Disappointed: Estate & Trusts

I am disappointed that for an Estate/Trust that only had $7,869 in income for 2022 and yet the charge to file was $124.95. Seems excessively high compared to filing as an individual with that income which would have been free. Plus they never even responded to my email. Very disappointed. --Walt

SOFTWARE & Co is AWFUL !!!

Their software is terrible. I had a file my extension twice because the software kept adding a price in there even though I was only filing an extension and you can see all the advertisements all over the Internet say that the extension only for federal taxes in 2023 is free. What a horrible experience. I will never deal with this company again they were the pits. I can't believe the United States of America would list a resource of horroble software company

Skyrocketing prices and eliminated customer service

Original review Mar 16, 2023
I have complained to TaxAct for several years regarding the exorbitant price that they have been charging. My price went up from like $10 for the premium edition in 2015 and bounced around and in 2022 it was $150 for the self-employed addition, in 7 years. When I complained about the pricing during this past two years, they refunded me $20 some odd dollars each year. But when I tried to contact them for technical support today, it was an absolute joke and impossible to get to speak to anybody. My evaluation of TaxAct has plummeted like a rock. They obviously aren't customer service oriented at all and neither are they customer oriented with their crazy swings in pricing.

Joke!!!

I have been on the phone for 4 hours straight. First time I held for 51 minutes which I don't mind holding, but as soon as a person comes on I talk for 20 seconds and then hear a dial tone. So then I tried to go in and do it through chat. I was told she was very sorry but this wasn't her department and she would send me to someone that was. They couldn't help me so they gave me another number to call. You have the option to leave a call back number so that you don't have to stay on the phone. I tried that this time. The lady that called me back said she couldn't help me because I did it on my phone and not on my desktop and that was not her department. So as I was trying to explain something to her, CLICK! I googled if there was a corporate number and I did get a number for customer relations I believe it was and guess what, Busy!!! Last year my husband and I used them and everything went fine. But this year IRS sent us a letter that they needed information on something so that's the only reason I'm trying to contact a live person. So I have learned this year that if you do have an issue that comes up there is no chance that they're going to help you with it, even though you pay for that privilege. To anybody that is listening, pay the extra money and just go with h&r block or whoever you choose. Yes it cost a little more money but you're working with a live person at all times. Everybody I spoke to today just seems so overwhelmed and I do believe that's why I got hung up on twice. The funny part is this is the small question that I wanted to ask them. How do I get into my taxes that I filed with them to make sure that I put the right numbers in from my 1095-a. Should be simple right, right! If just one person reads this, run from tax act!!!

2020 tax return

This is my third attempt today at trying to get my message across to taxact. Taxact is the most difficult company that I have ever tried to work with. I have tried to call more then eight times today and every time I take the time to write out in detail my concerns the message just disappears. I never received the federal tax return that I filed with the irs for the year 2020 through taxact. I did receive my state return but nothing more!

Not made aware of charges I was incurring - paid more than $100

I chose the free version of TaxAct. I knew I would have to pay for the State Module. The cost was $39.95 and I paid it. Upon reviewing my Federal return, I noticed there was no Schedule A. I poked around on the TaxAct website and found it under 'Other Documents." Unbeknowst to me, this ended up costing me extra $$ without any notification that I would be charged to access Schedule A. I ended up paying over $100 for my Federal and State returns. I subsequently learned that under the IRS Paperwork Reduction Act, they do not want a Schedule A. TaxAct "upgraded" the services I used without notifying me. I have used TaxAct for years, but will never use them again.Try 10Try 1trr

I have talked to the NYS Tax Department 2 times, they said You have my State Refund. I need it now $139.00. Also You charged me 98.00, it says it is free. I am getting a lawyer. I just want my REFUND. It did not go to my BANK like I asked.

So confusing and frustrating

Went to file and keep asking for things I never had. 1040 form (self-employed form) never was self-employed. Asked about unemployment I never was either . I worked at the same place for a year before I left and started where I am currently working. I have W-2s thats it thats all I have.

After I Paid No Way to Review Taxes and No Way to Contact Accountant

Beware of this horrible entity. I hired them in good faith. I uploaded my documents and had an initial call with an accountant. After that, I was asked some questions and had to point out that the information the accountant was looking for had already been provided (which didn't give me confidence that my taxes were going to be done correctly). I was also asked to upload two more documents and couldn't because the accountant forgot to unlock my account. Then I was told it was time to pay so I paid $279.95 for the full service option I had chosen. And now...nothing for over a week. I was told I could log in and review the taxes and schedule a call. I unable to do either. I repeatedly emailed the accountant and...crickets. I called TaxAct's Customer Support # and it goes around and around with annoying options, none of which lead to a human being. I now have to call my credit issuer and put the charge for "full service" tax returns with TaxAct into dispute (I know I will prevail there). It's the 11th hour and my taxes were not done and this wasted two weeks of my time when I could have hired a reputable firm or completed them myself. This is infuriating and TaxAct has a lot to answer for. First of all, you should be able to reach a person on the phone or by email--even if it might take a little while. I suspect this is a fraudulent operation and in addition to sharing my private financial info with them I also paid them so overall this was a scary experience. I hope people will read these reviews and avoid TaxAct. I plan on reporting them to the IRS and other government agencies. They need to be held accountable for theft, fraud, and negligence. If anyone wants to, we could start a Class Action Lawsuit if it's a trend for TaxAct to take money and personal info and not provide any further service as contractually obligated. Please learn from my mistake and do not use this service.

Stop payment of $94.90 just so i can fix my mistake and then i'll process the new tax with the correction.

I noticed after I paid for my taxes that there was a huge figure in the social security tax that was wrong. I went through this last year and just received my refund in January. i will fix the mistake and then process the payment again, it is still pending. I called the bank and they said to call you and dispute the charge and they will put the money back so I can make the correction.
