Very, very dissatisfied

If you're a senior, you'll spend all your time arguing with medical entities trying to get the required forms. I sent in all the necessary paperwork for a certain bill. I confirmed with the person who answered the phone that it was all there. Nothing happened. I called back two months later. You don't have all the paperwork in. Oh, wait, yes you do. You've paid your minimum. We should pay that bill for you. I checked back in a week. You don't have the paperwork in. I explained that I did. But after too many phone calls to count, I gave up. I wrote the check and paid the bill myself. We paid in for three years before we used it. When we needed it, it was a nightmare.

So others avoid wasting their time and money like I did...

Original review Nov 10, 2021
This company sucks! I signed up thinking, 'Oh great! A good 'Christian' based company. Why not work with fellow 'Christians' instead of some over-priced heartless insurance company. I then signed up and visited the doctor's office on two separate occasions. On both visits the medical offices refused to accept medi-share, they stated they've had nothing but problems with medi-share, and they no longer work with them. I submitted both bills to medi-share using their 'reimbursement' forms, because the clinics would not. I then had to call them 'over and over' to get the status of said bills. Over the course of several months I spoke to several medi-share rep's, was told each time the bills were being processed. I was told 'not to worry' 'everything is being taken care of'. I then received in the mail late notices for both bills, so I paid them myself 'out of pocket'. I then re-submitted the reimbursement forms and subsequently was told numerous times 'not to worry' 'it's all being taken care of'. Several more months pass, and I called them back, same response, BUT no reimbursement check was ever sent to me. I then tried emailing medi-share but each time they could never get me a straight answer as to when the reimbursement check would be issued. One time I received an email with scripture in BOLD CAPITAL letters, but no real answer. Finally I received an email saying I'd be reimbursed in early November 2021. Today, November 10, 2021 I spoke to a medi-share rep and was told, 'the reimbursement is being processed' but couldn't tell me anything more. I then asked to speak to the finance department and this person had no clue as to anything I was talking about, UNBELIEVABLE! I then asked to speak to a supervisor who somehow had all my information and finally told me that there would be NO reimbursement check, it would all be applied towards my share of cost. NOT ONCE was I told this before. These people don't seem to be on the same page, it's like they use different software systems or keep separate records.... PLEASE!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY USING MEDI-SHARE! I guarantee you'll regret it... Sincerely, Michael McShane

Personal observation from a past Medi-Share member

This isn't written to badmouth Medi-Share but simply a notice to those thinking about changing to their health care program. Before you enroll, remember this is NOT insurance and for that reason, my medical providers would not submit claims. I had to always pay the bill and then obtain the correct medical codes and costs from the provider to submit to Medi-Share for reimbursement. While I did recognize saving on my premium costs, it wasn't sufficient to offset the time needed to develop the claim for me to continue with Medi-Share. After one year, I returned to an insurance company. So all I'm saying is if you're considering a change to Medi-Share, be sure to first check with your providers to be sure they will submit the claims.

Not paying my medical bills as they should be

I would never ever recommend this group for insurance. I know they don't call themselves an "Insurance" group but basically that is what they are but they share your medical bills with other members. I met my deductible of over $10,000.00 and then they were supposed to cover any other medical bills, except co payments, for the rest of the year but they are refusing to pay because they keep saying it's for a pre-existing condition, even though they have received letters from my doctors and many phone calls disputing this.

Positive Experience

My family of 8 has been with medi-share has been almost entirely positive. It takes extra work, but our medical care seems better than many in more traditional plans. We have to save and plan for the different rules of the company, but it has not been a problem. We have advised about 10 families in their decisions to join. None of them, let me repeat, none of them has voiced a complaint. Its not for everyone and we advise the problems/challenges, but we have been happy so far.

Update

Happy to report that I have been offered a position with a great medical insurance program. I made the mistake of retiring early because I thought Medi-Share was the answer to my medical insurance needs. Well, it wasn't and I regretted quitting my job back in August 2019 ever since. After getting hit with 19+% increase in premium when the average increase was to be 7.5% was just too much. And, Medi-share had yet to even share one penny for me. The hassles of getting something covered as well. To my surprise, when I called to cancel, the rep offered me a 20% decrease in premium cost if I stayed. That shows me they are losing members and are doing what they can to stop the exodus. Of course, I said no. God has blessed me to rid myself of Medi-Share. As I stated earlier, they are a business performing under the guise of a Christian organization. Stay away.

Dissatisfaction with MediShare

A bicycle accident in April resulted in a shattered elbow. We did not schedule the accident with MediShare, but sought help after the accident at a nearby hospital in the covid 19 lockdown. We later learned it was out of network. MediShare has resisted every single request for reimbursement taking over six months to reimburse us less than one third of the cost. We had to file multiple appeals to get them to consider anesthesia for surgery to install a plate and seven screws as not elective. They don't care, they fight you every bit of the way, they offer no help negotiating the hospital charges, but they end every correspondence with a blessing. MediShare is the worst decision we have made.

Terrible Experiences

Well, another wonderful (sarcasm) time disputing a bill with Medi-Share. Didn't receive the PHCS Network discount on my anesthesia bill even though the doctor and facility were in network. In all my years, this is the first time I have experienced this. In the past, when I had real insurance, if the doctor was in network, his choice of facility was included as in-network as was the anesthesiologist. Not so with Medi-Share. They say the anesthesiologist was out of network and thus no discount. Even the rep from the billing department of the provider admitted that with all the billing she has done, when the doctor is in network, the anesthesia is considered as in-network, whether or not they truly are. I am truly sorry I ever chose Medi-Share. I thought by choosing Medi-Share, I finally found something to enable me to quit my job (with medical benefits) and retire early (59 1/2) because I had some sort of back-up medical insurance. (yes, I know they're not insurance. But they are meant to sort of substitute for one) Biggest mistake I have ever made. They are not what they espouse to be. They espouse Christian values, principles, etc falsely. They are a business performing under the guise of a Christian organization. Plain & simple. As it says in the Bible; "They will be punished most severely." Not recommended! I guess I'll be looking for a job with benefits again.

Crooks for Christ

Desperate for some type health coverage, I gave this organization a try (understanding they do not provide actual insurance, nor make any promises to actually pay for anything). After getting my initial application fees, 1st month's premium, and other random fees, I did not receive the welcome package as promised by mail. I called several times about not having any health cards or proof of membership. Wait times to speak with a customer service rep were horrible, got a very bad feeling about the whole company, and decided to cancel my membership--which I was told upfront I could do anytime ( since they have no contracts). After receiving several more monthly statements, I called again to confirm my membership cancellation. Some specialist got on the phone telling me that I still owed them for the previous months, ect, ect. Keep in mind, I paid this group nearly a couple of thousand dollars before leaving them, never made a claim, and at the end, showed their true color. This organization is about taking your money, with nothing promised but taking your money!
