No coverage!

. It all started with signing up for Delta Dental in late June. Our dentist only accepts Delta so I signed up for it and sent in my July payment coupon along with a check. A few weeks later I received a letter saying that Meritain had gotten the July payment but that I needed to send in an additional 64.43 for the added cost of Delta/ cost increases. They said for prompt attention so I sent in the check right away. That would have been July 24. I even mailed it from Denver so it might get there earlier. Today I went in to pick up my prescription and was told that my husband and I have no coverage! We both called Meritain and were told different stories but basically that until Meritain cashes the check, we have NO COVERAGE! I have been sending in the coupons for Meritain/ Cobra for the past year on time each and every month. There is no reason to cancel our insurance based on 64 dollars I didn't know I needed to pay due to the increase. What if we had an accident or heart attack? Nowhere in the letter informing me that I owed additional monies did they say we would be completely without insurance until they got the check! Nowhere do they allow you to pay online or by phone! I understand "Old School" but this is highly unfair to deny coverage based on a decidedly archaic system with no flexibility nor kindness. Cobra is rather like the Wizard of Oz, no one has their number and the only way to communicate with them is through 48 hour turn-around emails. Don't even get me started on Delta Dental because they are another entity from Meritain but Meritain signs you up for Delta. My husband made the fatal mistake of attempting to go to the dentist this month. We had no way of knowing we weren't signed up but it turns out that it was more than the dental... until today. Meritain, Cobra, and Delta all need to coordinate so that each company isn't blaming the other for mistakes. I have dutifully paid each and every month. If Meritain wants to paid the correct amount when you make changes, then why don't they tell you to call instead of sending new coupons weeks later?

Difficult to get coverage

Original review Jul 12, 2023
We pay a lot for this insurance and they will not cover medication for obesity. If they do, they leave you with a HUGE copay. But other commercial insurances will cover 90 to 100% and Medicaid pays 100%! WOW!

As a provider, it is impossible to get through to a representative. We need to check patient benefits and their automated system is awful and hour long wait time to get to a human is not sustainable.

As a provider, it is impossible to get through to a representative. We need to check patient benefits and their automated system is awful and hour long wait time to get to a human is not sustainable. We have patients in front of us and zero time to be on hold and/or trying to communicate with Meritain's "automated" system.

Denial of Previously Authorized Surgery Without any Notice or Reason

I had an Aortic Valve Replacement done that was preauthorized and approved. Meratain then reversed the authorization after the surgery was completed with no valid reason other then "not enough information provided". The surgeons provided bucket loads of information, numerous supportive tests, echocardiagrams, and all that was needed to support severe aortic stenosis. I was a high risk patient and could not have open heart. The only alternative was for transcatheter aortic valve replacement or to rapidly move to a critical risk of stroke or complete heart failure or the valve becoming completely blocked. Meritain literally reversed their decision while I was admitted and the surgery done. It appears that I am now faced with a fight about a surgical process that has clear-cut standards that all legitimate and ethical insurance companies use. All of my physicians and surgeons are shocked at this denial after giving approval. It seems I can't rely on Meritain to give a good authorization first time around. I'm a fighter though and I intend to put up a good fight. I'm paying a lot for this insurance. If you have Meritain Health, be careful. They are not honest, ethical, or knowledgeable concerning the procedures they review.

Registering for Meritain online Provider Portal

I am trying to register for Meritain Med Necessity online. I submit Prior Authorizations for Physical offices. I am not able to retrieve my past online user ID and password. Tried to register online but keep receiving a message information entered incorrect. How can I correct this and register for online prior authorization submissions?

HORRIBLE. Worst company I’ve ever dealt with!

I want to bash my head in. This is the worst insurance company Ive ever dealt with. They are completely incompetent. Ive had so many doctors complaining they cant get claims through, multiple faxes and phone calls never being responded to and thats just the tip of the iceberg! They keep denying services I need. They are so unresponsive and give different information constantly. I honest to God have no idea how they are still in operation. Ive never had this many issues with any company in my life. Literally, considering changing jobs because the insurance is that bad. Run!

Horrible customer service...even when they make a big mistake

Original review Sep 29, 2022
Meritain's Provider Services team incorrectly quoted my coverage to my provider three times. I then called Meritain and was able to confirm my correct coverage with them, however instead of apologizing for the many hours of my time that their errors wasted, the representative I spoke with (Andy M) told me that I shouldn't be calling them since my plan uses an intermediary (Accolade) for member support. I can't even believe his audacity, given I wouldn't have ever called them if they hadn't misquoted my coverage to my provider, thus resulting in an incorrect estimate of my costs for the procedure. He went on to basically berate me by saying "it's just an estimate, and I'm sure you still need the procedure regardless of cost" which seems highly inappropriate. The funny thing is that I did initially call Accolade, and they immediately confirmed my correct coverage, however my provider had to rely on the incorrect information being provided by Meritain given they are the payer.

WORST INSURANCE EVER HAD IN MY 37 YEARS OF WORKING

Worst insurance company ever had. Premiums are the highest ever had to pay, and the benefits are absolutely worthless. Expect to pay more for all medical services, and have nearly nothing covered. TheiD customer service is also terrible, and basically no help at all. Because they usually do not know the answers to any of your questions. Or give you wrong information all together. The company I work for was bought out by STELLAR HEALTH CARE.. Which only provides this insurance. I am sure because it is the cheapest insurance they can give. I only wish that I could go back to United Health Care, as before. Meritain is so discouraging to use & you get billed for everything. Despite paying for a higher level insurance plan. Ugh, its just the worst!! Avoid it if you have any other options!!

Worst company ever !!! Most expensive for absolute worst services. Constantly rejecting medication refills as well as last minute rejecting my husbands necessary surgery the afternoon prior.

I would rate this company 0 if able. We never had issues with our Aetna policy prior to this joke of a company taking on with my husbands company.

Meritain paid my provider for a service I paid for in full. I have used the same provider for years and the check always was issued to me. I have waited since June 3 for the situation to be recitified

Nothing but problems since switching insurance companies in the beginning of the year.

We've had nothing but problems with this insurance company from the beginning. From getting preauthorization for surgery, medications and now IV infusions, we've had nothing but problems. I'm scheduled for an infusion tomorrow, which has now been canceled, due to not having recent labs. I had these labs drawn in July. Now, I have to wait even longer, for treatment, that I so desperately need. We've also had issues with financials. We have met our deductible, early on, but it seems not one person can give us correct information.

Nothing but problems since we've switched insurance companies in the beginning of the year.

After a major surgery and the cost of an expensive medication, our deductible has been met. Apparently, not one person can give my husband an answer as to why the numbers change. I've now been denied an important infusion I've been desperately needing for months. Finding out the day before, one, I owe out of pocket and two, I need recent labs, which I just had a month ago. I feel badly for anyone who has this as their insurance company.

This insurance sucks! To have to argue over a medication or a shot for someone with stage 3 terminal cancer is absolute *** Greedy *** *** bastards:

My husband has a very low WBC count and RBC due to chemotherapy. The doctor wants to give him a shot to help. We have been arguing for hours with these idiots to get the shot. In addition, we had to fight for pain meds. Then the doctor admitted him for dehydration and meritain didn't think they should have to pay the bill. You people are nothing but *** maggots
