Continual problem operating hardwired blinds

We purchased over 20 blinds for our home six years ago from an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer. The blinds have been an almost continuous problem throughout this time. We definitely do not recommend purchasing Hunter Douglas blinds.

Broken product

I purchased a blind from HD for 1350.00 and it broke after 21/2 yrs. It was sent to Edmonton for repairs and returned after 15 days, still broken. I was required to pay 100.00 for shipping. It is now going to Toronto for at least 18 days for repairs. I thought HD was a high end company, I was very wrong . NEVER again will I purchase anything from this low end company.

Favorites on schedule

I have several designer roller shades with power view and remote controls. I have set several schedules for shades to open and close automatically at specific times, but I'm unable to find a way to make them close to the "favorites" position on a schedule - just all the way closed, which I don't want. Looking for a way to set their automatic closure to "favorites"!

Poor quality, bad service, way overpriced.

We equipped our home with motorized silhouette window covers. We had a worry about it because they were battery operated. We were promised that the system was not power hungry and that it would work well. None of that turned out to be true. The system is cheaply built, things break, sometimes on their own, you just see a part of the battery pack cover on the floor, broken, the controls do not work well at all, and customer service is very bad. Plus they updated the system to electrical, so now it is very tough to find support for the battery operated customers like myself. Lately, I was told to solve my technical issues on my own, as the people over the phone said that they are not familiar with my older system. 21k install, about 7 years ago, and countless issues Ridiculous.

Need pulltabs

Hotties shades by Levelor from Lowes, cannot find pulltabs to anchor on the bottom of the unit. we have ordered pulltabs from the leveler company, none of them would fit. I need 2 inch deep by 1 inch tall clips, and cannot seem to find them anywhere.

Hunter Douglas did not honor their warranty.

Do not do business with Hunter Douglas. We had some blinds malfunction after a short period of time, and despite having a full warranty (which was documented and confirmed), they refused to honour the warranty and ended up only offering us a $200 coiupon to a future purchase. Brutal. Dont do business with a company that doesnt honour their contracts!

Beware ...warranty does not cover costs

The pull 'strings' break often and getting them repaired costs LOTS of time and money ...yes, $$$$. It is an average of $175 to $300 in labor fees EACH time, because labor is NOT covered by the warranty. The part that breaks about once a year (we have 24 windows that seems to be on a rotaing break schedule) is a small plastic piece with string at cost of about $3 (at best) but to schedule the repair takes weeks/months in addition to the $$$$. We would NEVER recommend these blinds!!!

Service (if at all) takes forEVER

Count me in with those posting that this company does not stand by their "lifetime warranty". We had cordless honeycomb shades for a bunch of years when the internal mechanism failed. The original company that sold them went out of business and HD insisted we find a local dealer to work this through. That local dealer ended up charging us $85 to ship the faulty blind back to HD. They couldn't repair it, so they had to replace it, but they didn't have the original color so I had to pick something different (and then replace the other two working shades in the room so it wouldn't look stupid.) So they ship those out and we install them and six weeks in, it busted again. We said the heck with it; I ran out to JoAnn Fabrics and bought some velcro to tie it up myself. Fast forward a year: we totally re-did our kitchen so about 10 days ago I needed to order replacement brackets and was told they would be shipping out "after Thanksgiving". well, it's been more than a week and I called and get this -- just for some stinking brackets (they're not even on backorder) -- they're not going out until December 9! What, did they have to fabricate them there? It takes 3 weeks for somebody to pull these off a shelf shove them in a box and mail them out? I guess that's "after Thanksgiving." My contractor wants to finish the job and I want to have my windows covered. Not going to happen for two more weeks. Hunter Douglas, NEVER AGAIN.

Product seems nice but execution is lacking

We bought full length roller shades for our large (mostly) glass door and window. The material lets light in without being too transparent, and they look very nice. We liked that they had little "magnet cradles" to hold the shades at the bottom so when we would open the door the shades would not swing. In theory. After installing the shades, I secured the magnets as directed. Then I noticed the flaw. To get the shades to stay down you must pull the shade a little past where you want it to kind of "set the brake", then when you let off the pressure, they raise an inch or so and stop. This is fine, but I realized, how are you supposed to get the shades to stop at the EXACT point where the magnet cradles are? If they are 1/4" too high or 1/4" too low, they won't catch the shade. I looked at the instructions again and saw an option to turn the cradles over and thought this might work because it would provide a little resistance to the retractor. Nope. The retractor overpowers the magnets. So now we have very expensive and very nice-looking shades, but the hold down feature is useless. The magnets should be a 4"-5" long vertical piece, so you can pull the shades down into a "range" and the magnets would hold it once the brake is set. I am disappointed that we spent so much only to fall short in the execution of the least expensive part of the product. The three stars is for appearance only. Notice how I didn't mention that we had to order them twice and both times they were the wrong size and both times they were missing parts. The local rep was taking the first "too narrow" set back with her, so we robbed parts off those to complete my "too wide" set that we can live with. I don't know if other companies execute better, but if you can pay less for your shades, and get almost what you were promised, it might be worth it.

Shade Keeps breaking

Have a pleated shade about 8 ft. wide. 2nd time the internal mechanism and thin string broke while lifting up the shade. We rarely move the shade. Bought it at Acme Shades in Philadelphia. Keep getting different responses from the repair specialist. The shade was removed and taken out for repair. Brought back with same break. Now its sitting in our house, and whole issue is over 4 months old. Still no repair man or a fix. The shade internal parts are to delicate for the shade size. Dont buy a large shade or you'll regret it.

Reason is the cloth got torn inside and motorised remote stopped working after few months

Very bad experience and I regret spending money on a sub standard product . One curtain is not opening another is torn.

No accountability for warranty issues

As a designer I have placed H/D products in many customers homes over the years and seen first hand the evident drop in quality over the years. I believe in general that you get what you pay for except with this company. Their product is inferior and does not hold up. What is even more agregious is this companies complete lack of customer service when product failure happens within a warranty period. The sales office I gave $9000.00 in business to wanted to charge me for a trip call to the customer home to fix a broken cord that was less than a year old. When I asked to speak to the manager he was unavailable and never returned my call. Calls to head office put you on hold for unacceptable amounts of time and in three separate attempts I never got anyone to pick up the phone. Steer clear of this loser company. Their sales people are uneducated in their field and you can do a lot better going elsewhere.

Purchased a home that had these terrible blinds in it

Well I unfortunately purchased a home recently outfitted with hunter douglas remote controlled blinds. I am an engineer and this is my 11 home purchased since 2001 and all I can say is what a terrible design. First, they dont work most of time time, 99%. Second, no support. Third, when they do not work, which is the majority of the time, there is no way to manual adjust the shade, it is just stuck in the position where the fault occurred. I have spent hours trying to get these blinds to work, what a waste. The irony is this. The design is meant to save you from the time it takes to open and close a blind but yet, I never had a problem in the past and have spent less time taking care of an in ground pool. Having these blinds during the pandemic has been such a blessing because not only do they occupy a majority of my free time but they have helped me realize that expensive technology used to solve problems which dont exist is a waste of time and money! I would gladly trade this $1,265 blind in to anyone with one that you manually adjust to free up hours of my day.
