Bad business practices! TF will teach you exactly how not to treat your clients!

Where to being? Let's start with Sales reps that incessantly call until they hook you. I signed up for an Elite Contract with a partner. The first red flag is that my name is the only name on the contract. That's $1699 a month. I was told dont worry dont worry you partner goes on the contract. In essence after I signed the Elite contract for 12 months (14k) they then allow a partner to join for $300 a month with no obligation. Yes two of us intended to split charges for our team. Less than 30 days into the contract due to extenuating circumstances we canceled our partnership. We immediately notified our coach and TF team to see if we could cancel the contract. We brought up the fact that we were told by TF employees we'd be on the same contract (which were not) and that we could switch cards each month in the illum system so one of us wasnt always paying the $1699 each month. None of this was true!! When we spoke to Noreen from their retention team (ie Hostage situation) she sounded like she was actually going to try to help us out. That turned pretty quickly, and theyve given me two options, drop down to core and pay $749 a month and re-sign another contract or continue in Elite. Neither are good options as beside the whole partner situation, I feel the coaching is a joke!! Im a high earring agent who is looking to take my business to the next level... the coaching feels like one size fits all and isnt personalized to you or your market!! Save your money, find a mentor in your office, Im regretting every second of this. Plus their contract is iron clad, I shouldve know better when I read it, no one has to button it up that tight unless they have a *** product!

If Their Coaching Program Is Guaranteed To Work, Why Do They Need A 12 Month Agreement?

There is a reason that they make you sign the 12 month agreement. Let's start with the free "coaching" session: it was just a sales pitch. Guy on the line promised way more than what this company ended up delivering. In my case he said that coaching would pay for itself thanks to the referral section in Illum (The Hub at the time). That section stayed empty the entire time that I was enrolled in coaching. There were no referrals coming my way. The first few times that I received a coaching call I realized that it was just a 30 minute pep talk. I thought that eventually my coach, would start teaching me something useful. Never happened. Didn't even help me develop a solid business plan which was one of the things that my so called "Client Success Representative" said he would do. He just kept referring me to their "resources" (PDFs and podcasts that don't teach you anything that you can't learn for free online.) Eventually the coaching sessions just became a massive inconvenience. Sometimes I wouldn't know one was scheduled until the night before. Finding role play partners is incredibly difficult. They told me to go on their secret Facebook group to find them. On a typical day it took me about 45 minutes to an hour just to find someone who was available to role play. After a few months I finally realized what I had gotten myself into. When I ran into financial difficulties I told them that I wanted to cancel because I could no longer afford two pep talks a month for $649. I didn't ask for a refund I just wanted to cancel their services. I was contacted a few days later. That's when this company showed it's true colors. They are not interested in your success. They are now threatening me with "bad debt" if I don't pay a ridiculous settlement to cancel my contract. They want me to pay for subpar services I won't receive. My advice for agents who want to grow their business: invest your money elsewhere.

Very bad experience with Tom Ferry coaching program

Very bad experience with TF coaching program myself, 1.No blueprint /Maps from the coach as I needed and expected from the program, basically each coaching call is just about the trouble shooting for the ongoing deals which I can gain the advice from my managing broker with no extra charge. 2. After joined the one year coaching program, My GCI was dropped from 110k to below 30k annually, I was KW realtor and found KW's Ignite Training is much more helpful. I talked with the customer service people to express my unhappy with the coaching program and no one really care and give me any follow up or solution except selling me the event regularly. 3. I joined the Bill Pipes script spring event in LA in Feb.2018 -where I met several coaching members and shared the same experience as I have. Just know how disappointing. 4. I claimed for the money back after one year's bad experience and was tricked by the staff and was told I am not qualify money back as I didn't join the summit, my coaching program was finished in Jun and the summit was in Aug, is it realistic for me to attend?? It's definitely over promised and under delivered program. Think about Tom Ferry coaching program? do you due diligence and do think twice. If you have any questions for details I would like to share if you PM me.

Never never ever take their courses

Worst experience I’ve had in my life. I was taught everything that can be found online including scripts and schedules. By far the worst is that if you want to cancel early they charge you extra. I signed up for a year and they made me pay for the rest of the year. READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY!!! And save yourself time and money.

Signed up but no coaching call made until I wanted to cancel

I signed up for Tom Ferry coaching, I made a payment over 1700, this was the end of July 2018. The next payment would be in October. I received a call the next day from a gentleman who showed me how to use the site. He also told me that my Coach would be calling me in a day or two. I waited a week and no one called me. I tried to make an appointment over the internet to set up a time for someone to call me back. It was confirmed, but still no one called. I finally got fed up and called the receptionist and said "I confirmed an appointment with one of your staff members but I can't seem to get anybody". She told me because they saw I already signed up, they will not call me. I told her I want to cancel the membership. She transferred me to Rachel, I left a voicemail. Rachel called me back a few days later. I expressed my frustrations about no coach ever called me and I wanted to cancel. She informed me they had a summit meeting and she was sorry no one called me and would forward my complaint and someone would call me back. I waited for another week.. nothing, no call. I called my bank to see what they can do. I finally got an email on August 31, telling me that the coach tried calling me before the summit which is a complete lie. But said they will allow me to cancel without a refund. What makes you entitled to people's hard earned money when you rendered no service. Please Don't Sign Up no matter how good they make it sound. These people are trained to say the right thing to over come any and all of your / our objections. I am getting a lawyer to fight this company

Resolved: PREDATORY BUSINESS

Updated by user Aug 28, 2018
Amicably

Original review Aug 10, 2018
LISTEN CAREFULLY - I approached the Tom Ferry organization to inquire about their services and how they could help me develop my business. I had recently come out of a business that I was in for 17 years and was experiencing extreme financial challenges as I have 2 small children and all of the expenses that go along with that. The salesman with whom I spoke seemed to take a genuine interest in me and was supportive of my ideas and encouraged me to sign up. I explained that I was concerned about the financial commitment of $599 per month, but his confidence in my and the Tom Ferry program was somewhat intoxicating and I ended up taking a leap of faith and paid that $1198. This was payment for the first and last month’s fee in a 1 year agreement. I was told that I would initially have an introductory call with my coach and two 30 minute coaching sessions per month via a Skype-like video call. The coach got in touch with me and we had our introductory call. The technology for the video call was not great - not sure if that was on my end or their’s, so we just ended up on the phone. At the end of the call I was given a simple assignment and we scheduled our first coaching call for a week or so out. We had the call - the coach had some good insights and advice...nothing I couldn’t have picked up on a google search or with a talk with an experienced agent, but he certainly was competent and well intended. We scheduled a second session for that month, which the coach had to postpone - a new date was not scheduled right away. I began to realize that I had no business making a $599 per month commitment with no income coming in especially for a basic coaching service. I was told by the salesman that the average participant in the $599 per month program earns $300,000 per year in gross commissions. It became clear right away, that that number would take a very long time to achieve and if I were to continue paying $599 per month, there would not be enough money available for my family’s grocery shopping. I reached out to both the salesman that persuaded me to sign up and my account manager and told them that I signed up prematurely and that I would be putting my family at risk by continuing to pay for the service. I also told them that a second coaching call was never scheduled for my first month. I got an email back telling me that they could put my account on hold for a month. The next month I still did not have any commissions coming in and they agreed to put my account on hold for another month. Bear in mind - I was not asking them to put my account on hold. I was explaining that I signed up prematurely as I had no income to pay with. The following month I got an email from Louis Torres in the accounts receivable department with a SETTLEMENT OFFER DEMANDING PAYMENT OF $2995.00 ON THE $5990.00 THAT THEY CLAIMED I OWED THEM. THIS WAS A THREATENING LETTER WHICH EXPLAINED THAT FAILURE TO PAY WOULD RESULT IN FURTHER COLLECTION ACTION. So this company that was so concerned with my success in the real estate business, was now taking a hostile, adversarial position with me - It was nauseating. I do not believe the salesman that got me to join had anything but good intentions. He was just doing his job - and boy was he trained well...very well...maybe too well. However TOM FERRY HAS DEVELOPED A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS AND PREDATORY BUSINESS MODEL AND YOU SHOULD THINK LONG AND HARD BEFORE GETTING INVOLVED WITH THEM AT ANY LEVEL. I am sure there are some success stories with this organization, but based on the number of bad reviews all over the internet - and there are a lot, I know that I am not alone in my feelings. A lot of what they are selling can be found at no cost with a little research on the internet - and if you need support, get an accountability partner to work with. I hope this business will eventually see the error in their ways and discontinue their predatory business practices. I WILL SOON BE POSTING A YOUTUBE VIDEO ON THIS TITLED “TOM FERRY PREDATORY BUSINESS”, WHERE I WILL TELL MORE OF THIS STORY AND SHOW A COPY OF THE THREATENING LETTER FROM LOUIS TORRES.

Scammers

Tom Ferry tricked me. I reached out to them as new agent to find out about their coaching program and I was convinced of signing up for a program that was out of my budget range, but I signed up because I was told I had 3 days to try it out and if I wasn't satisfied I could cancel within the first 3 days with a form they provided me. The form had to be filled out, signed and either sent to the email they provided or mailed through the post office to an address they provided. Well, I didn't wait 3 days, I canceled the very same afternoon. I sent the first Notice of Rescission within a few hours, since I received no reply, not even an automated one, I sent another, again no reply so the next day I went to USPS and sent a printed and signed copy of the Notice via USPS certified mail. They haven't refunded me the amount yet and my bank says that all the documents I have given them were filled out correctly and within the terms of the contract but for some reason Tom Ferry is still fighting to not return my money. This has been going on for a little over 2 months. Is the company doing so bad they need to steal from people? I have my contract, I have the signed Notice of Rescission and all the proof necessary to prove I canceled within the 3 days of the contract 3 different times, the very same afternoon I signed up for the program. #iwantmymoney #iwantanswers

Worst Place to Work. First hand experience

I worked for tom ferrys main office in irvine, ca about 2 years ago. I have always been great at sales and have enjoyed selling reputable products. Let me tell you this is far from reputable and in my opinion complete scam. Its total hard sell training. No doesnt mean no. if they dont have the money make them find it. and on and on. They make it seem so great after you get hired but once you see 6 people let go in your first week the story seems pretty clear to me. It made it very depressing to come to work knowing that i was trying to rip people off. honestly i just stayed for the base pay because i had to pay rent. I made 1 sale and felt so bad about it that i reached out to her privately the day after and told her to rescind. To give you a clear idea of whats going on it looks like this. Adult scam artists who have probably been dishonest their entire life training naive college age kids how to rip people off. then a weird ceo walking around acting like a cheerleader. dont ever work here people please and more importantly NEVER SIGN UP FOR COACHING. IT WILL HAUNT YOU FOREVER!!!

Waste of money

I did coaching for 6 months and it was a huge waste of money. First I had a coach that didn’t know what the *** he was doing. The second one even worse and the third one was better, but that it was towards the end of the course. It’s funny how they hire real estate coaches that don’t even have a great real estate track record. Now, let me tell you, I know successful real estate agents using tom ferry and they like it. My thinking after doing TF coaching is: Do you want to succed? Go work for a successful real estate team and pay your dues - learn from them!

Scam, stay away, read every word of the contract!

Don’t believe in their money back guarantee!!! Read every word of the contact if you decide to sign up. This entire thing just feels like scam. They very much overpromsie and underdeliver. After a week of trying to choose a right couch, I finally thought I got the best. When Ferry and the co gave me some pushback about. The couch sounded very promising at first. He later on, however, did forget about me twice. Every time we talked he sounded like he didn’t really care much. He sounded annoyed and I got the feeling that he just wanted to get it over with. Our call he forgot about me completely and I was all ready but he took a while to call back. Their hub is a bunch of confusing buttons. That day I felt that $1,099 a month is completely not worth it. I called my customer service rep and requested to finish all this nightmare. Which he said would be resolved ASAP. Three weeks later still no call, I had to chase them, but the person in charge would just not call me back. It all came to a second charge yet again. That’s where I got very concerned and called my bank to dispute the transaction. The day later I finally got a call. The lady was absolutely insane. Very rude, very unprofessional, said they would sue me if needed. Sue? Ok let’s do it then! That’d be fun watching how far this “amazing” “caring” “professional” company will go to sue a realtor to keep him in their “success program”. Highly encourage you all to stay away. Not only it’s not worth it at all, but also they make you feel like *** when you tell them you don’t feel the value. What good can peops like that teach you guys? Another scam? Not sure I That’s how you want to run your business!

Resolved: One Sided and Untruthful

Does the Tom Ferry International care about their customers? I don’t know to be honest. A lot of people have had great results from what I’ve heard. I enrolled in Tom Ferry Elite+ coaching program after being told in the summit that I would 5X my investment. I thought it was a good decision so I enrolled by paying semi annually. I thought I paid quarterly but apparently billed for 6 months. Anyway. It was a guarantee that they didn’t have in their contract so they had to check if it was “ok” to pencil in the guarantee on the contract and they did. This should have been a warning sign. They do make lots of guarantees so be careful it’s in the contract. So I began the journey as a new licensed agent thinking I would make it big. The bad part was as soon as I wanted out because I wasn’t seeing a return and for health reasons, they refused coaching calls until I sign another agreement. On month 3 they sent me an agreement to cancel with a non disparagement provision which means you can’t talk badly about them and I try to be an honest person and I just can’t do that. They wanted to settle for fees paid meaning $6,319.00. 6 months of services paid, 3 months of services rendered. Not exactly fair, right? Eventually it reaches the point where their billing department reaches me and we had a great conversation. I stated I can’t sign an agreement to terminate and not talk badly because I overpaid for services. The gentleman stated they wouldn’t be pursuing further and that they would not be going through collections. So month 6 hits and I get a call from the same guy. Frustrated I stated, “Do I have to file a lawsuit to make this go away” something like that and I ended up hanging up. I probably was wrong escalating that. So I called him back and I explained that he stated no collections and my reasons for not liking coaching. He stated very gently that he would review it and get back to me with his team. He also stated no one ever stated they wouldn’t be pursuing further. Maybe 20 minutes later he stated email that they will only settle for full payment. So 12,600 something. So initially they stated 6,319 that’s fine you overpaid nothing will be done but apparently now they want another 6,000 and if I don’t it will be settled as bad debt. Didn’t take very long I guess? What they say and what they write can be two different things. The people on the phone can be very different than what they write. I personally believe that they are not in the best interests of the consumer. Their contract is written in such a way to never be able to get your money back. If you read the contract, most of what is written is in the organizations best interest and not yours. And I explained that to the accounting guy and he didn’t disagree with me. I stated it had many risk shifting provisions. As a new agent, I feel taken advantage of. I’m sure they have helped many people but for an organization to say they provide value but yet be so strict on their refund policy and enforcement of contract and provide you with no way out I think is unjust. The way this organization could do better is to make sure the guarantees they make are in the contract from the start. Consumers shouldn’t have to request terms penciled in.

PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH / TEACH

In 2017 I attended a Tom Ferry event in Tampa, Florida which all the emails that were sent to me promised 'life-changing' and will help your business. I actually got up and left this event a bit early, because the entire hour or so it was "you need coaching" over and over and there was no actual information at this event. Months later a rep. named Michael contacted me and explained how their methods could help me and assured that I would learn better ways of generating leads using the internet and by other means. He sold me on the service so I signed up. The coach assigned to me sent me an email asking what my YTD sales were and what I needed help with. So I immediately replied. Our first conversation I was pretty positive and excited about. During our first 'coaching session' I was asked again the information that I had sent back already (like he didn't read it) and talked he basically had me watch about 8-9 hours of videos on the TF website. Nothing really in it that I already wasn't exposed to. He also mentioned posting videos is important and had assigned me to make a video. That was it $300 spent. Also, there was an app that I was told to download and fill out my sales info, which when I tried just would not work. A week or so went by before that could even be used. Before second coaching I was sent an email asking the same information as before the first session. When we spoke at in the coaching session it again was like he never read the info that was requested and the session turned into a 30-minute session on how to fill out the TF 2018 budget. At this point, I was getting agitated, because the online system basically prompted you for the information and it was self-explanatory. There was absolutely nothing discussed to actually help me with the No. 1 reason I joined. $300 wasted again. At this point, I had emailed my rep. Michael, and requested that all services be suspended until we talked about the service I had paid for. In the meantime, they used one of my 'credits' for a coaching session that never occurred.I spoke to the representative and explained my extreme disappointment. He asked if I was upset with the Coach, and I explained that not so much the coach, but was not helping me with what I signed up for. So I gave the coach another try, BIG MISTAKE. The third coaching session made it obvious that I had wasted at this point. The first thing the coach did was make a comment that the sales rep. did not know what he was talking about on a billing issue. Then the coach mentioned that the office that I work for should be helping me with what I signed up for and if they can't that maybe I should go to another agency. Absolutely shocked and totally negative feeling after this. Could absolutely not believe this. BETWEEN SESSIONS - NO CONSISTANCY. Also, the sessions were to be recorded and be available for download. Only the 1st one was available. Coincidence? Between the 2nd and 3rd session, the card that this was billed to was lost and what had happened I was not going to pay any more until I received the service that I was sold. 3-4 calls a DAY from their billing department, every time I answer I explained no more until issues were resolved. So I spoke the rep. again, was assigned a new coach. The new coach called me one afternoon (which I was lead to believe was for me to interview him, he talked to me for a good amount of time and actually seemed to care. Later I found out that this was considered one my calls. I was a little upset that I was not informed that this was to be a coaching call. Due to the holidays, I was unable to schedule another session, it is now the new year and the 1-2 sessions that I had paid for that I had remaining I CAN NOT use because I did not /will not continue to pay until I receive the service I already paid for. ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY!

FIRST CLASS results and they care about me, family, and my business.

Original review Jan 19, 2018
Tom Ferry and the 3 coaches I have had care about me. Each call is maximized by completing the homework assignment before the call. As a salesman I m used to making 10-20 promises and doing zero. So the coaching has helped most by learning the most important 1-5 things to complete before the next call. If only 1 item is complete the accountability and guidance to get results rather than stay in my bad habits. The amount of real data and examples to copy is worth 10 times the amount I could produce or hire out on my own. The systems and structure have replaces my emotional roller coaster and memory that can not properly serve myself or the agents I employ. Real Estate takes talking to 1000 people to get 60 appointments and without improving your skills and being nice to people the 10 - 20 sales from that WORK will fail and you can never really get ahead of your bills. If you do the cycle in 90 days or 10 years the 100,000 to 200,000 $ of commission will be there. Its always simple but not easy without the support of coaching and motivation of the message they brilliantly deliver. Im happy I am involved. if you ask for 100 reviews only a hand full of people will complain or explain how they feel. MJ in Seattle, WA.
