Taxmasters cheated me out of $ 4000. How can I get it back. They did nothing they promised me.

Taxmasters ripped me off!

TM gave me the run around, filed the federal but not the state, and wanted another $2,700.00 from me for that. Without warning they took out $1,350.00 out of my bank account. Called and called but no results. Want my $2,700 back from TM! They have done this to me and others. Their employees were trained to give callers the run around asking repeated questions over and over...think I spoke to every employee keeping a record of names. So infuriating to do this and I shoild have just gone to a CPA, but when you see an advertsement on CNN you would think they would be reputable. These people should be in jail! N. Friedman

Ripped off for $6000 by Tax Masters' vile and deceitful operation ...

I engaged the company due to an inappropriate claim of the IRS for back taxes. Tax Masters did nothing for their 'fee' other than to cause non-lawyers to manage my filling out forms .. I lost $6000 to these thieves. Their promises and advertising clearly stated that legal experts will manage my case. Yet, after cashing my check, they made NO contact with the IRS whatsoever. Further, when their scam was discovered they failed to notify me and, presumably others, of the issue. Even now, though my 'case' with them was several years ago, I have never been notified by any party, including 'bankruptcy' or 'class action' attorneys notwithstanding the fact that my contact information, including email address, was present in their records. Took $30,000 up front...

We were desperate to get our taxes resolved. Dave Ramsey highly recommended Tax Master to my husband. When they said our tax audit for a 5 year span would take $30,000 to resolve we panicked and sent them most of our savings. We need our money back. Someone should be held accountable for giving back our savings. When contract are signed in America the consumer is never protected! We have since hired two more services. The second did the same as tax masters. It is ridiculous how stressed the idea of owning the fed government affects our society! Please help!

$1200.00 deposit not acted on or returned

Updated by user May 07, 2013
Tax Masters filed bankruptsy March 19, 2012. They have an estimated $50,000.

There are over 20,000 complaints. To date I believe no one has had money returned nor will they see the money they lost.

There is no resolution to date. However, there are a number of Attorney Generals from different states involved in this case.

MY son was going into bankruptcy because of the taxes he owed. I saw the TV ad on Taxmasters and contacted them. I was told I had to send in $1200.00 deposit, so I did for my son Bryan Patrick Cullen, my name is Christine Constance D'Onofrio and the check was drawn on the bank of America. My son sent in all of his paperwork as requested and nothing happened. Nor was there any correspondence. I called several times and got different people and went no where. I called Texas Police Department but they could not help. We have had $1200.00 dollars stolen from us fraudulently when my son was facing a crisis.

Tax Masters location of owner

Mr. Patrick Cox was raised in Palestine, TX. His mother lives there. Palestine is in East Texas about 60 miles south of Tyler, TX. Maybe you can find him there??? Apparently Mr. Cox "took off," as filmed by a TV news crew, in Houston, TX which was the main location of his business. He was in front of a nice home with a very nice vehicle. Palestine, TX is not the home of the sharpest tacks in the tool kit. It is a small town with a small town outlook on the world. People there are not very helpful because they are apparently owning many deleterious traits.

Stole from Disabled Person

They said they would do an audit and get back to me, they did within 24 hours they explained that they could reduce my taxes owed and the cost would be $1,200.00 and this could be paid by cc in 4 payments of $300.00. They had collected 2 payments, that is when I heard they were going bankrupt, I called and asked that they discontinue the withdrawals, they said an agreement was an agreement. I called my bank and they explained since I used my cc I would have to cancel it, that was next to impossible.

Tax Masters destroyed me!!!

When I contacted Tax Masters, I told them I have a very sick child. Hospitalized almost every month for 7 months. They agreed to help by giving me payment installments. I needed help to resolve my tax issues. They quoted me a price of 2,200. As soon as I mad my final payment, I got a letter in the mail about them going bankrupt! They didn't help me. And they never answered the phone since. I am struggling with a young child who has a chronic illness. And I struggled to pay them that money. I need to get my money back. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to do it, but the info provided is a great start. Thanks

TaxMasters: 4 years, 29 contacts, 163 emails, nearly $11,000, No help.

This is kind of long winded, but after nearly 4 years, dealing with 29 different contacts, 163 emails, phone calls that I cannot count, most of which went unanswered, around $11,000, and absolutely no help, I have a lot to say. I had allowed myself to get behind in taxes owed to the IRS. My fault admitted. But behind I was none the less. So in July 2008 I contacted Tax Masters .The representative talked a good talk, and said all the right things. On 30-July-2008 I received the following email from Tax Masters concerning the IRS, and how I would benefit with TaxMasters services. Dear George, Thank you for contacting TaxMasters about your tax problems. In dealing with the IRS, remember a few very important things: If at any time you receive forms or notices from the Internal Revenue Service, contact us immediately. IRS letters, especially Certified Mail, often serve as notice of deadlines. IRS deadlines can be as short as 10 to 15 days. It is important we have the chance to respond to preserve your rights. If you receive a phone call from an IRS agent, or if an agent comes to your home or business, please contact our office immediately. Any information you provide to the IRS will be used to collect money. Once we are retained and have a Power of Attorney on file with the IRS, you have the right to insist that they speak with us instead of you - even if the agent should state otherwise. The problem will not go away. In fact, if you put off dealing with your tax problems, the IRS can, and likely will, levy your bank accounts, garnish your wages, and seize your personal property, including your house. The IRS, under certain circumstances, can even put you in jail. The peace of mind you will find in putting your IRS problems behind you is only a phone call away. Instead of worrying about losing your paycheck, your bank account, and even your house, consider how good you will feel after putting your IRS problems behind you by calling TaxMasters. You may want to wait to deal with your tax problems. The IRS won't. TaxMasters 900 Town & Country Lane, Suite 400 Houston, TX 77024 800-581-**** 281-497-**** 713-463-**** fax On receipt of this email, I jumped in hook, line, and sinker. Along the way, there were numerous occasions, that I know of, when I in the nick of time to meet IRS deadlines. And then maybe there were times I did not. I do know that there were at least three occasions that finally after constant calling and frantic emails, I barely made deadlines for extensions, submittal of information, and filing of returns. I have had to amend two returns where information provided to TaxMasters for filing was omitted costing 10's of thousands of dollars. And now as per TaxMasters, they are no longer representing me. But I will get back to this On April 12-13, 2012, after returning from an overseas assignment, I get a notice from United States Bankruptcy Court that was sent on 18-March-12 that TaxMasters was in Chapter 11. Again I attempted to contact any one of the 29 reps that I had been dealing with, No answers to emails, or phone calls. And Chapter 11 or not, I was still depending on TaxMasters to: "put my IRS problems behind me because I had called TaxMasters". Fortunately, I did not get TaxMasters to file the 2011 return. I had had my fill of them, and hired a local CPA. My returns had been completed, and also fortunately, I had until 17-April to file. I will take this opportunity to suggest: Get someone local, who you can deal with one on one. Finally with no way left to go 13-Apr-12, I called the IRS agent who had been assigned to my case. He was out, and returned my call on 16-Apr-12. I explained my dilemma, His answer was essentially most tax firms that are advertising on TV about paying pennies on the dollar are all the same. They make big promises, but their main goal is to keep their clients hanging for as long as they can. A speedy compromise would mean less time spent, therefore less money for the firm. They may not file chapter 11, but they do little for the client except accrue penalties and interest. I must note, that his understanding did nothing to decrease the debt owed, but by contacting them on expectation of what to do with the completed return. I could go on and on about TaxMasters, and "what a sorry group they are, and remember, the lesser parts make the whole". Also, I am sorry to have dealt with them. But I will suffice with a last comment: The IRS agent told me that he had tried contacted TaxMasters about my installment agreement, and was told that I had changed jobs, and they were no longer handling my case. So after taking my money for nearly four years, not to mention all the sleepless nights, they dropped me without even the consideration of notification by any contact what so ever. If I had not contacted the IRS directly, who knows? Let's just say it would be even less nice than at present.. Moral of the story: If you know anyone that needs assistance with IRS issues, suggest that they hire someone local, and possibly contact the IRS themselves. I should have in 2008. The only true thing that TaxMasters sent in the email: "The problem did not go away", Even after hiring TaxMasters.

Taxmaxters took $750.00 and did nothing for it

Taxmasters was supposed to negotiate with the IRS a tax that I should not have had to pay. Taxmasters did absolutely nothing on my behalf. When I called to complain I got a HUGE pass the buck. "Oh, that is not my department." "I'm not really sure what department you need for this...but it is not here" I'm sorry if anyone from Taxmasters does not know where to refer a call there is something very wrong. The all play innocent and dumb at the same time. Bottom line they did nothing for the money I had to give them which was $750.00. I want my money back!

Paid $4700 to Tax Masters and did nothing

have a problem with IRS from money I took out of savings, saving admin did not withold taxes even though I requested they do so. Contacted Tax Masters, they said could reduce my taxes from 18K to about 5K. I pay Tax Masters $4700 up front and sign some papers, which I did, Tax Masters would contact the IRS, they did. Then I would have a Tax expert contact me with the settlement offer Tax Masters made with IRS. 3 years later about 200+ phone calls and much delays, lots of promises from Tax Masters, I get a notice from IRS of my pay being garnished. I got on the phone like crazy to Tax Masters. Guess what? Tax Masters won't answer! left messages. Then went on internet and found a site that said Tax Masters files Bankrupt in March 2012. I had to call IRS and set up my own payment plan with penalties, OUCH! I lost total of 25K. No call, E-mail, letter, smoke signal from Tax Masters. I do have to say IRS was very nice, and helped alot. I still have to pay, but did try to be nice.

ATTENTION EVERYONE:TAX MASTERS IS GETTING THEIRS

This is for all those who have been ripped off by Mr Patrick Cox aka TAX MASTERS.. The State of Texas has filed suit against Mr. COX for over $195,000,000... over 100,000 counts of fraud and other charges have been brought against him and TAX MASTERS. Along with the St. of Texas the St of Minn has found Tax Masters guilty by jury of misleading and deceptive business practices and suing them for $500,000 I sincerely hope this brings some relief to those concerned as it has I... Hopefully you'll be hearing more of this in weeks to come....

TAX MASTERS BIGGEST FRAUDS!

Hired Taxmasters 10 months back or so to assist me with an on going tax issue,of finding past years business transactions & costs associated with my biz.All I wanted them to do was do two simple things for me and also be in contact with a compliance agent to let the IRS know I was working on getting the issue resolved by professionals.I had first talked to a CPA and they told me they did not have the resources to do what I needed done....and their advice was "have you tried one of those places off TV?".So I took their advice and called Taxmasters and was very CLEAR on what I needed done.I explained my situation on the phone before hiring them.I paid them $6,500 upfront which was their standard fee they told me. Seven months later they had not done one thing I asked of them and what I had hired them for. They did send me a packet of long forms to fill out lol...I asked them if it was joke. The lady sounded confused....I then told her why I had hired them in the first place...She got very quiet and said let me call y I then verbally asked for a refund and sent in many cease & desist letters ou back.I waited all day and no call back.I knew something was up.I then called and asked for a refund and told them I was lied to and conned in my initial call when I paid the $6,500.They put me on hold and hung up on me.Right after that I started sending them so letters asking for a refund and to cease & desist anything they were doing for me and also revoked power of attorney.Never got 1 reply back them.I then paid an attorney in Texas $250.00 to forward my letter to them via email, and also fax it to them & send certified mail. Finally got a reply...that my account was be under review for a refund and it would take 60 days. Well 60 days has past and never heard a word back. Call after call ect... They claim that they have down sized the company and laid off lots of employees. That they are over whelmed with work and they still didn't have any word on if I was getting anything back or not. I WARN YOU DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH TAXMASTERS. THEY ARE SCAMMERS & CONNS. ALL THESE STORIES YOU READ ABOUT THEM ON THIS BOARD ARE TRUE! I have also started making a list of real employee names (some use fake names) and also where they live ect... We really need to start fighting back against these people...in a more personal way! And let them know what they are doing is wrong!
