National General Insurance Reviews

4/5

National General’s website is pitiful. They should be embarrassed in this day and age that they are putting it out there on Google for everyone to see.

I decided to log into my account on National General this morning to change my insurance for my truck from liability to full coverage. It seems everything is online now and I finally have jumped on in the deep end to keep up with technology. National General is still standing at the edge of the pool shaking with fear and wringing their hands hoping nobody gives them a push. I had put my username and password in my phone so I wouldnt forget it and not be able to log into my account when I needed to. But, alas, one or the other was incorrect according to the website login page. I went through the steps and successfully changed my password according to the website, so I entered my username and new password and, BEEEP!BEEEEP! Thanks for trying, maam. Either your username or password is incorrect said the website again. I Google the website to get some clarification and there it is! Your username is the email you have on file with National General. I go back to the website and put in my email and my new password, and Holy Mother of God, either my username or password is incorrect once again. I am still relatively calm at this point, so I try calling customer service 1-800 number to try and reach tech support. The phone system doesnt even work like most of them do nowadays. You cant shut the computer down and hit 0 over and over and it says its connecting you to an operator here. That would be too much like right, so I wait and I listen and I very quietly, under my breath, start to *** this and I wish a *** would that until finally a human being comes on the line and lets me know he is sending me to tech support and hold on just a minute. When he beeps off I am sent to a survey asking about what my opinion on their company is. Its not good. Its not good at all! Then the line goes dead and I am listening to a dial tone and I want to reach through the phone and jerk one of the employees right through the phone line and since I dont have a gun, I imagine myself pencil whipping them. After calmly writing a review here where I didnt say anything nasty about National General, I waited and continued to check my email for the directions to get into my online account. They never came. Now I am going to talk to some other insurance companies to get some quotes. Im walking away while I can. Good luck. Be well.

Resolved: Trying to log in online

Updated by user Aug 18, 2023

Company resolved the issue.

I was about to rate the company but I first wanted to say that whenever I have talked to my agent on the phone I have received good service. Using the website, however, sucks. So I am kind of torn about how to rate the company.

Updated by user Aug 18, 2023
My truck broke down and the engine seized up so I canceled my insurance with National General. This was after my rates increased because I couldn’t use the Routely App because my vehicle wouldn’t crank. Wow!

I am trying to log in to my account z online. I was using LMetcalf1961 as user name and the password I had stored in my phone and it said username or password incorrect. I clicked on forgot password and it said I had successfully changed password but it still said username or password incorrect. I went online and googled it and it said email address was yours username so I tried it and it says username or password incorrect. I dont know what else to do. I would like to be able to go online to do anything I may need to do in the future but I cannot. Will you please help me?

Dissatisfied Customer Service

My windshield on my vehicle was damaged as a result of sand and rocks that came from a dump truck that failed to cover its load on the highway. This truck entered the highway in front of me and I wound up behind it before I was able to change lanes away from the truck due to the interstate traffic. I called my insurance (National General Insurance) and reported the incident and was instructed to take it for repair at a glass shop. I had to wait 2 days to get it repaired. Upon dropping my vehicle off at Safelite in Hampton, Virginia, I met with a clerk who had me wait for someone to come out and evaluate the damage. After losing a day at work and checking in, I waited for over an hour to get the repair done. I left around 1:30pm. After finally getting my jeep back a while later I got a notice in the mail from National General Insurance about a week later that my rates were raised. The following year they (National General) raised my rates again prior to my policy renewal, and when I called them, the clerk stated that they went up due to all the accidents in our area. Well, this was not an accident I caused, nor did it cause any other damage to my vehicle. National General raised my rates because other people were having accidents causing them to payout for the damages and National General raised my rates again this year to cover their losses for someone elses accidents. I have had nothing on my insurance for years and am very disappointed in National General for the way they conduct business. If you have an accident penalize those people. Do not raise the rates of your customers just because someone else is reckless and has an accident. I should not be penalized for how others drive. I called National General and they would not budge. They said there was nothing they could do about it. The reputation of this company is unbelievable. Those of us that do right get penalized for the mistakes and accidents of others. Raise their rates not those that follow the rules. I will not recommend National General to anyone ever and I will be looking for a replacement Insurance company that doesnt penalize the safe drivers for the mistakes of others. I checked the state regulations and found the following: VIRGINIA § 46.2-1156. Construction, maintenance, and loading must prevent escape of contents; load covers; exemptions. I guess state law didnt apply in this case and that National General took it upon themselves to raise my rates because of other peoples recklessness and accidents. A Very Dissatisfied National General Insurance Customer.

Denied claim

I rec'd a letter saying my wife's healthcare claim procedure was denied due to a pre-existing condition. I checked with the healthcare provider and was told in writing that there was no way that what she was diagnosed with was a pre-existing condition. I submitted an appeal via email and both times I rec'd a notification back that they never opened the email. How can the company be allowed to sell policies?

Delaying finalizing claim

Original review Nov 20, 2021
National General Auto Insurance - They have effectively tied up my car for 6 weeks with nothing being done. My claim has been transferred 3 times. I have made multiple phone calls and no one has returned my calls. The information Ive received has been through the woman at the collision center. She has submitted an updated estimate for repairs twice and made phone calls. She only recently got any kind of response. I still havent heard from this company. I dont want to hear that they are short handed or they are overwhelmed with phone calls. 6 weeks! SIX WEEKS! Im not talking about last week or three weeks. Its been 6 weeks. Yes, I have a rental car. BUT I am the only authorized driver. If anyone in my family needs to go anywhere, like drs appointments let alone the grocery store, I have to drive. And I didnt cause the accident. I was stopped at a traffic light. Their customer hit me. Either approve the estimates or total the car so I can move on.

Ripped off

Do not under any circumstance ever buy health insurance form National General. They did not honor my PPO and backed out and rescinded me for a pre existing condition that they knew I had from the beginning. After they rescinded me they said they would repay $13,000 of which they refunded $9,000 and then lied and told me many stories about the remaining amount. Funny thing is, that is what they would have had to pay on my claims, they just wanted me to do it. Liars and thieves, take my advice never ever deal with them

Nasty unhelpful service

You get a good quote, but when you put a claim in you will be sorry if you get National General Insurance. Not only sorry but disgusted by the way they treat you. My claims contact person, Mariann Paredes was/is the nastiest unhelpful person, I was disgusted by the way she spoke and treated me. DO NOT GET National General Insurance, you will be sorry you did. My story below. I got Nat'l General in November of 2020 for my car and motorhome. In August 2021 my Winnebago motorhome was in a terrible storm at Tonto National Forest in Arizona that lifted one quarter of the fiberglass roof, cracked the fiberglass, leaked into the bedroom damaging the carpets, damage to the outter shell of the shower dome and a dent in one of the storage compartment doors from an irrigation plastic cover that blown off of an irrigation line. They sent out an adjuster and had an email from the motorhome dealership that I bought it from stating the roof was in excellent condition which they did not care and did not respect their own adjusters photos and documents. The adjuster showed much more damage to the interior. But my claims person Mariann Paredes said the roof was not maintained and that there was only $700 in damages, send us documented proof I'm wrong and I'll review it again. A large well known RV repair shop in Mesa Arizona said the roof had to be completely replaced and would cost $7-8,000 to replace just the roof, I need shower top, carpets, paint, etc. I should fight this but it will cost me much money to do that and she knows it, I might, but for health reasons I may not be able to.

National General Car Insurance was excellent!

I recently had a car accident and totaled my car. Thankfully, I was not hurt! Our insurance agent and National General came through with flying colors! The adjuster was timely and honest! I have no complaints! Highly recommend!

This company is fraudulent. They try to lowball the cost to repair and stall repairs. They have delayed my repairs on my 5th wheel trailer by over 2 months. I file a complaint with MT Insur. Com.

I am writing in regards to claim 21035**** which was filed on August 3, 2021 to repair my 2014 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel camp trailer, which had body damage. I am extremely frustrated and infuriated with their handling of my claim. It took over 3 weeks for National General to send out an adjuster to estimate the damage. In the interim I received an estimate to repair from Billings RV (dated September 4,2021 and received shortly thereafter) of $11,621.10. This estimate was provided during this time frame to National Generals representative's Anyeline Hubbell. Shortly after receiving this estimate Anyeline Hubble informed me that I would receive a check in the mail for $10,000, the maximum amount allowed under the policy. A week and half later, I received a call from Billings RV that they had been contacted by a National General adjuster and that his estimate was only approximately $8,572.67 and that Billings RV would have to provide proof of invoices, which was not reasonable as there are no invoices until the parts are ordered and delivered. I tried to contact the adjuster (Santiago Ortiz) on three occasions to discuss his estimate and my correspondence with Anyeline Hubbell to no avail. I sat on the phone each of the three times for over and hour to only be disconnected. I finally managed to get in contact with Jody Burgess (not sure name spelling is correct) a supervisor of the adjuster (telephone 314-813-****) to express my frustrations with the estimate and time it was taking to process the claim. She indicated that National General was only going to pay according to their estimate. I told Mrs. Burgess that I was going to take my trailer to Bretz RV the only other reputable RV repair shop in Billings, MT. I took my trailer to Bretz RV and it took Bretz almost 2 weeks to get a reputable estimate, which I received yesterday September 27, 2021. Bretzs estimate was $10,745.23, proving that National Generals estimate was severely deficient and potentially fraudulent. I received a check from National General yesterday September 27, 2021 in the amount of $7,572.67. I intend on cashing this check, but want it known that I am not cashing it as full settlement of my claim. I am frustrated and infuriated with National Generals handling of my claim. I filed my claim on August 4, 2021. It is now September 28, 2021, almost 2 months latter and the issue is not resolved. If National General would have handled this claim in a timely manner, I would have been able to have my trailer available for hunting season, which I needed by October 15th. Neither Bretz RV or Billings RV can now meet that deadline. Their actions required me to travel to Billings, MT on a few occasions to move the trailer from Billings RV to Bretz RV and to travel into Bretz on 2 occasions to discuss reasons for estimate delay as they would not return telephone calls. I live 75 miles from Billings (round trip 150 miles), which has cost me time and money. My ¾ quarter ton diesel truck only gets 9 miles to a gallon and I have numerous hours spent on the phone and commuting to and from Billings. Furthermore Bretz has informed me that they are charging me $199 for their estimate to repair. I believe I am entitled to compensation from National General for their deceptive if not fraudulent activities. I believe I should be compensated for the following items:Loss of use - will include rental of another trailer and possibly truck with proper hitch for hunting season.Mileage on my truck at the US IRS approved reimbursement rate.Compensation for my time spent to deal with this claim.Reimbursement of cost of second estimate $199.00. I respectfully, hope you can intervene in this matter and bring the issue to a timely and just conclusion. Sincerely, Joseph Brand

Worthless insurance company, POOR customer service

On June 26, 2021, We Had blowout on inside rear dual tire, resulting in damage to our motorhome. The so called senior claims adjuster Jamie Ortega ( who sucks at her job) contacted us after finally getting RV into repair shop. It took almost a month and half for them to make a 1/3 the amount the repair shop submitted.

They denied my car insurance claim and refuse to fix my car.

My car was taken without permission during the night by my on again off again boyfriend. I filed a police report ,he wrecked my car and got tickets for DUI and DWLR. I filed a police report for stealing my car. At the time of the accident 3;20 am ish I was asleep and didn't know my car was gone. While I was filing the claim I said he lived here because he stays here a lot but technically lives with his brother in Supply,NC . I live in Wilmington NC. There about 40 minutes apart. The insurance adjuster Mattew Gorry went back and forth then denied my claim and won't fix my car

This is a true story with witnesses a policy and more to prove it in court. There are alot of reviiews that coould be class action. 16 of you expressed their interest anyone else call Rob 714605****

March 18, 2020 Dear Sir, I write to you to request reimbursement of property damage to my vehicle which was rendered a complete total loss in a recent accident pursuant to the Collision Coverage that I purchased. In December, I was shopping for Auto insurance. Because my 2017White Mercedes-Benz C300 was financed through Chase, and it was required to be insured for collision. On 12-02-2019 at around 4pm, I received a call at home from a guy named Brian Toyota. He claimed to be an agent for Freeway Insurance. He ran his lowest rates speech, and then we went through my DMV history. At the end of it he gave me what sounded like a reasonable quote after I had answered all his questions. One of those questions was, Is the vehicle financed or Leased or is it owned? I told him it was financed through Chase Auto Financing. I told him I wanted no rental car and no uninsured motorist. But I did want collision. I had to have collision. Mr. Toyota broke it down to payments. Never mentioning anything about a Broker fee or that it would be reoccurring each month. I told him I wanted to try to get a few more quotes and discuss it with my Mother and I would call him back within 24 hours to decide and finalize if I chose him. I was led to believe he was the insurance itself. He proceeded to tell me that the insurance laws were changing on the 5th of December and if I did not get signed up and a deposit paid to retain today with him, that the insurance company that he gave me the quote from would not be good and that it would be at least doubled from what it was if not tripled. He also said there was a 75% chance he would not be able to even get me insured after they change the laws and rules. I told him I wanted him to explain this to my Mother as I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, and PTSD, and I am officially disabled by the state of California. She could probably understand the importance of that statement more than I would. So I put him onspeakerphone, andd he proceeded to tell her all about the insurance rules and laws changing on the 5th of December 2019, in just a few days and how I probably would not be able to get insured with not just this company but any other ones as well. He basically scared us into thinking either sign up today or forever be uninsured. So I put a deposit down by credit card and started the policy. Brian Toyota did a lot of really fast talking and led me to believe that I was covered with what I needed at a fair price. Little did I know that I was not covered with what I had to have and the price was actually going up almost 200% as soon as I got off the phone. Later that night he emailed all the documents to me. As I looked through them and checked off things and initialed others, I noticed that there was no comprehensive and collision on my own car, a 2017Mercedes-Benzz C300, financed by Chase but initialized by my 10,000 in cash down and 4,000 in parts and of course Dog transportation accessories and safety equipment. OnTuesday,y December 3rd, 2019 I made my first call to the phone number Brian Toyota gave me to contact him at. There was no answer and I left a message that there was something wrong with the policy that he wrote and sent me the evening before and that he should contact me immediately. I called him 7 times over the next 24 hours with no success and no calls back. On December 4th which was my Birthday I was reading the paperwork that I was sent and noticed also that there were extra fees added into the insurance policy that I was not made aware of at the time he was going over numbers with me, so I called the other number he provided me to another department. I explained that I was missing the coverage I was told I was getting and that I needed to get it corrected. I asked if they could look to see if he charged me for the comp and collision. They told me that they did not have access to the file but that Mr. Toyota would get back to me as soon as he came back into the office, which would be the followingTTuesday,y December 10th, 2019. I asked if there was any way I could just come down to one of their offices and get it corrected and if any more money was needed I could just pay it right there and have it corrected. And did I even need to payanymoree because I still did not get an answer as to if he charged me for the rest of the coverage. I got switched around from one person to the next and spent most of my birthday on the phone trying to get it straightened out. But no one would tell me where exactly Brian Toyota worked. Some said Norwalk, Some said LA or Downey, and some said that he did not work out of an office as he was called a, GHOST AGENT. He was a, Satellite. I even got told that he worked out of whatever office he wanted to on any given week. But mostly worked from home. One thing was for sureEveryone I talked to seem to know Brian Toyota, and I was beginning to think that might not be a good thing. Not only was I on the phone every day from the 3rd until the 13th. But my Mother and my friend both were making calls to all the numbers that they had transferred me to in the last few days. On one of those days there were 3 of us on our individual phones from 9:30 am until 1:30pm. We all got the same blow off and told that Brian Toyota was AWOL from work and that several people were calling and looking for him (see footnotes). 31 phone calls documented with names and numbersALL BEFORE DECEMBER 13th. . THE ACCIDENT occurred on Friday the 13th of December. I was on my way to drop the car off at the body shop when it happened. I had made over 31 calls to my supposed insurance Broker and had tried to take money to whomever they wanted it to go to. I had alerted them to the mistake in the policy and requested that Comp and Collision coverage begin immediately, that was on the 3rd and every day after that up until the 13th at 1pm. I think and I know full well that I did my due diligence in attempting to get someone at Freeway Insurance to correct the mistake and get the car covered. IT is solely on FREEWAY INSURANCE BROKERS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES, with what has happened due to their failure to help a custom That is exactly what NEGLIGENCE AND BAD FAITH IS.. (KEEP IN MIND HE CHARGED ME FOR A COMPLETE FULL term of months OF COMP AND COLLISION AS IT INCLUDED THE MONTH OF DECEMBER, THATs ADMISSION NUMBER #3!!I) I then left and called my Claims Adjuster and let him and Elinay Moulais know that it was now backdated correctly. My Claims Rep Oswaldo Lopez, sent an email to Freeway Insurance Brokers, to confirm the paperwork. Meanwhile, on January 8th, 2020 I received the final copy of the policy from the underwriters and it confirmed and reflected that I was backdated and I was covered on my car. My Attorney reviewed the paperwork and the policys and has confirmed that I was covered. Furthermore, I was entitled to change and add to my policy when necessary in a reasonable amount of time which I was not afforded. Also Freeway Insurance Employees circumvented me. Blatantly and with total disregard for the safety and the integrity of Chase Auto Loans. Any one of them could have changed or added to my policy and taken my money. Because it was financed they were required to in a reasonable amount of time such as 48 hours NOT 17 or 20 DAYS. I made every effort to correct YOUR mistake. My Mother and my friend made independent efforts to do the same. (See complaint you closed on 2-12-20 without ever really looking into it). They spent hours on the phone having to argue with 15 to 20 of your companys employees over something you should have jumped to correct. So for you to even attempt to deny ANY OF WHAT IS CONTAINED IN THIS LETTER INSURANCE COMMISSION COMPLAINT ..And ..EMINENT LAWSUITis laughable. You have over 60 reviews from your past victims, which made the mistake of having anything to do with you and each and every one of them wants in on a class action suit against both Freeway Insurance Brokers and National General. Amongst other violations and ethics National General committed Felonys by deliberately not recording witness statements and then having the audacity to claim that witnesses said or did not actually say. You falsified at least one witness statements. You both have acted in Bad Faith on many levels. There has been Breach of Contract, and Freeway has been double billing me. And then there is the $430 money order that was delivered to the Winston Salem Address and never returned to me. The other driver was at fault for this accident. She made 2 or 3 illegal lane changes and was driving in a reckless and unsafe manner. She forced me over and into the curb and left me NO WAY OUT OTHER THEN THE WAY I WENT. Then she shortstopped without any warning or signal. I am taking NO liability for this accident. It was December 13th 2019. Its now March 16th 2020 and you people have not been investigating shit. You are stalling. I want my car either fixed or as it has been declared a total loss, a check cut for the total loss so Chase is off my back. I want a supplemental check in the amount of $5000 for the stress, hassle, and expenses you people have caused me. And I want a complete and total refund of my money paid to both of your companies. You have 15 days to comply. And if the Insurance Commission is smart, they will shut you down not just based on what you have done to me, but to at least 60 others. April 3rd, 2020 is your deadline. You either cover me under my policy which is valid. Or you admit her fault and cover it. As you know, if a person is covered by Collision, it makes no difference who was at fault in the accident. Well, I am not at fault. BUT, in addition to that I have in my possession two documents from National General clearly stating and validated as such from my Attorney, that I had Collision Coverage at the time of the accident. If you refuse to cover the property damage loss under Collision Coverage, then I will sue you for BAD FAITH. As you know. In a BAD FAITH CASE. PUNITIVE damages are available. I suggest that you do the right thing, honor your contract, and pay for my damages within 14 days. Otherwise, if you do not, I will have my attorney nail you for BREACH OF CONTRACT AND BAD FAITH. I will also report everyone involved here to the State Department Insurance Commission. I would appreciate it if you decide by April 3rd. Thank you for your time and consideration with this matter. Respectfully Submitted, Robert Snyder
