Scanning Project - Very Disappointed

I had been procrastinating for years in digitizing my photos. Finally, since I was downsizing and moving, I've decided to take on this major task since Im the keeper of the family photos. I was so excited since I had over 3000 photos that needed scanning and organizing. I sent in 1400 photos to be scanned, packaging them as instructed. It took a while to receive them back but customer service was good about responding to my inquiries to request the status. I even received offers for discounts by email and being so confident in the service I thought I was receiving, I pre-paid for the next batch of 1000. However, when I received the 1st scanned photos back, I was VERY disappointed. I had professional "sharp and clear" pictures included and they came back grainy with a line going down the middle. This was including my wedding pictures! Apparently, there is not a quality check before sending the pictures back. There was not one picture with a good scanned quality. So, after talking to customer service, I was reluctant to try again but re-sent the same batch of pictures in because they claimed they received a brand-new scanner and it will be quality checked before sending back. I received them back the 2nd time, the professional pictures no longer had a line going down the middle which is good. However, the quality of all the pictures are below average to average at best. My cheap scanners at home do a better quality. Unfortunately, I pre-paid for that 2nd batch of 1000 pics since they were offering a great discount and according to customer service, I cant receive a refund because it is too late and outside of their refund window policy. Lesson learned for me to NEVER do that again. They have great discounts and offers but what is the point of a discount if the quality is subpar.

Terrible experience/ still dealing after 6 months

I am completely disappointed and utterly frustrated. I sent in 19 mini VHS tapes in May of 2017 to be transferred to CD’s and an external drive (it took 2 months). What I received were awful. Most had “video calibration” on them with white noise and couldn’t be watched. I sent them back for a “re-do”. When I received the new CD’s and external drive (after yet another 2 months) the white noise and “video calibration” were gone but the sound kept going out. When the sound WAS on, it wasn’t in sync with with the video. It’s so frustrating to watch someone’s lips moving and their voice is somewhere else. I sent in my Groupon receipt and credit card charge receipt and asked for a refund of those charges. I felt another “re-do” at this point was ridiculous. They sent a reply that they’d look into it. That was over a month ago. So this has been almost SIX months of frustration. I emailed them AGAIN asking what the delay was and received a generic email saying I needed to reopen and reply to the request number. Aaarrggghhh!! I just sent in another email (today Nov. 13, 2017) stating my frustration and asked again for the refund. Who knows what kind of response I’ll get. So I’m resorting to this negative review. I don’t like writing them but I feel this one is deserved. Oh, and I’m never using Groupon again either. I think the value v/s quality simply isn’t worth it.

Scan Digital - Scanning Service Review

I got a call from one of your sales people saying the cost of scanning in my slides would be another 47 dollars . When ordering the only category was photos and I asked your salesman I have slides he said all sides would be covered under photos I agreed and your salesperson processed the order. Now he calls me two weeks later saying these slides would cost another 47 dollars I said that was unethical and not professional to change the rates after agreeing initially of the price. I am very upset and will never do business with u in the future. John hirsch

Resolved: Scan Digital Charge Review from Mount Laurel, New Jersey

I am having an on going problem with Scan Digital. They owe me $175.00. I had 3 groupon orders and due to a system hiccup I ended up using same groupon code twice. So they charged my credit card full cost. They said I would get credit back in 4-5 weeks after processing. That was about 8 weeks ago now. Still waiting... The quality of converting my slides to digital was well done. But trying to get money back is like pulling teeth. I don't think I will give them any more of my business. Next I try the CEO for help.

Scan Digital Video Transfer Service Review from Denver, Colorado

I sent in 12 VCR tapes using a Groupon. I wasn't sure what was on them and didn't have the time to review them (or easy access to a VCR). The Groupon cost was relatively inexpensive, so it made sense to convert them and then review them using the better DVD playback systems. I had to send them in two separate packages because each Groupon was only good for six tapes each (seems they could have figured out how to combine them, but no). After a couple months with no response, I called. Then I finally got the first set back. They sent back all my tapes, charged me for shipping, and said the tapes were all copyright material. The next set took at least another month, but they did transfer them all to DVD. A few weeks later, I was able to review them. Only one of them had a home movie on it. The others were copyrighted material, which, according to them, they weren't supposed to transfer. I kept the home movie and threw the others away because they were recorded movies and tv shows in poor quality. I didn't realize until I got my credit card bill that they charged me an additional $23 each for four of the tapes ($92 total) saying they went over two hours. (I don't think the invoice was in the box, but I threw it away before realizing the additional charge, so I can't prove it.) The home movie was not over two hours, which means they charged me $92 to transfer material they said they weren't allowed to transfer. (Even if they were movies I wanted, that charge was excessive and only disclosed in the fine print of the Groupon - essentially a bait and switch tactic.) Worse, the video quality of the DVDs is poor. I realize they were VCR videos, but these look worse than what I remember of the VCR playback. Also, when you turn on the DVD, the graphics are 80s style. One icon says "play" and it did nothing on half the tapes. I was only able to play the DVD using the other icon entitled "menu." When I called the company to explain all this, I was told I could send the DVDs back and they would look at them and reimburse me if they could verify what I was saying. Problem is, as noted, I threw it all away. The company wouldn't take my word for it (because I would go to the effort of making up this story), so I'm out $92. Bottom line, there are other companies that do this, so DON'T USE SCANDIGITAL!

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

I used a groupon and they make you put in a credit card number for "shipping" but they keep charging you more and more and there is nothing that you can do about it. You cannot remove your card information and they wont refund you. I placed a block on my card and disputed the charges with my card company. This is a scam and the groupon is worthless and you will end up paying the full amount anyway. I tried to call to talk to them first and they state that when you enter your card you authorize them to charge you and you can't remove the card or delete your account from their site even after you are done with them. Every unethical and I would never recommend. I also reported them yo groupon.

RIPOFF

Scan digital does not stand by what they advertise. My order took over 4 months to complete. No one ever answers the phone. I had to contact them via email. My movies came back in horrible condition and they came back to me all together on a huge reel instead of the small individual reels I sent them in. Problem with that is that some are my moms and the other my sisters and brother. So now I am stuck with all of them on a big reel. Also, they didn't fix any of the videos and the dvd they put them on has no sound and looks like something from the 1960s. They also didn't put any of the pictures I sent them on a dvd for me, just sent them back. I contacted them and they refuse to issue me a refund of any kind. They are a rip off and I will tell everyone I know not to use this company. Worst experience ever!

Scan Digital - Photo Digitization Review from Kelowna, British Columbia

Submitted an 800.00 order in early June 2014 and finally received my order in late October 2014. I received CDs of my images and a blank memory stick!! My mac does not have a cd drive. I waited weeks to be able to access my gallery and was told I would be able to access my images for a years. Went to access my images today...may18...and NO images!! Terrible service. My black and white negatives that were scanned were exceptional dusty as if the negatives were not air blown to remove dust. A very disappointing experience!!

Lost irreplaceable family photos

I sent family photos to be digitized, including several 8x10s. It took a very long time and when disk was returned, the 8x10s were not on it and not in the box. And, the scanning was done at an improper exposure so everything on the disk is underexposed. Several calls to the company have not produced any result other than their saying they cannot find the photos. Never deal with this horrible company. They pretend to give good customer service and send little notes with the order but they cannot keep track of what they are doing. I am heartsick about this.

ScanDigital lost my precious films!

Don’t send your memories to ScanDigital - they lost all of my films! I am absolutely heartbroken. Through unbelievable months of ignoring my calls, employee and facility changes, and a flawed tracking system, the end result is that 30-year old precious movies including my son’s first baby steps and Christmas are ALL GONE! IF YOU SENT MOVIES TO SCANDIGITAL in the last half of 2012, PLEASE CHECK YOUR ORDER TO MAKE SURE MY MOVIES WEREN’T ALSO SENT TO YOU - and if you have movies of a baby that you don’t recognize, PLEASE contact Matt Stone at ScanDigital! If you received film containers you don’t recognize, my film containers are the small Super 8 plastic canisters that are bright blue and white. They had stick-on embossed labels from a label maker from the 1970’s. The drive I sent with my order was a small LaCie drive in a black plastic surround. I had contacted ScanDigital before ever sending them anything to ask if my films would ever leave their facility in California. I was assured all processing was done on site. That was not true! After receipt in the Torrance facility, they shipped my films to Ashland, Missouri. That was in August 2012. I not only sent them my films, but also a portable LaCie drive, as well as a letter listing and describing everything I was sending. When my order #87686 didn’t progress on the website “tracking system,” I started calling and emailing. I was blown off a number of times, promised return calls that never came, and received “pat on the head” emails, until December 2012 when I finally was put in touch with Matt Stone, ScanDigital co-founder and COO. It took more months to finally learn that the ScanDigital “Essential Tracker System” showed my films and drive were put in a box with other people’s films in California and shipped to Missouri, but were never received there. In a sealed box - Matt told me the other orders in the box were apparently received, but my order was missing. NO red flags went up, NO computer alarms went off, NOBODY noticed an order was sent but not received. Despite my numerous calls and emails, NOBODY went searching for my memories! One of the first things Matt said was that he hoped somebody didn’t do the unthinkable and trash my films. WHAT? Finally Matt said he notified employees, searched the facilities, and contacted other customers who might have received my movies or my drive in their orders. Had they started searching when my films first went missing, they may have found them - but by the time they started looking, we were months into it, and the original employee who scanned in my order didn’t even work for the company any more. How could this possibly happen in a system that is supposedly so bullet-proof? I was told every item should have a barcode, and yet they “said” they were contacting customers trying to find my films and drive. And the final outcome? ACCORDING TO THEIR “FOOLPROOF” TRACKING SYSTEM, MY FILMS AND LACIE DRIVE DISAPPEARED FROM A SEALED BOX SOMEWHERE BETWEEN CALIFORNIA AND MISSOURI, AND NOBODY NOTICED. It is now more than one year later. I have not heard from anyone at SacnDigital for months. To date I have NEVER been offered my money back for $80 Groupon I included with my order, or compensation for my $125 drive which was lost with my films! The website says “Hundreds of orders shipped daily without a single loss” - well that’s simply not true! I have learned a truly heartbreaking lesson.

MISINFORMATION FROM SCAN DIGITAL - BUYER BEWARE

The copy of the email I just sent scan digital explains why a buyer should beware: EMAIL TO SCAN DIGITAL: I just talked with your service rep', Danny, who told me that if I ordered the less-expensive DVD made from my film and wanted to rip them to my computer, I would be deleting the files from the DVD and it would be ruined. As I pointed out to him in a second phone call, this is UNTRUE. When I talked to him again regarding this issue, he said he was mistaken but was "told" this by a former employee. This is what sort of people you hire to represent your company, people who are inept when it comes to the business they represent ... or is it people who are hired to mislead the public? Shame on you! After my interactions with Danny, I understandably was suspicious, so I decided to check reviews on your company. From the myriad of negative reviews I've read, I suspect the misinformation given me by Danny was more likely to be due to the latter reason given above and that your company is adept at misleading and preying upon the public. I will assuredly pass on my experience and the following link to the experiences of others to the many people with whom I come in contact in order to help them make a more informed decision regarding your business practices. Maybe YOU should read your reviews so you become better informed as to what your company is doing and how people feel about it. The bottom line: Shame on you! And YOU say? HUGE BILL-NO ESTIMATE GIVEN

Garbage. Absolute garbage. You will pay more than you expect. You will pay A LOT more than you expect. Bought the $300 worth of Groupon. I sent in 188 negatives and 412 pictures. THEY DO NOT TELL YOU THE COST BEFORE PROCESSING!!!!!!!!!!! Would you get work done on your car without an estimate only to be told that it was going to be over $1000 and that they will not give you back your property until you pay? Well that's what you can expect if you deal with these scammers. I had a roll of negatives from my wedding along with 8 X 10 originals. It would have cost $0.68 per picture for the 8 X 10s and I saw that the price for negatives was $0.78 per picture. The resolution was going to be much higher so I figured it would be worth the extra $12. I get an email stating that there was a problem with my payment. I figure the credit card info is wrong. Nope. Thankfully, my bank didn't authorize them to charge over $1000! The actually, without any prior notice whatsoever, charged $4.98 per negative!!! They claim they've never had this problem before (reading the Yelp comments now, I see that's a lie). They will not cancel the order, they will not discount the rate. Their only answer is to allow me to pay the huge bill over time! I expected that my processing fee would be just over the $300 groupon and that I would only have to pay for shipping and a little extra. That's the other thing! They are charging $42 for shipping!!!!!!!!! UPS charges $12! So, I figure, I'm being ripped off for over $800! IMPORTANT: THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU BACK YOUR ORIGINAL MATERIAL! They are holding MY stuff ransom!

RIP OFF

CHARGE HUGE SUMS OF MONEY WITH NO ESTIMATE. AN ORDER THAN WAS SUPPOSED TO BE AROUND $300 WAS INSTEAD $1300. A TOTAL SURPRISE! THEN, THE HOLD YOUR FAMILY PHOTOS FOR RANSOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNBELIEVEABLE. DO NOT TRUST THEM. THE ARE LIARS! No one should ever use their services. They give no estimates. They give no pricing information. They assume you are more of an expert at the material then they are. They refuse to cancel an order. They will not send back your valuable materials. They should be ashamed of themselves. Never ever trust them with your stuff. In fact, send them a bunch of things you don't care about, then cancel (don't pay) just to stick it to them!

Scan Digital, Slow, Expensive, and Poor Quality

Two plus months ago I sent 400 feet of 8mm film to Scan Digital to be reproduced into a digital DVD disk. After repeated calling, two months later I finally received my single DVD disk. I was sure the prepaid $90.00 I sent would be more than enough to cover the cost. I was wrong. The total bill was $130.00. For that I got one disk, Poorly done and I have never had to wait so long to receive something in my life. I decided to send the next roll to Costco. That was about 300 feet of film. I got it back in less than two weeks. Total cost was less than $20.00 and you get two a second copy. I guess you know where I'm taking the rest of my film. And did I mention from Costco I had none of the quality problems I had with Scan Digital.
