue but they didn't. Originally they said I could pick them up on the 28th day, next month was the 29th day, last month was the 30th day and this month they said I had to wait until my son ran out (which is on the 30th day) and the day after he ran out I would be allowed to pick them up. So he will have no medicines In the morning before school (since the pharmacy doesn't open until 9) and I will be late for work running to get his medicine, then I have to rush them to his school just so they can give him his other medicine he is supposed to have after lunch... And if I don't have his meds there in time, the school nurse questions me and implies she will have to call the pharmacy/doctor if they are not in on time. The lady I spoke with at UPMC kept insisting it was a month, I politely asked her to count the days three times (since I knew it would show they aren't letting me pick it up until the 31st day) she kept refusing and repeating it was a month. I'm not sure where their mindset is when they think it is ok for someone (let alone a child that needs it in the morning and afternoon for school), to run out of medicine. I'm going to switch to another insurance company and further avoid these upsetting situations.

No communication whatsoever from supports coordinator

I am the aide for a homebound, bedridden male who requires transportation because of wheelchair issues. The supports coordinator or supervisor have failed numerous times to return calls or simply set up transportation. We call daily & get the same response & it's very draining. At this point all we can do is pray someone will be professional enough to help us.

Nasty doctors

Went to see my UPMC cardiologist at St. Margarets office and the nurse came in wanting to review my pills. I take sixteen and don't know all of them. I suggested that what was on the computer was correct as nothing was recently added or removed. The nurse stomped out the door and the doctor returned suggesting that I find another cardiologist. Then later posted on my on line chart that I used vulgar words. Just a month earlier I was informed that a date for the ICD implant was set for November 2nd but a health issue came up and I was admitted to an out of nearby network hospital and I was then placed with an ICD earlier on September 8th. Doctors in the UPMC network seemed to be totally indifferent towards me since including this Dr.Powers incident. The nurse who was with the hospital cardiologist who was originally going to place the ICD was really upset about me getting the ICD placed by a different out of network hospital. Was really rude and demanded I give permission for them to get that out of network records of the ICD placement. I am beginning to not like doctors after this incident.

Customer Service - Scheduling

They hang up, make you wait for up to an hour, and they never return phone calls. This company now behaves like pathetic cheapskates'. Yes, the homeless have better benefits than UPMC - They are awful!

I went to the hospital by ambulance they did all the tests that needed to be done quickly but after that I was waiting for hours I was there from 11:06 til almost nine and still wasn't seen

I had to leave cause of my ride has to be up at 4 in the morning and the staff couldn't guarantee me that I would have a ride home I waited several hours and never was seen by the doctor I was there at 11 in the morning and I left around 9 it's unacceptable ! I didn't get the help I needed and still feel pretty *** so if you have a emergency I recommend goin to another hospital
