Terrible experience with Orbitz

Traveled to Las Vegas using Orbitz to booked my trip they totally screwed up my hotel reservation took me 5 hours to get it fixed and checked in to my hotel room, screwed up the car I had reserved to pick me up at the airport so I had no ride, so my trip that was suppose to be to unwind was rather stressful

Misleading advertising

Goods advertised as in stock were not in stock, the website is intentionally misleading just to get you to pay upfront, they spend a lot on marketing to do this.

Resolved: Rude & Unprofessional

Issue resolved. We spoke and made amends..

Since having this encounter i googled a little more before posting this to see if this was a one off / bad day (it was a Sunday after all, perhaps he'd had a stressful week) but judging by the negative reviews on Trustpilot, and more so, his responses to, seemingly,...

You can decide for yourself if this is the sort of store you want to deal with. Here was my inquiry, using the online chat feature, when I wanted some further information about a couple of cool looking affordable pedals they were offering. I can only post 10 screenshots here but the whole conversation can be found here. https://flic.kr/s/aHsmT1rHmA

Bad experience

Ordered an Eastman guitar, wanted picture from website but told it was rare example! Fair enough, got photo of available guitar and sent payment. 4 weeks later while wondering why my guitar hadnt been delivered was told I should have been aware of some floor issue for his technician that checks and sets up guitar! Told him I wasn't interested in this service, got hostile reply about how much this costs him, how Eastman come badly finished and that they have only one luthier in factory! Waited again and finally got guitar, some faults but bridge was as low as it could go and still high on the neck! Spent 2 weeks asking about the problem, he even had video explaining how bridge should be returned when like this! Joined a forum to ask for advice and crazy happened! Knew from previous customers (use that term loosely) that if there is a problem you will end up the target of a youtube rant, poor Richard! So got contacted by Eastman and dealt with them. As soon as guitar was lifted youtube video appeared claiming I was having a mental breakdown! Eastman EU ceo gave his word video would be removed and I would get guitar that would make up for all the trouble! No response from Eastman since, would be ashamed to have reseller act the way this company did! Pity Eastman charge usa prices for 1 luthier in China!

Merci Richard

Damaged goods

After waiting over two weeks for my guitar to arrive due to a questionable so called set and inspection process. It came with four small *** only visible in the right light but definitely damaged. instrument cost £1700. Never had this from a 'normal' retailer with next day delivery. Will not use Richards again or recommend. Don't see any point in complaining if they are prepared to sell substandard goods as new in the first place. Which makes their whole so called quality control system very questionable indeed. Feel scammed. But hey, you live and learn.

Just for the record.

Please be aware (if not blatantly obvious) that most of the trite replies listed as ‘anonymous’ is more than probably Richard himself. Rather that being big enough to state that in his smart *** replies he apparently prefers to snipe at people who have had some genuinely poor experiences with him.

No response

I sent an email enquiring about a Dangelico guitar as this firm state on their web site that they supply those instruments. I did not get a reply and as far as I am aware they are not Dangelico main dealers either. Anyway all turned out for the best another company responded within hours and sold me the guitar I was looking for. A polite response from Richards guitars would have been nice even if their website is misleading.

Guitar Hero

I think Richard is wonderful. He smells good and always cleans his teeth before work. Dental hygiene is imperative in my opinion. {{Redacted}}

Purchased a guitar that didn’t exist!

I spent many months researching non Gibson les Paul type guitars and watched countless videos and read review after review. I finally settled on a Cort CR custom and found one on the website of ‘Richards Guitars’. I ordered it onkline and got an email straight away saying that my order was being processed. I was very happy. However my order status wasn’t upgraded over the next two webs and one day I received an email to say that the guitar I had ordered was discontinued. So, in other words the shop advertises guitars that it doesn’t have and/or can’t get. I was gutted. To add insult to injury, Richard uploaded a Facebook post which showed a map of the uk and a flag for each of his ‘happy customers’ and I was shown on the map. Not happy! I’d love to support smaller independents but this experience put me off.

The best place to buy a guitar

10/10 Having decided on which guitar I wanted to buy I contacted the nearest retailer, which was one hour drive from me. This was due to it not being a 'run of the mill' mass produced or well known brand name guitar. I was told that I needed to place my order and leave a non refundable deposit. At that point I didn't feel as though I was being treated as a valued customer but just another customer so I decided to have a look online and see if I could purchased the guitar I wanted from an alternative retailer. I found Richards Guitars to be the next closest to me, two and a half hours drive from me. I placed my order with Richards Guitars online at approximately 10.30pm on Tuesday 20th March after a live chat with Richard himself just 5 minutes earlier. I mentioned that i had a long drive to his shop. At that point he said 'let me tell you what I can do' I was informed that the guitar I wanted was in stock (the only one) and that he would ensure that it would be set up (at no extra cost to myself) and ready for collection the following day. I drove to the shop on Wednesday and the guitar was ready for me to collect as promised. Richard took the time to chat online with me after the sale to ask if I was happy with the guitar. I have purchased many guitars over the years and this was the best experience I have had, not only with buying guitars I might add. In 2015 i purchased a new car costing £37000, my wife and went to collect the car and were told that the car is on the pavement outside for us to see before driving it away. I was expecting the car to be under a silk cover waiting to be exposed to us as we entered the showroom, no nothing like it, and no follow up call to ask if everything was ok. The cost of my guitar was nowhere near the cost of the car, but I received a much more pleasurable and friendly experience from Richard. I hardly ever bother leaving reviews but this time I was so happy with the way that I was dealt with as a customer that I wanted to tell other potential buyers that Richard is the one person you should buy a guitar from. He is experienced and passionate, which can only be a good thing in helping you make the right choice when parting with your hard earned cash. I would recommend watching his youtube videos to see for yourself. I will definitely only ever buy from Richard in the future, two and a half hours or more, it would definitely be worth it.

This guy is bonkers

looked at a guitar on his web site thought about and, Decided not to buy it .A while later I change my mind sent an enquiry and this I just one of his rude replies I got when asking questions about the guitar.. this is off Richard....... And you my friend are a total time wasting idiot. I offer you a guitar for £200 - you leave it for 2 months, then come back to me without any clear explanation to the conversation. I spend my own time investigating how the offer was made because you are too lazy to look into your own emails - I find the product with a view to helping you further (to your benefit - not mine - I couldnt give a damn about the guitar) - and when I find it and offer it you for £200 you start questioning what model it is (despite ordering the guitar yourself) and then ask for PHOTOS!!! I think you will find your lack of ability to form sentences or converse sensibly shows where the ignorance lies. Best Regards Richard

Excellent experience

I collected my new Furch G24 2016 LTD yesterday from Richard. The setup on the guitar is fabulous, nice and low so very easy to play and not a buzz to be found. The tone produced is amazing, especially for a new guitar. Comparing it to my Takamine ENV-460, it’s smoother, deeper and even more defined so to say I am delighted is an understatement! Service from Richard was beyond reproach. Always available to give me advice and help me chose the right purchase, when I went into the shop to select the guitar he got the balance of advising and supporting rather than pushing just right. Summary, I am a delighted returning customer who can’t speak highly enough about Richard’s Guitars.

Does he actually have any guitars in stock?

Ordered a guitar from him over six weeks ago. Now I’m not talking a high quality guitar but an off the shelf one that I could have picked up from a shop forty minutes from where I live. Thought a set up would be nice so ordered from him. I could have cut the tree down and made the *** thing myself in the time I have waited. He simply advertises guitars he simply does not have, with no intention of letting a potential customer know he will have to wait months at a time. Just gets the money and screws you. Can’t even be *** to keep you updated. Luckily I paid by credit card so will be chasing them up for a refund.

Disappointed

Buyer beware ! I don't like bieng messed around and don't suffer fools gladly ... However when your a working musician and your waiting since Feb 2017 ( it's now July 2017 ) it's taking the ***. I initially enquired about G&L placed an order and then was told there's a problem getting them due to supplier etc . No problem so I waited - a long time but no problem In the meantime I was interested in the Godin stuff so I enquired again and spoke to Richard on the phone and asked can you get one in ? ... He said yes and gave me a time frame for it to arrive and he'd let me know when it was in-stock . Bear in mind by this point I'd changed my order to Godin as the G&L just wasn't possible to get . Then it got strange !!!! I had an email The original guitar ( the G&L ) was due in did I still want it so I replied yes I'll come and have a look and buy either that or the Godin . Problem bieng now that G&L is in the wrong colour . Weeks passed maybe a month and half nearly 2 months ... Nothing from Richards guitars So I phoned them 5 attempts to call and his new orders manager ( Tasha I think ) very nicely handles my query and had no idea when the guitars are due in .... I asked ok so when will either of these guitars be coming ? She replied it might be coming. That was enough for me .... I cancelled my orders there and then . My experience was a disappointing one .. I had really hoped for a good service. I'd say these are major problems 1. Missed emails 2 no response to questions asked in emails 3 no communication when your left waiting for instruments no update Now I understand Richard posts videos on his YouTube updating etc marvellous .. but The guy just waffles on and on and on about his feelings - I don't care about his feelings I just want my guitar ! Thank God I never parted with any money

Resolved: Richards Guitars - unprofessional, aggressive and refuses refund

Updated by user May 12, 2017
I have my money back. My ordeal is over.

In the process I have been accused of blackmail for posting negative reviews.

Honesty is not blackmail. Anyway, I am just glad it's sorted and I can get my life back..

Original review May 12, 2017
This retailer is a swindler who took the best part of a thousand pounds for a guitar which was sent to me with a faulty nut. This left the high E string running right along the fret board and it slipped over the edge when fretted. He seemed a relatively reasonable guy at first, agreeing to pay for a repair, acknowledging the fault. However, I declined the repair - as is my statutory right - despite his protestations and quite abusive manner. I returned it to him through a courier in the same packing. Foolishly, I did not check my bank account for a couple of months but when I did I noticed he had not reimbursed me. When I contacted him regarding the refund he claimed not to know why the guitar had been returned and where it had even come from! A completely bizarre claim as it was all arranged through UPS, via email exchanges and it had been signed for! Anyway, at this point he refused to pay the refund and became very aggressive indeed. He threw a series of malicious allegations at me - claiming I had not packed the guitar properly and it had come back damaged. (I photographed the instrument prior to returning it following a horror story from a friend so I look forward to being able to expose this lie in court). He also got extremely precious about the set up of the guitar as I had lowered the action in an attempt to mitigate the effects of the badly aligned string (to make it tighter with the guitar neck). He tried to claim this amounted to additional 'damage' to the instrument and that I had 'no right' to adjust the set up and it should have come back with exactly the same action as it went out. As if adjusting neck relief is irreversible! Ridiculously, he then insisted that my 'messing' with the set up had caused the initial problem with the nut/string alignment (even when this problem was actually visible on pre-sale photos on his website, as I subsequently discovered. These will be useful in court as well). He also said he needed to be compensated for having to re-set the instrument. That he had actually signed for the guitar, had it in his workshop for two months while not raising any of these bogus 'damage' issues with me AND kept my money into the bargain(!) was a matter of indifference to him. On the contrary, HE was the injured party and I had tried to 'swindle' him. In the end, he offered to pay me 80 per cent of my money - based on the spurious grounds that it had come back damaged. Now, really. If any retailer believed that the customer had ordered goods, damaged them and returned them asking for a refund, would they really 'negotiate' the extent of this refund? They would politely tell the customer to take a walk. Essentially, it became clear from his increasingly desperate attempts to offer this partial refund that he did not want to lose on the sale altogether. (I have read subsequent reviews on other sites of 'Richards Guitars' where customers have also had to fight tooth and nail for refunds. These reviews also revealed that a previous guitar company of his had gone bust so perhaps the money is indeed everything to him - even at the expense of a demolished reputation). Anyway, he has reimbursed me 80 percent of the total I paid and thus has stolen £194. Presumably, he is deviously calculating that I will not think such a sum is worth chasing up through the courts and he can just keep it. However, theft is theft and he is mistaken. I will not drop this if it costs me the full grand the instrument cost in the first place. Please do not be fooled by this shark and the bogus testimonials on his website (it's impossible to leave any negative feedback on there and he clearly cherry picks the ones he cites). Go to somewhere reputable and professional instead.
