Terrible

I would not recommend these people to anyone. The movers damaged a lot of my items and destroyed my walls. One of my lamps did not arrive and they keep giving me the run around. I have moved numerous times and have used movers, but these have been the worst!!

One of the worst experiences of my life

FlatRate Moving moved me over a year ago. I have still not recovered from the damage they inflicted on me. FlatRate smashed or damaged all of my antique furniture, concealed the damage from me, leaving me to discover it the morning after the move, smashed or damaged many of my other possessions (china, glassware, art works, books, floor lamps, etc.) and failed to move all of my things. When I returned to my former apartment two days after the move to clean it, I discovered that FlatRate hadn't packed and moved all of the food from my cupboards, all of the china and glassware in my dishwasher, all of the supplies under my kitchen sink and numerous other items. (I had paid to have FlatRate pack and move me.) So I had to pack these things myself and find a way to move as many of them as I could. I had to leave a lot behind. I became severely ill as a result of all of this with a bad cold that turned into a month of bronchitis. FlatRate never fixed or made good on what they broke though I spent hours on the phone with various people from FlatRate -- who never called me back. I have been ill and so depressed that I couldn't work because of what FlatRate did to me. Avoid this company.

Their Truck Slammed the Back of my car but it was my fault?

I have never given Flat Rate moving my business nor will I ever give them my business after a terrible experience I had approximately 1 week ago. I was driving in front of a hotel going straight, specifically right beside the lobby entrance, when a Flatrate Moving Truck without looking or stopping drove out of the intersecting street that connected the hotel parking lot to the 7/11 and rammed into the back of my car. The driver stated he wasn't paying attention and refused to give me any of his insurance information (Hence withheld his information), and luckily i was able to the pictures attached to my review to get the companies contact information. The accident was impossible for me to avoid due to not being able to see the driver pulling out because he was behind my car as you can see where the damage is and the driver pulling out and pinning my car between the curb that housed the ottoman of the hotel lobby. This is the first accident I have ever been in and the cops were not contacted due to this occurring in a parking lot and I thought they couldn't do anything because its private property (I wish I would have called them). This whole event led to me trying to contact the company and get it resolved over the next week but no one ever reached out to me via phone only email. 2 of the first emails I received was from their paralegal which stated she still had to talk to her supervisor, and the third one stating that after talking to their driver it was all my fault and that they would not be settling my claim. Needless to say I am getting screwed over by them all because I didn't contact the police. If the police were contacted I very likely would not be in the situation I am in now. I just want to warn anyone who uses this company to be careful. They obviously don't care about the mistakes their employees make and in my opinion will not work with any problems you may have. They are just lucky the driver wasn't going faster and didn't kill me because it very likely could have happened under different circumstances.

Flat Rate Moving in Miami is NOT to be trusted

We moved from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles area. Company gave a 14 business days window for move-in with 24 hours notice. I called as soon as we closed the house and begged them to deliver sooner but they said it was not possible. I just had to wait. Yet, they did not give us 24 hours notice and showed up at my new home on 3/31. I was at work and we need pest control first, so I refused the delivery. They called and left a voice mail and then email said I need to pay extra $1100 for a re-delivery. It is so outrageous and it is still not resolved as of April 12. I have been sleeping on the floor and refused to be blackmailed.

Moved from SF to Miami

MONEY WASTED!!!! NEVER USE!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE! All of our boxes were damaged - they piled boxes on top of boxes - furniture what ever it was no regard of label (Breakables/Fragile) - They quoted me a price on Blankets - then charged me more - This has been our worst moving experience - even day labors or non professional movers care more about our stuff than these guys!! Once they got paid they could care less about your stuff or furniture - do your self a favor pay a little more and use a better more reliable company that will actually care about your personal belongings! I thought we had done a great choice based on the crew in SF - but we were WRONG!!

Review in Transportation and Storage category from Key West, Florida

STAY AWAY! . They take a $500 deductible from the total amount they will give back to you once you file the claim. When I spoke to the sales person Emanuel who was horrible, not once did he go over the insurance or offer it to me. When I received the contract and got to the part that says you will not be taking insurance out on your move I called him back he literally said " oh you want insurance?" *** yes I want insurance on the move. 2nd in 1 section they say they do not accept jewelry etc.I have copy and pasted what the claims department emailed me back about my stolen jewelry. I have yet to find that section. The sales & movers go over everything with packing, but yet not person went over that section. Why? I would think it's a big thing to verbally discuss with the customer. They also do not have a part where you sign just like the insurance part saying you have read and understand that the above is not excepted unless you tell them. Ask them for the pricing of the weight of the boxes. STOLEN PROPERTY. It was a HUGE mistake to pack jewerly and I should of known better but it happen. If the whole shipping box was not returned I can't get mad at Flatrate Bc at least 3/4 boxes for yours plus furniture will guarantee not be returned. But I had gotten the box back. As I was unpacking it I found a lose ring inside the clothes i packed on top of my Jewlery box and another box that was securely wrapped in painters tape. Odd? Right? The 2 boxes had the tape completely removed you could still see reminses of the tape. all my rings (besides the one I found lose in the clothes) were gone, my earrings. The brown moving box had clearly been retaped. Actually majority of my boxes looked retaped. I'm an idiot Bc when I first got them back I thought the movers had to tape them more securely. I was wrong. A few beauty products had been stolen as well that were unopened yet the box they came in came back to me. They said file a claim. I did. Between broken furniture, missing furniture etc i filed $7,000 in property. With pics, websites showing the price of everything I owned. Below is a full copy of the email I got back from claims. Dear Elizabeth, Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that you may have experienced with your recent move. The missing items have been processed based on the terms of the Bill of Lading; section 5 indicates if a container packed by shipper (owner) is lost and shipper has chosen valuation coverage, carrier will only accept liability base on the estimated weight of the container multiplied by $3.00 per pound for replacement cost value. I have enclosed copies of your Move Plan. Flatrate Moving destroyed everything we owned

Almost everything we owned has been destroyed as a result of a moving truck fire during our move with Flatrate. Since then, their claims and customer service has been horrible. They have failed to respond to our questions and refused to provide us with documents or details regarding the incident. All they have told us to date is to assume a total loss. When they finally granted access to their facility, we discovered that our goods were comingled with the goods of two other customers in a pile that has not yet been sorted. The pile includes burned items, dirt, ashes, and recognizable, but now unsalvageable, items like family photographs.

Flat Rate Moving International Moving Service Review from Horrane, Queensland

Updated by user May 22, 2016
Avoid company at all costs, poor communications, delivered late, refused to discuss compensation, rude staff

Original review May 07, 2016
Appalling customer service and poor performing removalists. Paid a premium for air freight for a international moved (assured two week delivery) almost six week later goods arrived, poor communication throughout, no update on delay, still no compensation despite me having an empty rented house at destination in anticipation of delivery. Management refuses to engage on compensation and repeatedly with out right lie to you. Would very strongly advise never using flatrate.

Flatrate Destruction Services

They destroyed nearly everything they touched and paid for none of it. They have been giving me the run around for over 8 months now. Worst moving company ever. Way to be jerks while I'm mourning the loss of loved ones. I hope you can't sleep at night thinking of all the lives you have ruined for your greed. I have tons of pictures, and I followed their instructions for submitting a claim. They told me to email the claim form to claims@***.com but it said it can't accept the file because it is too big! They have the email set up so you can send the form in, let alone the pictures. So I mailed it to them and now they say that my claim is invalid because it wasn't "immediate." Well, fix the email so it can get there immediately. The BBB was no help, so we will see if the FTC has any teeth. Full details and evolving story at: http://flatratedamage.waltmoorhouse.com/

Flat Rate Movers in Washington, DC

I had a similar experience in DC, only worse. My wife met the movers who told her they expected a $600 cash tip upon loading the truck. Once everything was moved to Denver, most of the furniture was damaged with scratches, holes or broken corners (tables and dressers), broken couch, dishes and lamps. Estimated $3,000, damage, mostly to furnishings less than 1 year old. We had purchased the move insurance which was limited to a $200 claim payment. They finally agreed to pay $400 and would never return our calls from their claim center in NY. Not to mention the 20% cash tip paid at the point of pick-up in DC.

Flat Rate Moving - Moving Service Review from Sparta, Georgia

The movers were 30 mins late, told us they don't move lamps, tried to space our things so far apart that we'd have to make 5 trips. Jeff lied & sd he wud hv 4 guys, only had 2. We told them we had a lot of things; about 7 rooms of stuff. Made 1 trip, didn't move all our things. Still had to rent another truck the next day and move the rest ourselves. MONEY/TIME WASTED!!!! NEVER USE!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE!

Horrible Experience

They are extremely unprofessional and costly and unreliable. I only had 15 items to be delivered not even a studio size flat. 15 items and and 3 items went missing and I lost my over 4000 thousand dollars. I would not use this company ever again in my life. Their claims different took months to come back to me and hardly offered NOTHING. Even if you get insurance. NO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I only sent things that were of value of to me and they lost it.

Flat Rate Moving - Moving Service Review from Fort Lauderdale, Florida

If you must use flat rate moving company please purchase additional insurance! Have EXTRA CASH in hand for all of the surprise expense AFTER you stuff gets loaded in the truck. They start misleading you from the first conversation all the way to losing your items and delivering broken items and chanfing your delivery date! ! Once they pick up your furniture and boxes, suddenly no one is available to speak with you. After you have discovered the lies about the pricing and delivery, you can leave messages for someone to return your call. When its all done, you will receive one hundred dollars to cover cost of broken furniture and missing furniture. They will take NO responsibility and offer NO apologies! Someone may even remind you that you was offered the additional insurance which you declined and now regret.

IF YOU VALUE YOUR BELONGINGS, DON'T HIRE FLATRATE!

When I arranged this move with the coordinator in NY - who, by the way, was efficient and a pleasure to work with - I told her there were some large and/or oddly shaped items I didn't know how to pack properly. After giving her a complete list of those items, we agreed that the movers would see to them on the day of the move. Everything seemed to go perfectly, and I couldn't have been happier. UNTIL... My belongings arrived in Chicago, and I found that the only item of furniture I'd moved - a 3-drawer wood file cabinet, which had survived some 20 years without so much as a scratch - was destroyed, as were 2 cast iron kettlebells and 3 other items. I can't even begin to imagine the kind of force and abuse it took to shatter the outer layer of the kettlebells! It boggles the mind. When all was said and done, my claim was calculated by weight, not value, and I was informed I'd receive $120 for more than $500 in damages. This despite the fact that EVERYTHING THAT WAS DAMAGED HAD BEEN PACKED BY FLATRATE'S MOVERS! When a company does not hold itself accountable for its own employees' negligence, my suggestion is LOOK ELSEWHERE. My biggest mistake in this whole experience - other than hiring Flatrate, of course - was tipping the movers BEFORE I'd unpacked. Had I not done so, I would have at least saved the cost of replacing the items they destroyed. Live and learn.

Flat Rate Moving - Moving Service Review from New York, New York

The New York City location is the worst. They lie to the customer's by creating a out of this work experience like "the truck had engine failure" or " the driver ran off a cliff and had a stroke" in order to substantiate why your items will be delivered late. They lie to you from point of sale thru follow up on your delivery. Im sure there are customer's who experience an effortless move but trust that those are few and far between. Flatrate moving hires contracted truck operators to complete most of their deliveries and of course that's an epic fail.
