A lot of money down the drain

We had a plumbing backup in a 57 year old house we had just purchased in Menifee, Ca. My husband tried to snake the main waste line and got stuck so we called Rescue Rooter to come snake it out. Unfortunately, we did not read any reviews about this company before calling them. The plumber had less success, so called his boss to come look. They said that the camera showed rotted pipes that needed to be replaced. They began digging under the slab and removing things to the tune of $14875. They told us that all the sewage pipes were rotted for our house so the price increased another $7150. We took out a loan for $22, 025 for work they were doing. During that time we had to relocate for 9 nights. The plumbers were polite and appeared to know their jobs, however, their finish work was poor quality. This made it more difficult for tile flooring to be put down. The boss even gave us his cell phone so we could call him with questions and even offered to help us with our insurance company. Upon completion of the job, we were asked to to get an itemized invoice for work done by our insurance company. When we called his personal cell phone, he was noticeably annoyed. We were then told by the company that they don’t do that. We found that we were even billed for jobs not done. They refused to communicate with the insurance company and would not return our calls or emails. We finally contacted corporate customer care for assistance with the invoice and pricing. She was absolutely no help at all. She sided with them and said that the rates were preset but would not give us a breakdown. Our insurance agent told us that after checking with other plumbers in the area for pricing for a job like that, we were vastly overcharged. We wish that we had checked them out before we let them jackhammer our floors and add on jobs. Unfortunately this company is getting more jobs because people saw their trucks in front of our house. We wish we could have advised them not to use Rescue Rooter. When they do a job, they stay for days.

Resolved: Go with another plumbing company!

Updated by user Feb 14, 2017
UPDATE: after taking and working with the manager I felt we reached somewhat of neutral ground. When I spoke with him on the phone he couldn't account for the full amount that was charged.

And when he came to my house to look at the work that was done he said the extra cost that wasn't accounted he said was the overhead. Which I looked at the faucet set they installed which was around $125 and charged around $300 for it. That is called the overhead. They charge $185/hr.

The plumber only gets probably around $25-$40 per hour. The remaining is overhead. So when he said the amount not accounted for was the overhead. Apparently they have an over head for their overhead.

So just be be aware of that.

Would I use this company again? Answer - yes, but wouldn't be my first top 5 choices

I wanted to fix my leaky faucet and after seeing the videos on YouTube it showed you just needed to replace a simple part and than that would be it. I tried to take out the piece but the previous owners did it wrong and we had to call a plumber. So these guys came and gave me a quote for the new piece and doing the work which at first I didn't think it was a bad price. But the plumber (Tyler) put in our new faucet he cracked it and it was useless. He said we would have to use another plumber or "upgrade" to having to redo our mixing valves. Its winter, the water is off, we had no choice. To fix a leaky bathtub cost us over $1100 and we had to pay for the part that he broke!! He said that Rescue Rooter has a flat cost of almost $300/per hour, which was not told us before. Something that never should have cost over $500 we had to pay over $1100 just isn't ethical and this isn't an honest company! Go with another company!!! This company will take your money in anyway they can!! RUN!!

Rescue Rooter - Plumbing Service Review

I called ARS or Rescue Rooter OC. My sinks are clogged and they said they would have someone out here within the hour. Then they called and said they were running late. Then they called and said they didn't have an ETA or that they could even get to it today. Of course by that time all other places were closed. Then he called once again and asked if I want to reschedule to tomorrow. I said "How do I know you will show up then? He said he didn't know. Long story short, I don't even know if they have plumbers or a business. After I read the reviews, I think I dodged a bullet.

Rescue Rooter Scammers and Thieves

Rescue rooter came to my home for a simple toilet stoppage. Within one hour, the plumber managed to break my plumbing to the point my entire plumbing system was not workable. I was without water and toilets for over 30 hours. In order to fix the problem Rescue Rooter created the plumber quoted me $10,000 to $35,000. He also advised me that the company offers financing, so I shouldn't worry about it! I CALLED A REPUTABLE PLUMBER AND MY REPAIR was $545, to repair what Rescue Rooter did and to fix the plumbing problem. VERY VERY SCARY. ALL PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE OF THIS SCAM.
