Camille discriminates and is completely unprofessional

How this women is able to run an adoption center is beyond me. She chose not to adopt to my family because of a past grudge she has with a vet we went to when we had our past dogs. She wanted us to sign a waiver that we wouldn't use the vet for any of her puppies. We were actually willing to agree to that since the veterinarian has since retired, but how unprofessional of a request. She then lied to us by saying that her puppies have numerous adoption requests and she wishes us luck in finding our dog. Her puppies are still up on pet finder looking for homes. It truly is a shame that Camille is able to have this adoption center because she certainly isn't looking out for the animals best interest, only her own petty grudge gets in the way of adopting to a perfectly great family that could take care and treat the dog great. I should have looked at this site before I even bothered filling out her application as I see others have had negative experiences with her in the past. Do yourself and your family a favor and move on from Camille Oakie. Adopt from Eleveth Hour or Saint Huberts or some other reputable adaoption center.

Camille a snob!

I have rescued all my pets. They were rescued from Best Friends in Utah, A rescue in CT and shelters in both NJ and Fl. Ive always understood and respected the process. However Camille at fureverhomedigrescue in Randolph is barnone the worst "rescue" around. She posted an urgent situation regarding two senior dogs Abby and Lily in NJ. Ch 7 even covered their "desperate story". I offered to foster, foster to adopt, and even sponsor their adoption fee. I felt with the coverage, there would be alot of options so I would rescue another that didnt. But, I continually followed up on where she was with applications. When there was a week left before they would be homeless, I asked what was going on. She said she had no foster or adopters. All her applications fell thru. I right then and there filled an application. Said I would straight out adopt both. I had a lovely conversation with her. She said she was going to call my vet as soon as she hung up. She didnt and my vet was closed all of mem day weekend. She talked to them late Tues only to check if all vaccinations, etc were up to date on my cat and my late dog. They of course were up to date. I even she suggest to have a convo with my vet because she would get more insight on how i treated my pets. I gave her references. Told her to talk to my neighbors anyone. I sent pics of my home as requested where she said she would "normally do a homecheck". We were ready to take them. Especially since they were in the home alone for over two months. She then allowed both me and my 22yr old niece to meet them the day she picked them up from their home and bought them to hers in between taking them to foster. Yes, all of a sudden she had a foster that could take them for a week, max two wks. We drove an hour and fell in love. We really wanted them. I was willing to take them, vet them, get them on a proper diet with plenty of walks. Why get them in foster? She said she needed time to go thru all their applications....So again, all of a sudden now applications miraculously appeared. Then it was learning tgeir behavior in foster, Really, thought this was family? Then she told me the holdup was she needed to get them back to a vet. She took them in March when their owner passed and felt the "new vet" confused their results. Really? But then again, the 86yr old aunt confused their names on the tv video. My sixth sense kept telling me she was searching for "something better" and when i asked she denied. She said she would get back to me in a week, that was on a Thursday. She also turned off both me and my niece from commenting on her rescue page. The following Monday, i realized i was blocked from her rescue and she unfriended me from her personal page. Then the email came saying the foster family, the very one that could only keep them for a week, max two, now was interested in adopting them. So, she didnt want to make me wait but she needed to give them time for a decision..Like really? Then why block me from everything? At first i thought it was because i had a cat. Because she was so focused on that even tho i told her my Macie is fine around dogs. She also seemed to have an issue with me feeding a senior feral outside. I mean the woman doesnt rescue cats. Why?...But then going back and reading the emails, meeting her, seeing her adopters/fosters stories, and now reading the reviews, the lightbulb went on. She wants people with money. Big houses and yards. A stay at home mom. My house and yard wasnt big enough for her. We all work even tho i am in between jobs at the moment. But once i went back to work, my neighbors who have 3 dogs would have taken them out and played with them in the afternoon. It all came together. I am big on walking dogs. She claims to be. But she calls out big yard, kids, etc......Read some backstory and make your own conclusion.....These two girls were adopted as puppies to her cousin inlaw and then when he passed, her elderly uncle inlaw took them in. He had them from what I was told for like 3 yrs. The poor man also suffered from dementia before he passed. Sadly, Abby and Lily gained alot weight from too many people snacks and lack of exercise. When he passed, they were in the house alone for 3months with different people coming in and out. Mostly the 86yr old letting them in yard. Not getting walks. When we were there, we walked them. With makeshit leash. No harness,no collar. I think the "leashes" were those exercise bands. She twisted it around their neck. Which they could of gotten loose or possibly choke. Check the video on that too. If this was family and you were concerned, noone noticed the weight? The vet, if they actually saw one, wasnt concerned? Noone knew their behavior? They still werent getting walked and left alone in the home. It confirms shes about yards versus walks. And again i have a decent yard especially for 2 seniors. Secondly, i told you about the vet. In 3months, the diet still hadnt been given. She was giving them blue buffalo even after all the negative recalls. Said whoever got them would need to work with vet on diet. Like really 3months and that wasnt done either. I was willing to do anything and everything for these two. I adopted my dog as a senior. She was between 7-11 and i had her just shy of 10 yrs. I took excellent care of her and all my pets. I have excellent references. But for some reason that wasnt good enough for her. Yet, these two were ignored for how long and it was " her family". To add, she rescues puppies from the islands and other states. Thats a good thing. Im not knocking that. But why only puppies? Why not at risk seniors in a shelter? Why not pit bulls? Why not cats? Shes a farce in the sense of adopting perfect puppies and giving them to the perfect surburban family. And to me that is disgusting. I highly suggest, if you want to avoid getting your heart ripped out or getting treated in a condescending way, avoid Camille and fureverhomedogrescue and go somewhere else.

Disappointed! Camille is hurting more than helping!

I have rescued over 10 dogs in my lifetime and each one was loved and cared for throughout their long lives. Most adoption processes are warranted and I am glad to see when due diligence is done to protect the dog up for adoption. However, sometimes these rescues go a little too far. To keep this short, Camille is the owner of "Furever Home Dog Rescue" and she is clearly insane! She does not communicate well and her tone is of complete arrogance. If she really cared for the dogs and wanted to place them in a loving home, why not be communicative? She cancelled an onsite appointment 3 times and was never able to reschedule. I was also looking to adopt an older dog who clearly needed a home. I did all I could, but in the end, I went to a more reputable rescue and now have the most incredible Boxer-Mix to care for. My advice to those adopting ... Steer clear of this shady establishment! My advice to Camille ... if you truly care ... hire someone with a better ability to communicate and do better due diligence. If I ran a background check on you ... what would I find? Good luck all! Sincerely, Tom

Wonderful Experience

I absolutely understand and respect you and your rescue for setting such strict guidelines regarding the adoption of pups. Before we found FHDR, we had some rescues literally pushing dogs our way without any obvious concern for the puppy or our family. I loved the fact that you were so thorough! You demonstrated pure honesty and concern for the welfare of the puppies as well as our family. Camille, a year ago on 8/3/15 we had the absolute pleasure of adopting Balor (formerly Briley) though your rescue. Balor has brought such joy and love to our lives, we can not thank you enough for rescuing him, we consider him our first born child and our love for him grows everyday His birthday and adoptiversary are hug celebrations for our family!! Thank you for making the adoption process easy and bringing him into our family. Thank you again for all you have done and continue to do!

Good Rescue Group

My family adopted a wonderful dog from Furever home dog rescue. We decided to adopt from them since their dogs are placed in foster homes prior to adoption. They get a good idea of the dogs personality and the best possible home. That really work for us as our dog has been so great. Their adoption process was very clear it's on their website as well as in email correspondence. After we sent our application, Camille from Furever Home Dog Rescue continued communicating with us throughout the process. Camille also communicates right up front that even when an application is approved, the final decision will be made once there is a meet and greet between the fosters, the pup and the adopting family. As emotional as we were when we met our puppy, I had told my wife and daughters that we would only know for sure after the meeting. At the meet and greet, we had the chance to ask the puppies foster family questions and to play with the puppy. Furever Home Dog Rescue has adopted so many dogs over the past few years. We have seen firsthand the sincere dedication that camille has towards her pups, her Fosters and all potential adopters. She even contacts previous applicants that couldn't get the dog they wanted due to high demand when a similar one became available. When Furever Home Dog rescue has their Fosters and adopters reunion every couple years, hundreds of people and their families show up with their puppies. We all feel a part of her extended family, and will continue to support her efforts with homeless puppies. We are so grateful to Furever Home Dog Rescue!

Fur-ever Home Rescue - Review in Animal Services category

I would like to take a moment to share some experience and to recommend Furever Home Dog Rescue of Randolph, NJ. Our family has fostered creatures for Furever Home Dog Rescue, we have placed fosters with other families, we have helped with rescue activities and we have adopted family members from Furever Home Dog Rescue. Our family has been fortunate enough to volunteer and support no kill shelters and organizations on both sides of this country. I like to think I have some valuable information to share. These are my observations and feelings. Our experience volunteering with rescue organizations is extensive. We have been fortunate to assist in the rescue and foster care for over 1000 animals. Our participation has been mostly with the direct care of foster animals and this has given us access to the heart and soul of organizations of different sizes, objectives and funding. Animal rescue and animal welfare are fundamental parts of our family and we are involved emotionally and financially and directly in our commitment. This is a deep core value reflecting how we choose to live our life. Furever Home Dog Rescue, operated and fueled by Camille Oakie, has the highest rating from our family. Camille represents a manifestation of our core beliefs and she will do as much as possible to care for animals. Ultimately, the care and survival and life of animals is why we have invested our money, time and feelings into rescue and foster organizations. Camille is the person who sets the standard for our family when we consider how we can help with a creature or working with people considering adoption. Camille is, quite frankly, the compass that helps to guide our commitments and decisions with regard to animal welfare. Furever Home Dog Rescue does so much with limited resources. Camille is a champion for animals and is amazing at developing solutions which result in the ultimate objective: Animals get to live! Camille is relentless in her concern and care for creatures. Camille and FHDR keep the focus on the animals and the well being of the creatures to make sure these voiceless lives have a advocate and a champion looking out for their interests and their long term well being. Animal Rescue is tough. There are heart wrenching stories and many tears. It takes amazing fortitude to continue with this cause. It takes dedication, determination, compassion and love. Rescuing animals means you are signing up for a roller coaster ride of emotions which reach the highest levels of joy and the deepest levels of sadness. It takes a very special person to agree to this calling, to dedicate time, resources and family to calling from a higher being. Connecting the complicated pieces of animal rescue, families and rescue organizations can be complicated. Not every situation can work out and sometimes this can be frustrating. When I look at organizations trying to fulfill commitments to animals, I want the dogs to come first. Camille is one of the best people and Furever Home Dog Rescue is my favorite animal rescue organization.

Fur-ever Home Rescue - Furever Home Dog Rescue Dog Adoption Review

We adopted an amazing puppy named Dexter from Furever Home Dog Rescue on February 14, 2010. So many of the rescue groups we had reached out to failed to get back to us and we almost gave up. Camille helped us to find the perfect puppy for what we were looking for and she made the process so easy. We began fostering for Furever Home Dog Rescue in 2012 and have continued to foster since that time. Camille has a heart of gold and truly loves every dog and puppy that comes through her rescue group. We have had so many great experiences thanks to Furever Home Dog Rescue.

Great Experience

Camille, as founder of Furever Home Dog Rescue genuinely cares about every dog and family that she works with. Camille works very hard when interviewing prospective adopters looking for a new pet. Because of her process, qualified families are paired with puppies or dogs that will match well with their personalities and home life. Working with Camille and Furever Home Dog Rescue for the past three years has been a great experience for our family. Camille is a joy to work with and is always available to answer questions or assist in any way. She has developed a wonderful network of volunteers that pull together to save the lives of dogs who may not have had a chance for a healthy and happy life. Foster families are always needed so that more dogs and puppies can be rescued from shelters and placed in loving homes.

Adopt or Foster!

"My family started fostering for Furever Home Dog Rescue in 2012 and we have fostered 10 precious pups until they found their Furever homes. We have also adopted two pups through Furever Home Dog Rescue have become important parts of our family! The love that Camille has for these shelter dogs is boundless. The pups and dogs come from a high kill shelter and are placed with a foster family carefully chosen by Camille until she patiently finds them the perfect adoptive family. It is so gratifying to know that you helped to give a pup a chance at a great life plus for every pup that comes out of the shelter makes room for one more! Fostering is an incredible experience for the whole family. Contact Camille to become a foster parent you will not regret the experience

Review in Animal Services category from Lakewood Township, New Jersey

My husband and I were recently fortunate to adopt a 14 week old puppy via Furever Homes. I am surprised to read these posts; we were clearly informed that there were several applications for the pup, and that there would be a process before a decision was made. We were also informed that we could be turned down even after the meet and greet, if our family didn't seem to be a good match for this specific dog. I spoke to our vet about the extensive process, which seemed a bit much to us, but he reminded us that people who run rescue programs see the worst scenarios for these animals, so one has to understand their apprehension about giving them over to what amount to strangers. We went into this hoping for the best, but prepared for rejection. Though this ended well for us, I want to say that we spent months visiting shelters and adoption websites, in search for our "right fit". If Furever Homes didn't work out for you, please don't give up. Explore the many options out there. There are so many animals needing a soft place to land, consider that your Fur Baby is still out there, waiting for you to find them, possibly where you least expect it.

Fureverhomedogrescue Customer Care Review

I had a similar BAD experience. We were playing phone tag. She left a message stating she would call the next morning at 10:30. Never called. I left another message and enailed her the following day. I was told the previous day she told another family they could meet the dog Saturday and the dog was adopted. They need to have better procedures in place. Thanks for breaking my daughter's heart...

Should have checked the fine print - Shady, with a hint of lacking professionalism,

I wish I had found this site before being burned by Furever Home Dog Rescue. Instead, I spent a week exchanging daily emails with Camille, filling out applications, etc. Finally I was approved for a "meet and greet" and I had the audacity to ask to speak to the foster mom first. That request was declined but I was offered to ask her questions through Camille as an intermediary. Questions were asked regarding temperament, bad habits, etc. Finally we asked if we had to adopt on the spot or if we could take some time to make a decision. Answers to the questions (through Camille, again no direct contact with the foster was granted) were provided, and we were accused of having second thoughts. Ten minutes later we were told that they decided to go with another applicant and that the offer to meet and greet was now reneged. Broken hearts aside there are three particular things I find really off-putting about the experience: 1. A foster parent speaking to a potential owner just seems like due diligence, not something into which an intermediary needs to be inserted 2. The shortcut taken of NOT VISITING THE HOME (but accepting pictures, which could have been pulled of Zillow for all they know) is a big red flag of an organization that takes shortcuts. 3. The ad for the pup is still up even though they have plenty of applicants in hand - suggests a willingness to lead even more people on.

Fur-ever Home Rescue - Furever Home Dog Rescue Dog Adoption Review from Randolph, New Jersey

Furever Home Dog Rescue is very disappointed to read this complaint. The intention of my response is not to argue about who said what, or who miscommunicated. It seems in this case there was miscommunication and misunderstanding, hearts were broken, and for that I feel terrible. I fully understand the emotions involved with families looking to adopt a new dog or puppy. We do our best to inform applicants that meet our initial qualifications there is no guarantee they will be awarded the pup - until we finish our additional due-diligence, and finally after we meet in person. We take our communication with potential adopters very seriously and try not to over-promise. But with all of this communication, and much of it verbal, we sometimes hear what we want to hear. With emotions running high and young children involved, I completely understand that can happen. Rescue groups are not perfect, and some, like me that is family-run, operate with no financial contributions and use an all-volunteer network of wonderful foster families for support. For over 7 years we have found furever homes for over 800 puppies and older dogs. As good as that may be, disappointment is unavoidable as we unfortunately disappoint potential adopters every day. I feel terrible that a family was heartbroken during this process, and so sorry it didn?t work out with me. I hope that their new dog brings them the love and happiness they deserve. Camille

Fur-ever Home Rescue - Furever Home Dog Rescue Dog Adoption Review from Morristown, New Jersey

I had an extremely horrible experience with the owner of this rescue. Doesnt tell you that there are numerous applications and let's you continue emailing and inquiring as she sends responses back Then suddenly the dog has an adoption pending. Still though nothing on web site saying pending. It's very disingenuous and a scam to let people think they are actually being considered. As a rescue and foster mom, I'm saddened by these groups that either bait and switch or just don't care enough about the sensitive nature of adopting out and how the applicant might feel. It's not the fact that you don't get the dog that's so upsetting but the way the applications and adoption is handled. Very unprofessional and unacceptable

Dog Adoption Review

I would never adopt from this company. They lead you on and tear you down. I received an extremely condescending and down right RUDE email from the owner Camille. It's so unfortunate that these dogs lives depend on her because she is evil.

Furever Home Dog Rescue - RIPS YOUR HEART APART

My wife was working with Camille Oakie the owner of Furever Home Dog Rescue of Randolph NJ on the rescue / adoption of a dog. My wife had seen pictures and videos of a dog named Felicia and really felt this was a perfect fit for our family. We had just lost our beloved dog Baylee (13 years when she passed) a couple of weeks earlier and there was a big hole in our family. We decided to rescue a dog in need to offer a wonderful loving home and family. We have 3 young children who love dogs. Camille knew the pain that my wife and family was dealing with when she spoke with her about rescuing Felicia. Camille led my wife to believe that Felicia was going to be joining our family in a short amount of time. She checked with our veterinarian to find out about us. She said she would normally do a home walk through to check on how the dog would live. She asked us about our home. We described our home (about 4000 sq. feet) and our yard (a fenced in 1 acre yard). After our description she said she did not need to do a walk through of the home as based on our description there was no issue with our home. As I stated earlier Camille knew the loss my family was experiencing. She told my wife that "Our recently deceased dog Baylee was sending Felicia to us". That is a very powerful line to tell someone who is dealing with the pain of a loss and one that leaves no doubt that Felicia was coming to our family. Camille had told my wife that Felicia wasn't ready to be immediately picked up from the foster home she was staying with as she was still very young and they wanted to give another week before Felicia was ready to join a new home. Over the next few days Camille became distant. She had stopped returning my wife's emails asking about the time frame. When Camille finally responded to my wife she told my wife that she had narrowed the list of potential adoptive families down to 3 families and we were #2 on the list. We were shocked and crushed by this email. How could Camille string my family along and tell my wife that our recently deceased dog had sent Felicia to us..... and then tell us that there was another family that she had selected ahead of us??? Of course we hoped that Felicia would still come to our family but it was not to be. We assume the other family adopted Felicia and we hope she is going to have a great life. I say that we assume this because Camille did not even have the courtesy to contact us and tell us that Felicia was adopted!!! We have never heard from Camille since that day. While we believe that helping to rescue animals is a very noble and admirable thing to do, I strongly recommend that you do NOT risk or trust your heart in Camille Oakie and Furever Home Dog Rescue. An online search for Camille Oakie lists her as a Wellness/Lifestyle coach. I am assuming Camille Oakie cares about animals but based on my family's experience she does not care at all about the wellness of the human beings involved in the rescue process. There are many other rescue organizations listed online and I strongly recommend you choose another one. This situation happened about 6 weeks ago. I wanted to allow the raw emotions about how Camille Oakie treated my family to dissipate a little bit before posting our experience online. I also wanted to give Camille time to reach out to my wife to explain and apologize for what she did.... this did not occur. I post this to warn others about trusting Camille Oakie and Furever Home Dog Rescue with the wellness of your family.
