Unhealthy conditions and basic needs not met

Room to run Let me start with what was promised 3 months ago when I took my gelding there. I started out full board, I was told he would be fed, watered, stall cleaned and turned out every day. In the stall the hay nets would be bursting with hay. That is the farthest thing from the truth and I found out very quickly. I would show up and my stall would be very dirty, my horse had no water. Some days he would get turned out, others he would be left inside. It was actually a guessing game I played with my family towards the end of our very short few months. I would look Steve in the eye and tell him important things, even writing them in text. Only to find out later it didnt get done. Some of these things were very important. I was often told by others he had a very short memory due to health concerns. Im sorry but if thats the case its evident hes not capable of running any barn. Horses arent cats or dogs, they are actually quite fragile and get hurt and ill easily. The very next month I decided I would step up and do partial board. Meaning I was there two to three times a day taking care of my horses. This is when I became fully aware of what was going on at this place. Horses werent getting fed and left outside for days on end. The ones left inside only got hay and water mostly if other paying boarders actually did it. I have video proof and several pictures of horses and donkeys left with no water or bucket in sight. Because of the lack of routine care here, this barn isnt for most horses if any really. Another full boarders horse nearly starved to death here as myself and another boarder stepped up to be sure he was fed and brought inside. Thankfully the horse is safe and gaining weight beautifully a month later. He had passed all dental and veterinary exams, and there was no medical reason for the weight loss. This unfortunately wasnt the first and sadly wont be the last. Theres an Arabian gelding there whos sadly headed that direction. There is pictures of proof of all horses mentioned. The sawdust that your allowed to have isnt much and is often full of fertilizer and trash. If you take more than a full wheel barrow out and hes in the mood where he doesnt wanna dump the spreader, youll get asked where it all came from. I own 2 horses and would take 3/4 a wheelbarrow out a day. The turnout routine is dangerous and luckily my boys were never injured. All stall doors are open and everyone is expected to run outside on concrete down the aisle. My horse was cornered one day and just missed be kicked. I have more evidence from previous boarders of injuries upon injuries from the unsafe practices. The arenas are never drug and there are weeds and very large rocks everywhere. The hay is the lowest quality Ive ever seen fed to horses. You could compare it to cattle hay. Most wont survive on it alone. Theres a lot of dust and mold and apparently its locked up in the winter with chain link fencing. I myself didnt make it that far. The flies are horrendous I have seriously never seen so many in my life. The entire barn smells like ammonia from the poorly cleaned stalls, lack of sawdust and zero ventilation. I wouldnt let my boys stay here and I should have payed attention to the reviews and stayed clear. Every single one of them are true. If confronted about them as I did with Steve, he will tell you they are all lies. He said it was a young disgruntled boarder and her friends. Believe everything you read and find. Ive found out more than I know what to do with about that place. As far as credibility, I know how to keep horses, and have a degree in veterinary technology as an RVT. Steve is the most unqualified person I have ever seen run a barn. He isnt educated on the most basic of horse care. His horses never see a vet or a farrier. He doesnt believe in coggins and doesnt understand that horses have basic needs that cant be just fixed with low quality pasture grass. Hes extremely paranoid and often says spiteful things about others. Stay clear and thank me later.

Previous Boarder

Room to run stables is not a good place to board for an active horse owner. The barn manager is deceitful and does not properly care for active horses with special needs. He does not have any shame in asking someone to leave on short notice with no real explanation or logical reasoning. You only get certain amount of hay, grain is restricted, and water buckets are never cleaned. The land is nice and on sight trails is tempting but it is not worth the headache and criticism received from "barn staff". Managers are spiteful and will talk about you with other boarders. This barn is very catty and it isn't the boarders, it's staff. The horses are brought in a very disorganized manner and the staff doesn't handle horses who have been abused or are sensitive well, and can often make them worse. I was at room to run for 2 years and by the end of my stay I felt defeated when near or around barn staff. This place was not homey or inviting at all like it was portrayed to be when we initially visited. We have witnessed staff skip feeding horses and round bales are only put out when its convenient for the staff not when horses are out of hay in dead of winter. This barn is by far the worst place for a horse and their owner. You will not be sad you skipped this place do not let them fool you as they have so many people.

Worst Experience Ever

Updated by user Feb 23, 2021
It has now been a month since posting this review. Room To Run never gave me an explanation for how I was “rude to barn staff” even after I asked.

Probably because I was never actually rude they just wanted me gone for some unknown reason. If you know me, you know I am...

Original review Jan 24, 2021
If your horse can survive with minimal hay, grain, dirty water (or no water), standing in its own urine and *** for days at a time, getting stuck in the acres of deep mud and rocks and requires no special care->;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Room to Run is the perfect place for you!!! If your horse requires any form of extra or special treatment (including a clean stall with bedding, clean water buckets, full water buckets, supplements, medicines, consistent feeding) then consider this your warning to NEVER board at Room to Run. Their slogan is where dreams come true but its more a nightmare. Dont let the acreage and trails tempt you....it is not worth it. If youre asking yourself is it really that bad? YES, IT IS I have witnessed barn staff scold boarders for using too much saw dust, even going so far as to deliberately lock up the saw dust in an attempt to prevent partial care borders from using it. I have witnessed barn staff skip feeding horses grain and supplements or feeding less than what was promised. Every horse there no matter their weight, body condition, breed or height gets the exact same amount of hay...which is two flakes to last from 5pm-9am. Boarders have had to purchase their OWN hay because taking extra from the barn is equivalent to committing a federal crime. The owner literally puts a dog gate/lock around the hay with warning signs that video cameras are in use. Unless you are partial care and clean your own water buckets...yours will NEVER be cleaned. I have felt so bad for horses there before that I took their buckets, dumped the disgusting black water out that smelled like rotten eggs and scrubbed the black Tar coating out of the bucket myself. De-worming? Thats not a thing at Room to Run because the owner found out it actually costs money (shocking) to de worm a horse and get a fecal egg count. Prepare yourself for empty promises, countless excuses, petty messages on the white board, rude side comments, criticism, judgments and ZERO COMMUNICATION from the barn ownersThe Uppermans. Indoor arena is advertised but should be relabeled as dusty dirt pit as its never been drug....ever. Outdoor arena is also advertised but should be relabeled to *** field because he actually dumps the manure in the outdoor arena claiming its mostly sawdust. When in reality he is just too freaking lazy and cheap to spread it somewhere else or have it truck loaded out. If you notice empty water troughs outside, dont worry because Steve says there are plenty of muddy puddles to drink from. NO, I am NOT JOKING, he actually said that and was 100% not joking. Round bales in the winter? They put out THREE round bales for the thirty horses...but only when its convenient for him. If hes too tired or not in the mood or thinks they ate the other ones too quickly then forget it. Now, lets talk about the infamous horse camp real quick. Let me be the first to tell you that the horses Steve uses for this camp are only touched, brushed, worked or even RODE until the DAY BEFORE OF CAMP. Meaning, he puts 6 year old kids who have never ridden before on these horses. Sound safe? No. Its not. Owners have actually scolded boarders before for grooming his own personal horses... which I would sympathize with if his horses didnt look disgusting with knots, sticks, dried mud and burrs in their manes. The most attention his horses get are from the other boarders petting them in the field. If none of what I have said has deterred you from boarding here then consider the fact that he has not required any boarder to sign a contract in the last two years. Contracts protect himself and the boarder. There are so many lawsuits waiting to happen .... youve been warned!! RUN AWAY FROM ROOM TO RUN!!!

Boarder

This facility is not for people who are horse savvy. These owners play favorites and do not help educate new boarders to the ways of horses. This place is not somewhere to take a hard keeper. Grain meals are skipped when it's inconvenient for the staff, and only two flakes of hay allotted per horse (no matter the size, age, or nutrient requirements). Water buckets are never cleaned, and you can only use so much sawdust before you scolded like a child. You are talked down to even though you are paying for a service and sometimes just ignored completely.

Room To Run Stables Horse Boarding Facility Review from Reynoldsburg, Ohio

I have boarded my first horse at Room To Run for over a year now and a second horse almost 7 months now. I can say that every story has two sides and I would recommend to anyone considering RTR to make it a point to speak to the management. The Uppermans take great care of the horses and know what they're doing. Both of my horses get supplements and I have NEVER had a problem with my horses not getting theirs or getting the wrong supplements. The hay has always been top quality and my horses have never gone hungry. The pastures and trails are awesome and my horses love it at RTR. Since I have boarded there, the staff has ALWAYS been the same. The facility is not state-of the-art-able-to-eat-of-the-floor facility but it doesnt have to be. The arenas get drug adequately and watered down and if an arena is too dusty, boarders are welcome to use the hose real quick and water it down - NO BIG DEAL! As far as injuries go, it is an equine facility and, just like anywhere else, injuries will happen. It is not the fault of management. Horses are horses and when they squabble or fight, they will injure each other. Any horse owner knows it. The feed contractor has always been a local feedstore as long as I have been there and I have never heard complaints. The other boarders are super friendly. This barn is VERY family oriented and I love it there. I would recommend this barn to anyone!

They don't pay their bills

I've been the feed vendor for a while but simply stopped. They are unable to pay their bills. I understand a tough economy, and I "Get" being a couple of days behind and being asked to hold a check or wait, but they are constantly behind, sometimes 5 or 6 weeks. I'd have more sympathy but the owner stiffs me 5 or 7 times a year for a couple of thousand and then tells me what a great time he had in Vegas with his dad. Huh???? I've waited for an hour while they "Pretended to look for the 'lost' check" and watched them crash a tractor and then say "Oh well, glad it's not mine!". I sure hope that John Deere figures it out. They wont be in business much longer at this rate, and definitely won't have my feed services. I quit services in February.

Wonderful horse farm with great management/owners

This is our third year at the barn taking lessons. We have been at the barn almost every week and now own and board a horse there ourselves. We have NEVER witnessed any neglect or abuse toward the animals. In fact, the horses have wonderful lives there. We have been involved in caring for the horses and have only always seen the same staff taking care of the horses. The boarders there are wonderful and the owners are great too with a true concern and interest in everybody's well being. We would recommend this barn to anybody looking for boarding.

Awesome Facilities with Amazing People

As a current boarder I would like to acknowledge the fact that the owners and workers at the barn are beyond qualified and truly care for the horses as well as the people. This is the best barn I have been to by far, and I have been more than happy with the care of my horses AS WELL AS my finances. I do not perceive the owners as money hungry or lazy at all, in fact they often go above and beyond in order to make this facility a safe and fun filled place to be. They are constantly spending hours upon hours at the barn in order to take care of the animals and make the property safe and clean. I personally have noticed a positive change in my horses since they have been in the enormous pastures with a small herd. There is often events held at the stables such as cookouts, hay rides, trail rides, and coat drives. All of these are in order to build relationships around the barn and to help out the community. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone. It is hands down the best place I've been. Sincerely, Very happy boarder

Review

Previously posted complaints are NOT completely false. Would not recommend this facility. Very run down barn and equipment, property not being used or managed to its full potential. Current management (Uppermans) are money hungry, lazy, absent minded, distracted, and forgetful. Dusty, moldy, minimal (2 flakes promised, 1 if lucky) amounts of hay are given. Although the acreage offered is appealing please be advised that the property is not maintained and the fencing is inadequate. Arena is rarely drug or watered which causes high dust amounts that fill the barn, especially during turn out and as the horses are brought in. Current management has no idea how to run an equine facility and tend to take the cheapest route. Horse care does not come first. If you have a horse that requires supplements or special requirements (blankets/ fly masks) they will not be put on every single day. Stalls are not properly cleaned and bedding is used sparingly. Owners give a false persona that only lasts until the 'new boarder" phase wears off. Within the last 5 years there has been two equine deaths and multiple serious injuries on the property while under their supervision. If you are looking for DRAMA FREE this is not a place for you. Constant come and go flow of borders... No long term boarders (except the ones who rarely come), Hired staff is whomever they can find to cover shifts which leads to many accounts of miscommunication and mistakes. The list goes on. Please take this as a first hand WARNING. Many reviews you will find else where are written by management and their family. They are not honest. Sincerely Former Boarder

Lazy, Money hungry barn owners.

The barn owners at Room to Run always take the easiest, shortest, laziest way around things. Are in the business for the money, horses mean nothing. They will kiss up to you when you first move in, but be ready for 6 months into it, you'll be treated like you're not important and just another dollar earner for them. They cannot financially afford to successfully run the barn. More than one horse death has happened on the premises. Many horse injuries on the premises. Will not follow your instructions with your own horse. Have supplements for your horse? Hope they aren't too important. Horse need a fly mask due to medical reasons or to prevent irritation? Hope it's not too severe, because your horse isn't going to get it put on for turnout. Fence separating mares and geldings consists of very very thin, dangerous wire that slices eye lids of horses. Multiple times horses have had wire wrapped around their legs and tails and the owners have done absolutely nothing about it. Boarders end up fixing the fence. Wanting full board services?? Don't expect your stall to be upkept nicely. Over all a very unkept, unsafe barn that I wouldn't suggest to my worst enemy. Barn owners are full of petty drama. Always up your butt about everything. Not a nice place to be.

Room To Run Stables - False Accusation Review

These are 100% false accusations. This is a person who lives by the farm that has a personal vendetta against us because she wanted the boarding business that we have. The time that she talks about having her horse there was during a time that we did not even own the business. We can prove that the police have never been called due to neglect and there is no suspicion of drug abuse. To my knowledge no car has ever been torched on the property however there is a car in a pond that was there years before we ever took over the business. Our instructor is over 18 and has had years of lessons. This person is trying to hurt our business with lies. We can prove she is lying with these allegations. Please consider taking her review off of your site. Thank you, Denise Upperman Owner of Room To Run Stables LLC

Terrible experaince

Witnessed them chasing the horses with a truck. When I previously boarded their they did not feed my horse her supplements and didn't water on a regular basis. The also don't introduce horses properly into the turnout herd. My guy was severely beaten up because of this luckily I showed up and pulled him out before it was worse. Returned late from a horse show and there were more people their at mid-nite than there is during the day. The police have been called by neighbors for various situations after hours at the facility property. Such as torched cars and cars being submerged in a lake.

Kicked out from Room to Run Horse Stables, LLC

Our horse was seriously injured due to neglegence on the farm at Room to Run Stables. She's still recovering and it's been almost 4 months now. The farm told us they would cover the expenses of her medical bills on multiple occassions. A fundraiser was done but found to be unsuccessful at covering the full expenses. Upon asking for more financial assistance we were asked to leave the premises in 30 days and told they never intended on covering the medical expenses in the first place. Many injuries at this farm to multiple horses and owners are not honest people. I would not recommend boarding under their care. No measures were put in place to prevent future injuries.
