Ruining my credit score for reporting I defaulted on a loan for a fee they charged that I was not aware

I went to the credit union in 2017 and asked how much to pay off my whole balance in my Over Draft protection. They told me the amount I need to pay in full and I paid it. Since I paid it off in full, I did not use the account any longer since I use another bank for checking. A few months later I found out I have a bad mark on my credit report. I looked in detail and found out that GoldenWest reported that I defaulted on a loan as a chargeoff for $16. I called the credit union and they said that it was for the overdraft protection balance that I did not pay off. I said that I did pay it off and they said that it shows that I paid off the full balance but then there was a fee that came through a day later for a few cents or something, then they charged me a late fee for not paying it. They made no attempt to contact me that I was ever in the default. I still had a HELOC loan with them at the time and made payments to them in person all the time, and sometimes over the phone, and I had them look up my account each time to ask them how much I owed and not once did they ever mention the $16. How easy it would have been for me to pay it off several times if they just told me. I have contacted them several times over the years to see if there is something I could do to pay the $16 and get it off my credit report, and every time they are rude and patronizing telling me I should have logged in and looked at my account, and they are unwilling to help me in any way. I would not recommend them at all for just the fact they won't work with you for mistakes, they don't communicate with you well, and bad customer service as a whole. But to send just a $16 dollar amount as a chargeoff to hurt your credit for years to come when you also have another $50,000 loan with them that you are paying on time every month is just asinine and unethical. Very sickening they would do this to a member. A quick call from them telling me did I needed to pay $16 instead of sending it as a charge off would have been the honorable thing for them to do. I would highly recommend using another Credit Union. If they are willing to do this for one customer, they will do it to another.

Fees are insane

Terrible company. They allow you to use your charge card when you are short on funds in your checking. Most other card companies decline the card. They'll allow it to go through just to charge you an insane $22 fee per charge. I bought an item for $5 when I had plenty of money in my checking at 6am in the morning. The next day I purchased an item, thinking I had enough money in my checking to cover it. I was short $14 dollars. This was after noon. The next day the purchase for $5 hit my account, 2 days after I bought the item and they charged me a fee of $22 for it!! WTF?!?! I was hit with $44 dollar fee?!?!

Worst customer service i have ever experienced

It is sickening that someone like Catie Fullmer could be an " Assistant Manager" let alone even be employed there. Had the worst experience I have ever had she continued to laugh and what sounded mocking my situation when they made a mistake on my account and were trying to blame me for it. Take ownership of mistakes done! As management your job is to make things right especially when a mistake was done that was not my fault. After my interaction will be closing my acct and refinancing else where.

Pay Off

I sent my brother to make my final payment on a car loan I received from your location in Ogden since I am in military and overseas at this time. I checked online for what my payoff was and transferred that money to my brother. All was good until I went to check with my father asking if he had received the title in the mail. Guess what, no he hadn't. Why? because they said I owed .27 cents. It could of easily been taken care of by letting my brother know that was what was left if there WAS actually a .27 cents balance.

Over draft charges

I have always received great customer service at GW. But I have received over draft charges for items that all came in on the same day. There was enough money to cover 4 or 5 out of the 7 items but I was charged fees for all 7 items. Of course when I call to dispute the charges I am told that is their policy. All other banks I have dealt with only charge fees for the lowest number of items. Its seems this business practices is set up to benefit the credit Union and over charge the customers should they become overdrawn. GW needs to look at their practice and come in line with most other banks and credit Unions. Even America Frist doesn't gouge the customers like this.

GoldenWest Credit Union - Loan Review

Poor customer service. I am a member for almost 9 years. I payed a loan in the past and paying off one right now with no late payments. I moved and my banking is inconvenient, but I decided to stay loyal and I didn't change my loan for lower interest offered to me either. I noticed few days ago double charge due to equipment malfanction and called them while it was pending to stop it. The girl told me it will fall off, but I got double charged. I callec today, and the guy told me I have to go physically in to fix it. I told him I tried to stop transaction and that it's inconvenient for me to travel to the bank now. All I got, you have to go in and have a nice day. Literally. Not I am sorry or litlle sympathy. I was treated like a number that no one cares about. Maybe I should start thinking of going somewhere else after all.

Online Banking

In June of 2012 they changed their online banking format/provider, it really stinks now. I really liked my online experience before, but the new format is very unstable and hard to use. Who ever designed the UI (user interface) is an out right amateur. The bill pay is a separate site and crashes continuously for weeks on end. The inter action with support is sub par. It seems that Goldenwest employees have no idea what's going on, which leads me to believe they've contracted it out.... So that's another entity that knows my private info.... Don't like it... If I were anybody looking for a new bank/credit union it wouldn't be this one. This is supposed to be a non-profit Credit Union, well going with a budget online banking service doesn't say "non-profit".... Go with a smaller bank...

Won't release vehicle title after payoff!

Golden West Credit Union will not release the title of my vehicle because I have not paid off another vehicle that I still owe on. They are very unethical, greedy, and their customer service sucks!! They act as if they are the Gods of finance. I will never use their services again and highly recommend no else does either! They are more than willing to take your money but are unwilling to give what is rightfully yours. Again, I say, stay away from Golden West Credit Union. Their only concern is taking your money and using your assets as collateral against you!
