Pleased with product

Buying a Generac generator is a great investment, it provides great peace of mind. When our power goes off, it quietly and we never miss a beat. Get one!

Predator Company Allowing Poor Electrical Practices

GENERAC does not stand by their name, their work or their recommended electricians. Horrible experience with a company which GENERAC recommended. The installation was poor quality and not to Code. The company owed us money and refused to refund. GENERAC would do nothing to assist in obtaing our refund from the Predator / Thiefs!

1/5

Lack of accessible support, poor quality of parts, slow response times

Two inverter system (7.5kW each), with one PWRCell battery (18kW). One inverter has never worked properly since installation almost a year ago. Constantly having parts ordered to fix it. Blowing fuses, lack of internet comms. And now learned PWRView Dashboard online software "no longer supported." So data now unavailable via PC. Mobile app won't provide it for download.

BAD PRODUCT

I received another message from Generac stating they are waiting on parts to be sent to Sunova for repair. Generac warranty 25 years.

I can't get problem solved.

Solar panels and battery backup system now is going on eight months without operation. All sales should halt until problems are resolved with products that already having problems.

Solar panels are not working, battery back up not working. Installed March 26th, 2021. Did not work at all until Nov 2021. Quit again March 2022. June 16th got working again. Quit working again and as of Dec. 24th,2022. Battery back up system completely dead. Still waiting for someone to take care of system. Apparently system is 4 1/2 years old. How can that be if installed March 26th 2021.

Unreliable and useless customer service

We were stranded without our power and our thousand of dollars Genercrap died. We hand bailed water out of our sump pump at 4AM until he could get another generator hooked up. Just to plug in the sump pump. We get it maintained as scheduled by authorized technicians and it cost $700 this last year with now an estimated $956 to fix this new issue. I had to take work off today because I cant rely on the Genercrap to work, dont want a flooded basement. Cusmoer service is useless and told us to put an new battery in it, we did, thats 2 new batteries in less than a year theres nothing they will do since its a few months out of warranty. So you spend thousands, yearly maintenance fees, repair costs and it still doesnt work. About 200 hours on it and the service guy said its like new still. Something that costs that much should be reliable and last more than 5 years.

Unreliable junk

We have one, keep regular scheduled maintenance and upkeep. Its dead, basement flooding and no help from customer service. Very expensive for an unreliable product. We cant get any help and now want to charge $500 for a new battery. I could buy a new generator for $500. This company is a joke.

Horribly corrupt company

Generac has chosen to not extend any remunerations whatsoever in response to this debacle that is still going on after 6 years. They will not extend the warranty and will not even fathom the idea of giving us an offering for all of the days and weeks we went without a...

The Generac whole house generator saga will seemingly never end for us. - Bought original Generac Synergy whole house generator in 2016. Total cost of all materials and labor $12K, which included a 500 gallon propane tank, and 120+ foot gas line. - The unit began throwing an error code 1062 whenever we lost power, and that code could not be cleared so the generator could be run again until the grid power came back on. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a generator, wouldn't you say? It turns out that this is a fatal design flaw with the Synergy model, but Generac refuses to recognize that. - Generac told our service dealer of the time which parts to try replacing, but told him that he would have to pay for the replacement parts out of pocket if it didn't fix the issue. Needless to say, no parts got replaced, and we were forced to continue with the error and loss of use of our generator over the course of 5 years. - Then our service guy had health issues and had to retire, and then covid hit. We were left with no service support. - When I called Generac to finally get this straightened out, they told us we would have to pay to have a new Generac service company come out and run a "diagnosis" on it. When I clarified why that wasn't going to happen, I got passed along to no less than four different customer support reps before getting one who wanted to handle the case. - Generac paid more money to swap out various parts in the Synergy than it would have cost to simply replace it. So of course they wasted yet more money. - They finally agreed to replace our Synergy with a "new" Guardian model. - Unit was installed and immediately failed with low oil pressure. - Instead of sending us another replacement, they insisted on making us wait for them to order and have installed a brand new engine. So now we were with NO generator instead of the previous one that we could sometimes piecemeal during an outage. - The process of swapping in the new motor was NOT trivial. After seeing the complexity of it, I would have preferred yet another whole new generator. - Fast forward to Christmas Eve day. We had lost power the day before, and the generator kicked in, and we felt like we could finally enjoy some piece of mind from our big investment. I want out to check on it and came to find ALL of the motor oil drained out into the cabinet of the unit. The dipstick read ZERO oil in the block. The oil pressure gauge did NOT shut off the engine, so it ran for who knows how long with little to no oil in it. - Now the rep from Generac who was on our case, has bailed on us and kicked the can down to the next rep. Why? Because she knows that she will be listed as the primary contact for my lawyers to reach out to her with a lawsuit. This company is a TOTAL POS. I can't stress how sorry I am for falling for their *** and buying their garbage. They don't stand behind their products or their customers. Generac SUCKS!! Here are photos of the oil issue and what it looked like to replace the engine in this thing. What could possibly go wrong, right? I'm right on the edge of filing a lawsuit. Pretty sure it's going to go that way. Six plus *** years of trying to deal with these *** just to GET what I *** paid for!!!

Generator would not start when needed.

Updated by user Jan 22, 2023
Have heard absolutely nothing from GENERAC nor installer! I did find Tennessee Home Power in my home town that gave the answer.

It seems natural gas line can freeze up at low temperature.

They advise their customers to pour hot water on the gas line to thaw it out and use pipe insulation as a preventive. I now have a new dealer and service provider!

This generator was installed in March 2021, has had the annual service work and is tested once a week. But when it was needed due a power failure during a country wide cold spell, it could not get started. It tried 3 or 4 times then quit and that was all it did. The service department for the installer was closed on 12/23/22 and Generac has an extremely long "on hold" so I gave up when the utility final came back on. My advice is DO NOT BUY A GENERAC IF LIVE WHERE THERE ARE COLD TEMPERATURES.ddON

Failed generator with 15 hours

Generator failed 3 minutes after power went it from Ian. Immediately called service and got no answer. Kept calling everyday until someone answered. Was told someone would be out to look. No one came for 5 days, was told manufacturer defect part would be overnighted and repaired next day. Three days later told part wont arrive until 10/11? LTL instead of overnight? No offer of a loaner, no attempt to reach out to neighboring dealer, no communication from dealer or corporate.

Biggest piece of crap

Gave one star because couldnt give 0 stars. We purchased a home standby generator to cover 2 houses. it was installed in October 2021 and hasnt worked properly since November 2021. We now have a $22,000 piece of yard art in our yard. Generac has been replacing the same parts over and over but nothing has worked.

Electrical contact brushes .

The Factory assembled the brushes misaligned with the commutator ring and the WEst Virginia people who installed it came back and screwed it up even worst , problem is the brush holder is cheap Chinese junk and now the commutator is half chewed up causing the lights to blinking and off, the only way to fix
