Richmond/ Menards Does Not Honor Warranty

Was held hostage for hot water. After 8 days without hot water was forced to accept a 40 Gal water heater as a replacement for a leaking 50 Gal. A smaller water heater and loss in value of $316. Richmond does not honor the written warranty. Basically says Menards can do whatever they want. Written warranty states Richmond will provide a replacement water heater to the retailer for customer exchange. The customers only responsibility is to deliver the defective unit to the retailer and pick up the new replacement. Menards said I would have to purchase the replacement on a special order and wait 3-1/2+ weeks for delivery. Request for expedited shipment were ignored by both Richmond and Menards. Emails from Richmond often did not agree with written warranty.

Rust after 2 months of use

Rust after 2 months of install. Now 22 months and I read reviews of many other people with different problems. Gives good hot water but always rust on the initial turn on. Do not buy this

After 3 months, rust comes out of water heater

Richmond 40 gallon electric water heater bought from Aubuchon in Easthampton Mass. Spent $3500 on water filtration system but rust still come out on initial surge. Flushed out water heater three times and rust still come out. But unit always put out good amount of hot water w rust. Defective unit internally. Since 1971 I bought 7 Reliant water heaters for this home. Each one lasted about 7 years. Local hardware store went out of business so I had to find a water heater and Aubuchon had a 40 gallon unit on the floor so I bought it. Rust problems began after two months

Warranty issues

Good morning - I am writing to you this morning asking for compensation. I just had my water heater replaced once again this morning. Q16184**** / 549****. This faulty water heater was originally installed 5-14-18 and I paid labor for it. It was a replacment that was authorized by Richmond for the one before it. Based on the manufacturer's suggested service life, the life expectancy of a water heater is about eight to 12 years. None of my replacement units ever reached its suggested warranty! I now have had to turn around and pay a plumber $665.92 this morning for the installation of a product once again that is faulty. Had this heater reached its full potential warranty, I would have no issues. The problem I have is I have had to have my water heater replaced 4 times in the last 20 years - all richmond water heaters and all under 5 yrs ! I was told this morning by a very rude customer service agent that labor would not be reimbursed. Why is it you will cover labor for up to 2 years but your product is suppose to be gauranteed for 6yr tank and 6yr parts? I find this practice very unfair, and unjustified! I have a very strong social media following, and I will have no problems talking about this and making sure all of my 1500 plus followers make sure to share . I am sure you do not want all that publicity and loss business sales . Please reconsider I can provide you with the paid invoice from this morning if you need it along with the company who installed.

Poor quality water heater

I bought a Rheem after the water heater I had in my home played out. But, my old heater, had lasted easily 15 years and so I wasn't too upset about having to replace it. What upset me was purchasing the Rheem from Home Depot and having nothing but one problem after the other. I literally had someone working on it all the time. After a couple of years, no warranty, I'd had my fill of it and told my husband to please just get rid of it. He did. Ended up with a Defender. Had it for 3-4 years now and not a single problem. My dtr just recently purchased a Richmond. I had already warned her about the Rheem and not to get one from the Home Depot and so she purchased a Richmond. Why am I not surprised to find out they're one and the same. She's having the same problems. 6 months after purchasing the Richmond she had to replace the coupling. And not a year later have to replace it again. I am considering helping her purchase one like the one I have and taking the Richmond to the dump. Unless you have extra money to throw away. Don't purchase anything made by Rheem, Richmond or any other name they put on their products. It'll be a waste of your hard earned money. Just JUNK!!

Pissed off bought new water heater doa menards hot water heater

I bought a 40 gal nat gas water heater brand new from menards. Installed the water heater and the thing won't light. i checked the gas, yes it's turned on!. best guess is the gas line itself that goes into gas control unit, to the pilot light is bad, i was told they will send a part & replace the bad assembly under warranty. My complaint is that when i call the number for support on the hot water heater ,the support line says these were remanufactured. I bought this product as new

Stopped working after only 11 months

Poor quality heater and equally bad customer service from the "water heaters R us" company. After we called and the fellow who installed came out, he told us that it was no longer under warranty, even though we only used it for 11 months. He diagnosed it as a water coupling problem; promised to return and fix. However, he never returned and stopped taking our calls.

Buyers Beware of Richmond or Rheem waterheaters

Bought a Richmond at Menards in 2021, valve went out beginning of Jan 2023, Just made in under the warranty, called my plumber and he went to get part at Menards, they did not carry...WTH...had to order and wait three days without hot water...In the middle of winter, OMG...so got valve for free, but had to pay plumber to put in new valve...I don't think I should have to pay for plumber...Still was under warranty, WTH...Buyer Beware, don't buy Richmond or Rheem...junk...don't back their products, and then I found out there was a recall...I was never contacted like many others...WHY???...

I purchased a Richmond $1600+ hybrid heat pump water heater from Menards

I purchased and installed a Richmond hybrid water heater ($1600+ from Menards), a month later it started giving an error code for top heating element relay not closing and it shut down repeatedly. I returned it and installed a new one, it failed with same error code after 6~8 months. Richmond sent a contractor to install a third unit, it just failed after about 8 months with same problem code! They have been great at honoring the warranty but why not fix the flaw in the product??? This is their flagship model!

No hot water, not getting hot enough to send power to lower thermostat or element

Wired in and turned on, top element has power, water gets barely warm, never sends power to bottom element. Ohm the elements with wires off and checked good, removed element and verified drop tube is in place . Put all back together and still same issue. What is going on. Ohm the thermostats and all are as should be.WTF

I'm on my 3rd Richmond water heater from Menards in 2 years.

I'm a widow on a fixed income , although they were replaced free of charge, I paid for 3 installations for the same appliance. So yeah I'm pissed! I'm tired of paying for useless crap in this country from hard earned money and having to settle. It use to be in this country if it said Made in America it said it and stood behind it with pride and you knew it would last!

Failed gas control valve, pilot light won't remain lit. Known issue they do a poor job of addressing

I bought my water heater from Menards in June 2021. Luckily it is still under warranty but they can't guarantee to get it fixed the next day. It went out last night after their customer services hours so that puts me at 3 days in the middle of winter without hot water. I do not understand if this is a known issue (pilot light won't stay lit) and it's a bad gas control valve why they don't have their contracted service technicians available to with parts on hand. I live in a large city. They said I could shop around and buy it myself and get reimbursed which could take 4 to 8 weeks!. Then I could pay up to $175 I would be reimbursed for a serviceman to repair. The first plumber I called minimum 1 hour charge was $189. I didn't trust them enough to risk not getting reimbursed. Ruud, Rheem and Richmond are all the same company and would avoid them at all costs. To avoid the time, cost and hassle of repairs you're better off spending more upfront. Unfortunately I tried to save money. You can look all over the internet and there is a plethora of accounts of the pilot light not staying lit due to a faulty gas control valve. Their customer service wouldn't even check to see if they could find a technician with the part. They only read their script and wouldn't help with anything. Most likely that is the directive from the higher ups. I would recommend everyone contact their Attorney General and report the problems.
