Did you have a Bit of phruit Lately?

If this isn’t the first article or piece of information that you are reading of the Phruit fiasco, then a thought might be creeping into your mind that whether all these allegations are actually true or not. I, being one of the closest witnesses to these scandalizing facts, can vouch for each of them to be true. Who am I? I am the owner of a small capital IT marketing Solutions Company (the name of which I shall not disclose in fear of sabotage). My company was one of the many to whom the database preparation work of UK telecom giant Phruit Limited was distributed. Shady to the say the least, not much of the details of either the source or the course of work was shared with us at any stage whatsoever. Yet we complied according to the company guidelines anyways because of our strict customer satisfaction policies. As time proceeded we came to realize that what Phruit actually wanted us to do was what we say in the layman’s terms, “sugging”. Under the hood, we were given a job to steal data from customers from different sources so that Phruit can cheat new leads out of the system. This was a crime and we immediately terminated our contract with Phruit when the slightest of its knowledge reached us. But this separation didn’t come without price. Phruit added another level to its villainy and withheld our payments for the jobs we had done for them in the past. All our civil tries of requesting for payments have gone in vain. We also came to know that the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has cancelled Phruit’s affiliation and has accused the company under charges of violating the DMC: 1. 21.18 and 21.20 on TPS compliance and data cleansing 2. 3.11 under which Phruit has a responsibility for compliance by suppliers 3. 3.18 on "sugging" or carrying out sales and marketing under the disguise of research A warning for the customers registered under Telephone Preference Services (TPS): Phruit is using your customer details to generate fraudulent leads and selling them to bogus telemarketing companies. If you are a customer or business office who have suffered from the frauds of Phruit before or don’t want to do so in the future this is the address that you should look out for: Phruit Limited The Barn Huddlestone's Wharf Newark Nottinghamshire Ng24 4ul Contact no.: 0844 41 4* 741

Working with Phruit is not Always Fruitful for Indian and Filippino Call Centres

You get paid for your work – this is the universally accepted norm. But some of the companies seem to have a different opinion altogether. They often hire other companies, and when these companies finish their job the client companies do not pay them at all. – yeah, believe it or not such companies do exist, and some of them are pretty well-known in their respective industries. Don’t believe it? Well, you need to read this: There are a few companies that opt for outsourcing and hire a number of offshore call centers to do their job, and when they deliver the work these companies just don’t pay them. In some cases, it is due to some issues on behalf of the call centre, but in most cases these are done intentionally with a motive to cheat the call center by not paying their hard earned money. In case you are wondering such unethical practice is not exercised by reputed companies in the US or the UK, you seriously need to wake up and see. Some of the well known companies in these countries are also involved in such practices. Have a quick look at the latest example - Phruit Limited, one of the leading names in telemarketing and lead generation industry in the United Kingdom. The company has cheated a number of call centre companies in India and the Philippines by not paying them the remuneration of their work. Phruit hires most of these call centres for their lead generation and telemarketing operations. And after they have delivered results, Phruit has simply turned a deaf ear towards their request for payment. Of course, a company as well known as Phruit is not expected to get involved in such malpractices. As a matter of fact, such big companies often have a reputation for having a transparent operating procedure. But, it is due to some unethical and fraudulent companies like Phruit; similar companies often earn a bad name. Now, dispute regarding payment is no new thing in the call center industry. Many small companies and consultants often don’t pay the call center they hire intentionally in order to cheat a few call centers. But a company of such reputation as Phruit has never committed such intentional non-payment on a series before. And please note that, this is not just one singular incident where the company did not pay the call center owing to a bad performance or due to the unavailability of a signed non-disclosure agreement (NDA). Almost every Indian and Filippino call centers whom they have worked with have complained about at least one case of non-payment by the company even if everything is in place. If you look deep into the matter, you will find that quite a few reputed Indian and Filippino call centers have the same complaint against Phruit – that of intentional non-payment in order to cheat the BPOs. Some have even gone to the extent of seeking legal advice. However, Phruit is yet to respond to any of their communications, legal or otherwise.

Phruit’s got a never say die attitude towards deceiving customers

Some companies will never change, cut them down in one way and they will simply re-emerge in other. It's hard to keep customers away from such companies because they will simply keep changing form as they push ahead with their goal to deceive customers. Yet individuals do deserve to be warned about the intentions of a deceptive company beforehand. They deserve to know which company is on its rounds to make a fool out of them. A company that is presently out to fool customers is known as Coracall. And guess what, it is Phruit that is functioning under a new name all over again. Yes, if individuals think that Phruit disappeared forever in 2010, then they are wrong because they are very much back on the market scene and intend to stay. However, individuals should stay away from them lest they get caught up in its web of deception. For those readers who are unaware of the past of Phruit and therefore the threat that Coracall poses to individuals, let's take a close look at Phruit's infamous past.Phruit was a well known company in the United Kingdom until 2010 and that's when the truth about it came spilling out.Phruit indulged in unethical marketing acts and grossly violated the privacy of individuals. How did they do so? Well, their agents called up customers and began to extract personal information from them but stated that they were doing so only for research purposes and this is where they lied. In actuality, the information that was sold to various product selling companies and this resulted in a flood of phone calls to the homes of the concerned individuals. They got harassed by these product selling companies the entire day and night and wondered how on earth did their contact details reach these companies in the first place? This they wondered because they had opted for TPS compliance and had their numbers registered on the Do Not Call lists. So in spite of taking these measures, how did their number slip out? They began to think hard about this and realized that maybe Phruit Limited, the so-called market research company was behind this situation that they were in. And so they decided to get the authorities to look into the matter. A DMC investigation helped the ugly truth about Phruit to be discovered. It was revealed that Phruit had violated the following guidelines: 1. 21.18 and 21.20 on TPS compliance and data cleansing.2. 3.11 under which Phruit has a responsibility for compliance by suppliers.3. 3.18 on "sugging" or carrying out sales and marketing under the disguise of research. When the masses as well as the business world came to know about these facts they were totally shocked and they lost their trust in Phruit who had no option but to shut down. However, this was only a temporary move as they made plans of a comeback while they were underground and have now emerged as Coracall. But how can we say with such certainty that Phruit and Coracall are related? We can easily prove that the two are related by stating just three reasons: 1. Phruit had to disappear from the market scene in the UK, but it was not long before they shifted to South Africa, assumed a new name-Coracall and began functioning out of a call center in KwaZulu Natal, and yet a little research will help one understand that their proprietor is one and the same-British company Assured Capital Holdings.2. Also it's interesting to note that management is the same for both companies because Mr. Phil Lightfoot, the director of Phruit Limited is the Chief Executive Officer for Coracall!3. And the services offered by Coracall as well as the strategies employed by them are very similar to that of Phruit. So since Phruit is accessing customers via a different name now, their motives are still the same ie, to fool customers. So individuals have to stay away from Coracall no matter how much agents try to convince them that their intentions are good. However, if Coracall has already called them up then its time to put an end to this nonsense at once by contacting them at the following address:Barnby House,Barnby Gate,Newark, Nottinghamshire,NG24 1PZ.Or they can be called up at 08455 19**** Emily Edison is an active protestor against the exploits of deceptive companies like Coracall. She has urged individuals to stay away from it since it shares its roots with the deceptive company called Phruit Limited.

These companies were selling similar will-writing services, which were already offered to them By Phruit. Phruit was also aware that there were number of customers who have already registered at TPS, to opt out of receiving marketing calls. Phruit by default also handed those names and now it is denying any such act of breach. With a single complaint at TPS office, DMA began its investigation. It was found that Phruit was guilty enough to sell its customers information to other companies. After that complaint to support the investigation in longer run, DMA found hundreds of web complaints in the name of Phruit and companies using Phruit's data. DMA based on thorough investigation, underwent two years discussion with Phruit and finally concluded on proving Phruit's guilt. Phruit was suspended for a whole year and they were asked to prove their innocence. If they fail to answer why they breached their customers trust by selling the data, then they can confirm their membership back, or else they have zero chances to retain themselves. It is most vital to uphold professional standards that direct entire marketing industry, DMC has recommended to suspend Phruit from DMA membership that clearly stated that it does not comply with Code of the Association. For one whole year Phruit has been suspended and dictated that the suspension will not be uplifted until Phruit is able to show them enough proof that the action they had taken for so long had compliance with DMA rules. Now DMA wants only those members at their agency who do not compromise with their standards. One needs to be trustworthy and maintain their professional ethics to get privilege from DMA membership. DMA code of practice is considered as cornerstone in its unique attempt to maintain political, commercial and consumer rights. For this reason if any company is failing to maintain their standards as per DMA, norms then it will be forcing to bring down the reputation of themselves along with the association. As a result of this, the commission proposed that Phruit's membership of the DMA should be suspended for a period of at least one year. The commission also added that this suspension should thereafter be lifted on condition that Phruit has to provide on evidence of action taken to ensure compliance with the Code of Practice. George Kidd, chair of the Direct Marketing Commission, said: "It's vital that we uphold the high professional standards that define the direct marketing industry. Our recommendation to suspend Phruit from DMA membership clearly illustrates the seriousness of failure to comply with the Association's Code. Be it lead generation business or consumer goods business, the business owners often take help of unethical practices to get more revenue. If you take a close look at the lead generation industry, you will find a number of unethical practices taking place there. The number one of such practices is TPS complaints. When a consumer signs up for telephone preference service or TPS to opt out for business calls, then it is mandatory for the businesses to respect their privacy. These businesses then carry out marketing calls and invade the privacy of these consumers. The second unethical practice is known as "˜Sugging'. In this case, agents call people up for research and try to sell goods or services to people in the research call itself. This way they play with the faith of the consumers. What Can You Do To Stop Unethical Practices By Lead Generation Companies?

Most of the people dislike getting marketing calls in the middle of their busy schedule and often go to the extent of opting for telephone preference service (TPS) to opt out of these annoying calls. But what if you still get marketing calls after opting for TPS? You will feel that this service is worthless and complain against the same, right? But in most cases it is not the service to be blamed. Actually there are a number of lead generation companies that sell their data including the numbers that opted for TPS. As a result you get marketing calls from different organizations. But that is not the end of it. Some lead generation companies even breach the trust of the consumers by trying to sell them things while conducting a research over the phone! This process is an unethical one and is infamous as "sugging". This practice is strictly forbidden in Direct Marketing Association code of conduct and yet some well known lead generation companies continue with such practices. Phruit Limited can be a good example. Though the company portrays itself as the industry leader in lead generation, it is found involved in some unethical practices. In an investigation by DMC, fueled by a single complaint it was found that the company broke the following DMA provisions:- "¢ 21.18 and 21.20 on TPS compliance and data cleansing "¢ 3.11 under which Phruit has a responsibility for compliance by suppliers "¢ 3.18 on "sugging" or carrying out sales and marketing under the disguise of research Based on these results the Direct Marketing Association suspended Phruit from its membership. If you know someone who is getting marketing calls even after he or she has opted for TPS, tell them to lodge a complaint immediately. They can also voice their complaint on the web through various complaint boards and comment on complaints that are already there. They can even use social media to let people know about the company that is giving them calls. This will help other people stay on guard. They can also mail to the company concerned and request them to stop such practice immediately. If they receive calls from Phruit Limited then they can contact them in the following address:- Phruit Limited The Barn Huddlestone's Wharf Newark Nottinghamshire Ng24 4ul Phone:- 0844 41 4* 741 You can address your mails to Phil Lightfoot, the director of the company. In case of "sugging" or making marketing calls in guise of research, you can take some measures other than lodging complaint. And if you sense that the telecaller is trying to sell you something in the research call itself you can always choose to end the call. You can later lodge your complaint and disclose the number on the web. This will help others to stay on guard as well. Just remember, only you have the power to stop such unethical practices!
