PRICE GOUGING and Horrible Management

I would happily review with zero stars if I had the ability to. I rented a storage unit from this location BEFORE Storage Mart took over. The old manager was very kind, very helpful, and even brought my family and I bottled water to drink as we unloaded my belongings from the U-Haul into the unit. My rent for a 10x15 non-climate controlled unit was originally $95 under a special with the previous company. When Storage Mart took over my rent became $190. This month I went to pay early online and noticed my invoice stated $213. My unit size has not changed at all. But dont worry, there was some lovely vandalism in my unit when I first moved my things in that still has not been fixed. I reached out by email twice, stated my preference for email/text due to my busy schedule, and was reached out to by phone anyway. And only ever at the end of the day so I was unable to call back in time. A few days later I somehow finally managed to get ahold of Sean, the regional manager. My phone call with him was useless. The regional manager was condescending and purposefully unhelpful. I asked what upgrades have been made to justify a rent increase since Storage Mart took over, and he refused to provide specifics when I asked multiple times. He also accused me of having late fees on my account, which is incorrect and I was able to prove quickly as I keep detailed records of everyone Ive spoken to with this embarrassment of a company. Sean also made it clear that this is how businesses work as if I am not fully aware of corporate greed. He interrupted me multiple times as I was speaking, and blatantly ignored my questions to speak over me. I do not believe he would have spoken to me in such a way had my father or another man called instead, but Sean can take that up with his preferred religious entity. Storage Mart took over my storage unit just to increase rent. This company is a scam at best, and if this price gouging is not resolved by the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, or Storage Mart themselves then I will be forced to get another U-Haul and move my belongings to a better storage facility. I want to also note that the same type of unit I am currently renting is going for $140 to new customers on the Storage Mart website, but as an existing customer my rent is being increased to $213. Ive included a screenshot from the Storage Mart website as well as my August invoice with personal information blocked out.

I have been waiting for a month to hear from a claims adjuster. No response from anyone. I have gone to my Storage Mart in KCMO and the manager knows nothing. I will cancel my unit and not make any recommendations

Spread of personal information

Hello my name is Frank Ansah I don't own a car but I believe my personal information should not be spread among a parking lot Good evening as a customer at Manhattan mini storage 260 Spring St, New York, NY 10013. I have been victimized, humiliated and embarrassed I came to Manhattan mini storage to store property not to engage in sexual intercourse with staff and customers. My personal information was spread among the storage unit by Manhattan mini storage employees and employees of edson park fast. Every day I am humiliated by customers staff and Random individuals. Racist people call me names. The females were told I was a rapist sex offender by staff. I would seek legal action apon this matter thank you. I AM NOT A RAPIST I AM NOT A SEX OFFENDER

Bait and Switch - Go elsewhere

Company entices new renters with industry competitive rates for units, then continues to increase rates several times throughout the year and blames it on industry practice and costs rising. They do this without advance notice even though it is "month to month". Do not even bother voicing a concern to their manager, this is clearly a bait and switch tactic. Find another storage unit place. I had to find a unit quickly due to a military move, the price was $109. It is now almost double for no apparent reason except rising costs. And I contacted other storage companies and consumers before posting this - this isn't the norm here!! And, StorageMart claims emails are tracked to your inbox and they can verify that they are opened, yet I keep every single one and never received any regarding extra charges they add when they needed my homeowners policy to avoid their overly expensive insurance coverage. I rarely open emails and never delete emails. They have zero regard for customer care or retention. For each one of us who leaves, two will take our place at the intro prices and a "free month". As I learned in college, nothing is free. You will pay for it. Reading other reviews, it's clear this is their business model of how to keep revenue streams in the positive. Now, with increases and other locations being full for available units, many of us are at the mercy of StorageMart's highly suspect and apparently deceptive business practices. Note the people on site are normally pretty good to deal with. It's everyone else. I too had a credit card expiration date updated and I received zero communication about the inability to process the payment. Instead, my unit was locked out. They ran my card multiple times without calling or emailing me. If someone hadn't randomly went to the unit to inspect it, I would have never known. This is absolutely unacceptable for consumers. Many of us do not use our credit cards on a regular basis, a friendly reminder would have sufficed or a phone call?! After all, my account is military and I might be in the middle of a war zone but hey that doesn't matter because it affects the bottom line profits. An email isnt even reliable because your email system is unreliable to deliver 100% of emails to its customers. If you can, find somewhere else to do business. I know I intend to. The regional managers are all about keeping profits and sales up, not about retaining existing customers. It's probably part of their compensation package. I'm glad I googled this today to know I'm not alone and this isn't an isolated situation.

Problem with the storage facility I'm at

My Rv was hit in his parking spot. Theres no camera footage of who did it and what? Also I went by today which is the first to try to look in my RV theres a U-Haul truck parked maybe 6 inches next to it which is going to start causing damage again theres one the driver side of my U-Haul. Theres no parking thats the reason the gentleman gave me this parking spot because I can get my RV in and out easily talk to Travis and he supposedly talk to his boss and neither one of them knows whos this rental truck is so Im calling to try to see if this can be resolved. I am planning on using this RV this weekend and it doesnt look like I can get it out of the parking spot due to the situation .

Double charge and gave my rental unit away after charging me

I was charged twice and they gave away my unit .. My online reservation for this month said my first month is free and my monthly rent is $ 33.99 . I was charge first $47.5 on March 25 including a lock I never given and I was told over the phone they will refund me the lock fee if I have one on the day I made the reservation and online discount confirm my first month April rent is free. Couple day later on April 3rd they charged me again $31.72 and then called me 2 weeks later saying they will give away my unit even though I was charged twice. And I spoke to their head office and local office told them I didnt need to move in till may 1 but I was told they cant hold the unit and will be given away to other people. I got an email that same day on April 22 confirming the unit is no longer reserve for me . So I booked another storage company at a different location. But this week I got email from them stating they will continue to auto charge my card for next month rent again even though they confirmed my unit is no longer reserved in email When I called they told me they still holding the unit for me and will continue to charge me even though they verbally confirmed twice over the phone and also send me email confirmation the cancellation of my reservation! I cannot recommend renting from this storage company again! I wasnt going to dispute the lock fee but this is just not right to keep charging rent when they give away my unit after I paid already the rent twice. I will post this complaint on all social media and take legal action toward this dishonest business practices ! The company was sold recently and they first cancelled the free shuttle service and now they charge for moving in not like before they will give you free move in ( I was a customer for over 10 years and rented multiple location but clearly the new company is not the same, very dishonest and unreasonable!) After I was scammed now I saw many complaint from other customers posted similar bad experience on yelp !

The lights in the hallway in front of my storage have been out every single day except 4 days in 2 months. I can't come during the day so I had to spend a bunch of money for lights, no bathroom

The lights in the hallway have not worked almost the whole two months I have been in this storage I could have been out within 6 weeks had I been able to get in here and see my things and go through them and sort what's going where. They have no public bathroom sometimes people are here for a long time and they have to put everything back in their storage to run up the road to go to the bathroom. I spent over $100 and lights and batteries and now I'm going to have to pay another month's rent because I couldn't finish doing what I wanted to do in my time period because there were no lights I don't think that's fair I don't think I should have to pay that month that's coming up

Billing and changing of contract without notice.

I have had the same storage since 2018 and the wonderful couple who used to work there sold the place to Storage Mart. I have always had my payment automatically withdrawn from my account, so I've never missed a payment. When they took over last year they increased my rent from $165.00 then to $185.00 now its $203.00. They increased the rent without notifying me and per their contract it states that when they make a change, they are to notify you and if you don't want to accept it within 15 days you can move. I asked them to send me the so called updated contract and the kid said he couldn't find it... Then I submit my homeowners Declarations last year again because they placed forced coverage on my account, they did refund me, and I let them know that if they are going to operate a business they need to abide by the rules they put in place and that I signed for. Now I get more forced coverage charged on my account and I sent them the Declarations page again since they charged me for 3 months total of $50.91. I received an email back saying that they could only credit me 1 month since they said they didn't have a copy. This place is a NIGHTMARE they are NOT HONEST and all they want is money. Please DO NOT rent a storage unit. You will find other reviews that discuss they are money hungry and have no intentions of being legal. I will be moving my items elsewhere, and I will make sure this review goes everywhere. When you have a customer who has been faithful in paying with no late fees and a longtime customer, you would think they would appreciate it. DO NOT RENT HERE.. Hope this review get the attention of someone in this company. My unit is located in IDAHO. I can't put the date of my experience because there have been more than one... 9/13/2022 - 11/11/2022 - 4/13/2023. I have all the emails and communication with this company since they bought the facility but they do things how they want TAKE YOUR MONEY.

I was never notified of change of ownership nor price increase for 2 units I have had since 2017. I moved out of one unit April 2nd and was given only a partial refund for the month of april.

I have not able to reach anyone at the facility. There is no one who can print a receipt nor make any decisions. There is only an answering machine at the facility. Manhattan Mini Storage had a 7 day grace period for vacating facility with no penalty. I never was sent any message regarding increase in rates even though it is claimed otherwise by the representative in Missouri. I do not believe this is proper or even legal. My Unit was broken into

My unit was broken into. There were two attempts. The first attempt the a storage staffer called me to say the door ti my unit was partially opened about 18 inches. When I went to investigate I couldn't raise the door higher due to a box larged on the lip of the door. I got help to dislarge it, but on examining the contents nothing was disturbed. The lock was engaged. I changed the lock and secured the door. The second event, a storage staffer called me to say the lever to the door locked was not fully flush and the lock was engaged. Again, I went to investigate. The lever was not fully flush, however the door was still locked. It could be raised and the lock was engaged. However, this time when I opened the door my boxes were all torn opened. I could not figure out what had bee taken due to the disarray. I called the storage staffer who came down and took pictures. My friend restacked the boxes as best as possible. I am disabled and cannot do this work. I called the police to have a report made. I am the third woman on this floor of the Storage Mart to have her unit broken into in the past several months, I found out. The storage company told me that I left my unit unlocked, when I called to complain. The other two women were told the same thing. Apparently, if you are a woman and you rent at Storage Mart on River Road, West New York NJ, and your unit is broken into, it is because you cannot lock a door!!! This was very obviously an inside job. However, Storage Mart refused to acknowledge any fault nor did they offer any help when I said the least they could do is pay for reboxing my belongings and moving me to another unit. I see there is someone else who has had their unit broken into at Storage Mart and complained on this site. Please contact me!!! Me and the other woman are going to sue. We can combine our cases, so that it can clearly be seen that something very scammy is being done here by Storage Mart. A terrible company with poor security and poorer management, and horrible customer service.
