Stay away

SCAM, avoid at all cost. Their called "engineer" tried to unclogged the toilet with a plumger for few minutes and then decided to charge me £760 to do the job! I refused straight away called their office and they claimed that they need to remove the toilet and use a Picote and needed to come back on Monday and would charge £156.00 for the visit that would be deducted from the £760! I argued why their "engineer" didn't notice the accessible pipe on the side of the toilet. Promptly they decrease the price to £350+vat. Even then I refuse to pay that amount and the visit charge. Then they somehow managed to get the owner phone number and threatened him to pay the £156. Later the same day I called another company and they used a snake, removed few baby wipes, 10 minutes job done for £70+vat. It is really not a serious or thustyworth company. Stay away.

Waste of my day.

I called First Response as I had a blocked toilet upstairs. When the plumber arrived he didn't even know what he was there for. I said it was a blocked toilet, so he went to his van and got a plunger, which didn't do a thing. I was promised a jet hose to clear it, but he said he couldn't do that. He said he would phone his office to let them know what the situation is and would get back to me. When my daughter looked for his van, he had driven off with no contact at all. I have called another company that said they can fix it no problem. I certainly wouldn't recommend First Response to anyone, and judging by the reviews on here I'm not alone.

Not reliable; poor customer service

I called them and I was given a two hour slot. The engineer called to say he will be late to which I said fine. He called again to say he will be very late and again I said fine. He did't show up. Next day I called the office and asked if someone can come that evening. They I would have to pay premium rate because it will be after normal working hours. I said I won't pay premium rate because the original booking was during normal working hours. They then they will investigate what happened and get back to me. I waited six hours and nothing happened. I called them again and they said I should them five minutes to speak to the engineer and then they will call me. No one called me. In the end I had to call another company and they turned up promptly.

Very helpfull I am a single landlady and I was in safe hands

A tenant in my property rang me at 5 o'clock to complain that the drains were blocked and as there is only one toilet in the property and I had never experienced this before I found this company on the internet the woman on the phone went through the prices and asked if I would like them to find out what had caused the blockage as I don't live there They arrived on site and cleared the blockage at a cost of £156 the work was completed that night I received a call from the man clearing my drain and he told me the problem was caused by wet wipes ( used by the tenants ) I was very happy with the service good value

Great Service! Engineer very patient.

I called First Response at 9.00am one particular morning, due to raw sewage flooding my patio, I was obviously very upset by this. A gentleman answered the call. He was patient, understanding and immediately put my mind at ease. He assured me he could assign an engineer to me within an hour. I explained that I was at work but that my partner was coming home on his lunch break between 12.00-12.15. He booked the engineer to call within that time. Unfortunately, my partner didn't arrive home until 12.30. The engineer was very understanding and did not complain. He located a blockage in the rear drains, which he cleared within 20 minutes using rods. The charges were very acceptable and my patio left clean. I will be using First Response again, should I have any further issues. Thank you First Response, you will be recommended!! Jane Elstree

Quoted £160 but charged me £400

I need a CCTV check of the drains of a house I was buying. I compared quotes and First Response gave me a cheap quote to have a CCTV check of drains, never mentioned the possibility of extra runs except for a general email with all sort of prices on it. On the day, once my husband has taken half day off work to be there the engineer said the house has extra run and so in the end we had to pay £460 for the CCTV report. I couldn't do anything at that point. It's easy to give cheap quotes and then rip you off like this. Maria-Jose

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE/Chronically late/Dodgy Service and Support

I bought a new toilet recently and then had a problem with it getting blocked. I phoned this company and was assured someone would come at a particular time. No one showed up for about 2 hours. Then when he arrived it seemed that it was sorted. 5 days later and the toilet again was blocked and the company refused to rectify the problem without me paying again. When the engineer arrived he then quoted a price higher than I originally was quoted, refused to guarantee that the work would resolve the problem (on a new toilet) and the stormed off saying that either I would have to pay the inflated second fee in a week or that he was leaving. Despite being 2 hours late he said: "I don't have time for this." and left yelling at me and leaving the toilet as is. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Tried to rip me off.

Was quoted £25.80 per half an hour for brush cleaning and £65 per half hour for pressure wash. The cleaner arrived at 12.10 and had a quick look at the toilet and with out trying said that it will needed a jet wash. I think brush would have cleared it. So I asked how much and he said it would take 2 hours so £130. I said that could only pay for 1/2 an hour as I only had £65. He said he would try. hooked up the hose to my tap and went to the van and was doing some paper work for 10 min. Came back and at 12.23 put the jet wash down the toilet. 15 min later he was done. Apparently I was very luck it cleared so easily. He packed his equipment and started doing my paper work. After he had taken my card details and charged me for half an hour he looks at his clock and it is 12.50. He then say oh I need to charge you for another half an hour. After a bit or arguing I say to him sorry but I said to you I could only pay for half an hour and that is what I will pay. He was not happy and said " don't call us again" at which point i should have said " I wont and i'll tell everyone not to call you as well." Call your local water board and avoid being ripped off.

Time wasting to increase hourly rate, poor service, felt cheated

I have been in the restaurant business for 20yrs & can spot the genuine and the non. The Engineer arrived late booked 2-3pm he came 40mins, parking is difficult(after4pm well you arrived 3.40.) he says if he gets a ticket I will have to pay for it, I say then let reschedule as I need to reopen at 5pm " response, well I'm here I might as well start should take an hour using jets". He wanders around, sits down and starts to do things at 4.15,I opened the manhole, I moved the equipment and everything was at snail pace. Job took 2 hrs,a lot of waffling&wasting time. Thames water got it done in 20mins last time using rods.He didn't even want to try with rods. Apparently what I saw was a miracle. I had to close business for that "extra cleaning time" till 6pm rubbish.. Clearly milking it,kept asking for my card details which made me feel very anxious and uneasy.. I will avoid them and return to Dynorod. He even had the cheek to ask us to cook him food, took a drink and a chocolate bar.£312 for a job that should have taken half the time and cost half the money, I feel cheated & unhappy with the manner & professionalism of this engineer and the company he represents. I Really despise companies that feel it is ok to rip off or patronise the public, I don't need u to draw me diagrams and show me this that and the other. I want u to get the work done honestly and efficiently. This company clearly has no conscience. Avoid avoid avoid

Booked drain clearance, driver turned up, drove off without a word

Booked a drain clearance from FIRST RESPONSE today. Wanted to share how dreadful their service was to warn others. The "engineer" (i.e. drain clearer) turned up late. Asked for a parking permit. We don't have a car so I directed him to a pay and display bay 10m down the road, and waited for him to come back... I waited, and waited... finally I rang him back to discover he'd driven off without letting me know, as he'd decided the job "wasn't worth my while" - and was *** and rude on the phone! We're now left with a flood at the front of the house, and I've wasted the morning waiting in for this guy. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY! BE WARNED!
