Review in Transportation and Storage category from Mount Laurel, New Jersey

Greeting's! My name is Melinda Moses! I signed a contract with first call movers May 2013 w/ Rep.Steve Labell with a deposit of $830.00! Pick up date 6/27/2013 from Buford Ga. With another &830.00 fee First Delivery Date 7/2/2013 To Newark Delaware & My furniture was never delivered after the 30th business day & never left the warehouse in ga. I called first call movers over 30 times & spoke with different representatives...Ron, Sam, Kimberly & Steve Labell as well as other reps. Cody who originally picked up my furniture spoke back & forth with me over 30 times promising my furniture delivery but never Carried out the promise. Finally in August with no furniture I had to have Cody put my furniture in storage still in Ga. Cody noticed my Marble dining room table base was missing & promised to deliver it to me ASAP but never carried out his commitment! I did an inventory of my furniture and noticed along with my marble dining room marble base missing was 3 pieces of Art work 2 boxes one with my china & a box with my blender & other kitchen property. My brand new LG front load washer & dryer has dents throughout as well as my glass end table totally damaged! I would like my refund of my 2 deposits because the contracts were never carried out as well as being reimbursed for my damaged & missing property. I was treated unfair & mislead by First Call Movers as well as scammed! First call movers never carried out or abided by the contract & I as well lost very valuable property!

Requesting a refund

To Whom It May: My name is Diana Clay, Job #B543****. On 1/19/2013, I submitted a quote for relocating services. Spoke with AJ Keaton and booked and locked in price quote. I was also advised to make a deposit, to keep that rate. I received a called from one the representative. After speaking with him, getting a price quote, it seems like a great price. I placed a called in April to change my date for a early date. After speaking with several representative, I was told they did everything only to find out later that was not the true. At this time I'm requesting a full refund. I was giving misleading information, and no longer in need of your service. Thank you,Diana Clay

Awful Experience

I got my stuff with a big hole on my coffee table, damages and missing pieces of my day bed. We filed a claim and the answer is DENIED why ? "No notations noted on the delivery documents" Although on the same day we called the company and ask for what we need to do, they told us to file a claim and we did but after 1 week we received the letter that all claims are denied. When first time we called the time about the claim (the day we received our stuff) they told us the process is taking like 2-3 months but i do not understand the reason why i received the response in 1 week it was obvious that they did not want to pay even if it is their fault. Plus to reach a person in charge is a miracle in this company. He or she is never in the office.

First Call Movers Stole My Belongings

First Call Movers representative Jillian lied to me about the binding estimate and the cost of transporting my furniture. The movers arrived late, packed my belongings on their small rented Penske truck, then informed me that instead of 636 cubit feet, I was now 1000 cubit feet and that instead of my final balance being $505, it was now $1426, and that if I wanted my belongings back I had to sign a new estimate. This is a clear violation of the law. Now, I have made over 70 attempts to call First Call Movers, but I am either put on hold for long periods of time and then the phone simply hangs up or I'll get a pre-recorded message stating that the company is currently closed. Keep in mind I call during their stated operation hours. As of today, I have not heard from anyone at (FCM), I have no idea where my belongings are, and I have to wait after the 17th before I can proceed to seek legal action against this fraudulent company. They are crooks in my opinion and should be put in prison, especially Jillian, who seems to be the owner or one of the owners of the brokerage scam company.

Worst "Movers" Ever!

Our move from Texas to Washington has been a NIGHTMARE. While our "binding" estimate was $1369.35 we ended up paying $2,250.00 on this move. They told us that our furniture would arrive in approximately a week. However, it took close to 40 days! We were unable to reach anyone to figure out where our furniture was or when it would arrive. When we called, we would be forced to listen to horrible hold music for about 30 minutes or given a number to call with a voice mailbox that was full. It has been terribly frustrating! Since we thought this company just took off with our furniture, we sent a legal demand letter demanding the immediate delivery of our furniture and a full refund. Two days later, our furniture magically appeared. HOWEVER, upon delivery, the driver told us that we had to sign a release form, waiving our rights to a refund, lawsuit and making us promise NOT TO WRITE ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY. The movers told us that they had never seen anything like this, and that it was crafted especially for us since we were posting online complaints You can see this crazy waiver at http://www.facebook.com/firstcallmovercomplaints We refused to sign, as this was not part of our original agreement. However, the movers refused to deliver our goods without our signature. We even got the cops involved over this unlawful behavior! We plan to seek legal action without a FULL REFUND. If you are have similar problems with this company, please email firstcallmovercomplaints@***.com. We would love to get the word out about this scam of a company. In sum ...go elsewhere! This company is full of CRIMINALS!!

Amarillo to Chardon OH

Driver arrived in unmarked truck went over instructions and proceeded to load furniture and then announced he would not take all items listed on inventory. Left HALF of the inventory refusing to take any more. His reason? The people at First Call don't know how to do their job and can't figure correct cubic feet and we were over the allowed limit. Some items arrived dented such as appliances. We already paid a big down payment before he arrived. I contacted company and NO response from them. We have to hire someone else to get the rest of the furniture in Texas. Do not use this service. It is a waste of money and nothing but stress and disappointment.

First Call Movers- A RIP OFF

NEVER USE THIS COMPANY! First Call Movers basically post your move at any TRUCK STOP and anyone going that way can do the job! They have no idea who these people are and there is no background check or drug test required! Basically any EX-***, Rapist, or Thief can pick up your move!!! The movers that showed up were unprofessional, unhelpful, misleading, and Rude! Only 1 of them spoke English!! They abandoned the moving job after going around and around with dodgy answers and excuses for 2 hours refusing to assist us in moving our stuff unless we payed THREE TIMES the amount of the original estimate. They accused First Call Movers of having an error in our estimate. They continually insisted that we pay ~3x our original estimate to move all our items, even after we insisted we did not want to move all items. They refused to do any due diligence in measuring our items to determine our actual cubic footage. They were unable to tell us what we would be able to make fit even after we tried numerous combinations of items, including only the bare necessities of a bed, dresser, and love seat! I spent 2 hours on the phone with First Call Movers and went through each item I was moving with measurements but, they said there was nothing they could do since they are just the broker AND REFUSED TO GIVE US BACK OUR $600 DEPOSIT. They knew that we had only a 24hour window to make the move happen and claimed they could send out some more random people to move our stuff within 72 hours. I cancelled the move an waited 30 days to see if they would refund my deposit and they REFUSED. When I was booking it they were extremely pushy and assured me as long as my items were listed the estimate would NOT change! They also claim they don't go by the Pound which is a LIE!!!!! NO major Moving company requires a deposit!!! This has been an absolutely disgraceful show of professionalism (really none) and a complete breakdown of very simple communication and the things our binding agreement explicitly states will be non issues. They sucker you in with a low estimate and have some sales person butter you up and assure you that they want you to have a great move but it's a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIrst Call Movers - Bad choice

I wish I had read all these complains here (as well as in other sites) before I used First Call Movers (FCM). They are experts in "bait and switch" - they "lock you down" with the promise of discounted rates, while they know you are in the process of reviewing quotes from different companies. Then, when you're already committed, and have no other choice, they jack up the price. Whatever discount they supposedly gave you in the beginning does not matter in the end. I stuck to my inventory list to a T - made no additions whatsoever - in fact, I am even 3 boxes short from the inventory list - and yet, the moving company FCM used (FCM is only a Movers broker firm) came up with double the estimate on the day of the move. At that point, I no longer have any choice as I had to move out of the apartment. After this experience, I see no reason to use a movers broker firm. And most importantly, I DO NOT recommend First Call Movers for any kind of move.

Moving company rip off

First Call Movers When I made the contract with them to move my mom’s things from NC to Tampa, FL I was given a price and told that if I paid by credit card then the price would be locked in for the move. She, Jillian I think was her name, said that they needed a complete inventory of the contents of the home. I was able to provide a count when my brother got there (NC) a few days later. When I gave Jillian the correct amounts (counts) she re-worked the price and we agreed on it, I charged the fee to my mom’s credit card as she wanted and she sent me the contract. I told Jillian that I wanted to be very clear on the costs because I had heard about companies that up the prices. She informed me that all was well and “if you missed a few boxes or something like that it would be ok as long as most of the count was correct.” I was contacted via email from First Call to verify the inventory which I did and told them that there was no one in the home, the inventory had been done by my brother, and that I would have someone there to open the house when the truck got there. I hired someone to sit at the house because mom had been moved to Florida the week before. Movers were to be there at 10-10:30 am load and get out. My sitter was to clean the house after they left because closing was the next Monday, four days away. I got a call from my sitter at noon saying that the truck was not there yet. I called the company, First Call, and advised requesting information one the truck and the driver. I received a call from the driver that he was running late and would be there around 1pm. He told me that he did not know that the house was in the mountains and it was causing him the delays. (If your pickup address is Western North Carolina I would think that you would know that is mountains. I would also think that is you are a professional driver as he later told me you would know that you’re driving into the mountains.) At 2pm I got a call from my sitter that the driver had arrived without a trailer and that he had spent about 5 minutes in the house, he was now outside making phone calls. I received a call from the driver stating that there was “way more in the house than he was told and before he could load the cost would go up from $3000 to $6000.00. I informed him that I had provided a complete listing of the contents of the house and I had a CONTRACT price to which he informed me that in his professional opinion I must have not accounted for everything in the house. I informed him that I would NOT pay him $3000.00 more and told him that I would call the company. I called First Call Movers and explained what I needed. I was placed on hold. After 30 minutes I hung up and called back only to be placed on hold again. After 15 min I called back again and told the person answering the phone to NOT put me on hold again, that I need to speak to someone right now, that there was a driver at the house. I was again placed on hold. Finally someone came on to explain to me that the driver was a professional and he KNEW what was in the house. This person was “sugar sweet” and explained to me that someone must have come and put more things in the house or that I “made a large mistake” on the inventory which “ is understandable honey, happens all the time”. I informed her that this was BS and that I had worked hard to prevent this from happening by following the rules, which they were not. She said she would contact the driver. I received a call from my sitter informing me that the driver had gotten his truck stuck and she said, “I think he just blew up his engine because he is blowing smoke out”. (The truck had to be towed out via wrecker.) I received a call from First Call to inform me that the driver was stuck and that I would have to pay $3000.00 more because they now would have to hire a crew to shuttle the contents of the home to the truck. So a $3000.00 move is now $9000.00. I informed First Call that I would NOT pay that, it was not my problem the truck got stuck and that two other movers had gotten in and out without problem when mom moved before and then back again. I informed First Call that they were fired. The next day my brother and son and I drove 12 hours up, rented a truck from Uhaul loaded and drove back to Florida. I called First Call after writing a letter informing them that I required a refund of the $1200 and change. It took 4 tries before anyone would talk to me and I was informed that I would hear from “someone” soon. I got a letter from their lawyer telling me that I would NOT get a refund because in the contract it states that I have to cancel 7 days before the pickup. (Got me there and I see now that is how they can do this and keep your money.) I wrote back and I told him that “had I known 7 days prior to pick up that you were going to pull this we would not be having this conversation”. I contacted the credit card company and informed them of what had happened and what was going on. They said they would investigate it and let me know. They refunded my mom the monies spent on the fees. Because of First Call Movers my 82 year old mother was put in a very stressful situation not to mention my stress to make it right in the very short time I had, it cost for us to go to NC, rent a truck, fuel that truck, meals, hotel and time lost from work for three of us. We had to make the move within two days because the closing on the house was only two days away. Had we not spent 30+ hours awake the closing would have fallen through, the house would not have been sold and we would have had to move mom back to NC again. I have to question things like: why when I wanted to get a mover they bent over backwards to help me – when I had a problem I was repeatedly put on hold for a great deal to time – why the driver was allow to jack up the price – why the price jumped $3000 each time, not 50 not 100 but $3000.00? I do now understand the 7 day clause. JBlondin

Unprofessional and very rude. I wish I saw the Today Show before calling...

I called to get a quote on how much it would be to move my things. I explained I was on a tight budget and the man on the phone was very helpful. He took me to their BBB website to show me how well they were doing in comparison to many other companies. THIS WAS WRONG. He failed to mention the other BBB website that contained all the complaints. He explained to me that he was so proud of the company BBB site because they only had 6 complaints, but you can only access that site a certain way. I decided to google First Call Movers to see what some other review were. That's when I found the other BBB website with an F rating, 165 complaints in the past 12 months and an alert was placed on their page. So when we call back to cancel our deposit after looking at reviews, (they said we have a week to do so)the lady on the phone thought she put the phone on hold. Well, she didn't and they began to talk about me, cussing and carrying on. I never authorized the payment, yet it was still taken out of the account. It has yet to be refunded and I have called about it but they just keep pushing it under the rug. I wish I had seen this video from the Today Show before I called them... http://www.today.com/news/couple-say-moving-company-held-their-belongings-hostage-6C1080****

The Scam of First Call Movers

First Call Ventures did not move our furniture. They told me that they personally would be moving our furniture and that they went back and forth from Ohio to Florida several times a week. I told them that I did not have a closing date set for our new home when I called. They said it was not a problem and noted on the estimate that I had not yet set a date. They said that they would just use a random date for their system but to call and they would change it. They asked me about the house and said they had a “formula” to use based on the square footage and rooms in the house. They then asked me to name all the large furniture in the home which they would add to their formula. That is how they gave us the moving quote. I called First Call Ventures when we were ready to move out because we had renters at our Ohio home moving in and we did get a date set for closing on our Florida home. They told me they had subcontracted the work and the movers would be there 1/23/2013 first thing in the morning. I called to confirm this date two days before the move. We were already living in Florida but had family at the house to meet them but no one showed up. I called First Call Ventures and they said the movers were on the way and if I had any questions to call Glass City Movers. I called the subcontracted movers, Glass City Movers and they said they had an order but it was cancelled and never rescheduled. I then asked if they would be able to get out to the house to move that day because our renters were moving in 1/25/2013. They said that they could not come out that day but could schedule with me to come out the next day. I scheduled Glass City Movers to come the next day 1/24/2013. The day after we had told our renters the house would be available for them to move in. Our renters had their furniture in another moving truck waiting for us to pack up so they could move in. All of this was told to both First Call Ventures and Glass City Movers and was then used against us. When Glass City Movers came out they said that they would not do the move for the price quoted and said that they would charge an additional $3510.05. This was over double the estimate. I called First Call Ventures and they said they there was nothing they could do. I then, over the phone, talked to Glass City movers and told them that we had two other estimates that were close to the original estimate and I would call and see if the other companies were available because we could not afford the price gouge. They were rude and bullying my family that were at the house and told me if I hung up the phone they were leaving and not coming back. So Glass City Movers made us sign a new contract with them at the new price. What did first call Ventures do for us? They took $1323.00 from us with the agreement to move our furniture for $3510.05. They did not move us. They did not get us someone who would move us for the price quoted and they did not have movers even show up when they were scheduled. I tried to work with First Call Ventures and Glass City Movers but it was clear that they did not want to work with me. As soon as First Call Ventures took my $1323.00 they did nothing. When I called the company to complain they refused to talk to me and when I asked for an owner to talk to they said they did not have an owner. I asked who they were held accountable to and they said no one. I paid directly to Glass City Movers $3,303.83 on 1/28/2013 and another $2,773.54 on 2/11/2013 out of my Chase account. They were rude, through an open bag of grout in a box with our couch cushion, put collectables in a used trash bag, ruined our dining room table, and lost pieces to set up our bedroom furniture. But they did move us unlike First Call Ventures that just took our money in a scam. After we had difficulties with First Call Ventures I found several complaints on the web that showed similar experiences. This company is scamming people. They said that they would not honor their quote because it was not a contract but refuse to give me back my money because it was a contract??? What does that mean??? No resolution!!

First call movers

When I first contacted Kevin Brown who is a customer service representative he made everything sound so nice and uncomplicated. They apparently gave me a good price and discount so i thought i would go with them after thinking about it for a few days i decided to go with this company. I then got a call saying that if i have any extra stuff i would be charge extra and we did have some loose items that we thought of later, they wanted to charge 300 dollars more . I then accepted not to take the extra stuff so we wouldnt complicate the move. well i guess they werent happy because i said i didnt want to spend more money. These people already knew the size of my storage and i agreed to give them a deposit of 443.49. They called again trying to reconfirm the move this time telling me i would have to pay 50% of the balance when they picked of my items in Columbia ,Pa clearly knowing i would not be there and that my sister would open the storage for them, they then said i needed a power of attorney ,thats where i drew the line and thought this is going to spiral into a nightmare money pit. They had initially told me i would pay the balance when i received my things, but they dont honor their word and they keep passing you to different people a Catherine called me ,a nicole called me ,a Kat called my husband and a Julian sent me this power of attorney to sign which by the way is also authorization to pick up and deliver your things. At the end i spoke to this man Julian and he gave me Randi email who is the refund person of contact. So story short These people are unprofessional people who do not know anything about customer service. They refused to give me the owners name.and ripped me off for 443.49 withought lifting a finger. This Kevin Brown never emailed me back to fix the situation ,they keep passing you to different people .Dont sign anything and do not try to do any business with them they are ***-artist!!!

SCAM ARTISTS!

I had a detailed inventory and a timeframe for my relocation. No one showed up during the timeframe. First Call claims to have reached out to me but I have no missed calls or messages. Furthermore, nothing needed to be "packed". Everything was bubble wrapped and taped accordingly. I was overcharged for boxes and tape. When delivery came, my boxes were opened and missing valuables. The driver dropped off the crew and none of the crew spoke English. When I called my broker, they were "unavailable" and wouldn't be available until Monday. When asked to speak to a supervisor, I was placed on hold for 40 minutes and then told how the rest of my day was going to look like. AND I QUOTE "You are going to pay the delivery crew or they will not unload your things. Being upset isn't going to make anything easier for you. Get over the boxes opened bc if you don't have pictures of these items that were put in that specific box then I can't do anything for you"

Bad Customer Service - Do not use First Call Movers

I was contacted by First Call Movers to bid on my move from GA to FL. The sales person was great and made me feel comfortable with my decision to go with them. I was told by my sales person; Jorge that my items would be picked up 1 day and delivered in the next 24 hours (per my contract - showing move dates) but my items took 8 days to be delivered. My charges were not suppose to change at all per the contact it states "the total price will be the same as the price listed on this agreement if your inventory has not changed and if you do not require additional services" My total move increased by $700 and my inventory was actually less and when I tried to call First Call... Of course no one answered because it was a Saturday June 1st.... Why would anybody be in the office to answer on June 1st??? Previously to my movers showing up I was told I would receive a call 5 days before my move... No called. I had to call First Call Movers and still did not hear back from anyone till 24 hours before my move. If I could of cancelled at this point I would have. Since I was "stuck" will the movers at my place I had no choice but to proceed with the higher price. When my items were delivered I was missing one of my most expensive boxes, all my boxes were damaged along with my furniture. I was in tears at this point! It then took 48 hours for First Call to even contact me back after I called them to report this and the advised me to deal directly with the mover. WOW was I in for a shock. First Call advertises that they are a 1 call shop, but why did I have to contact my mover who picked up my items, my mover to deliver the items and now again when my items are damaged I had to contact the movers myself. This is NOT a one stop show. I'm awaiting for the insurance company to contact me back regarding my lost and damaged items (which they are allowed 30-90 days), but this all has been such a disaster and a very high unexpected cost. The customer service I received from their call center was unacceptable; I was hung up on numerous occasions and was placed on hold for very long waits. I even tried to reach my sales person by email, but of course no response. I would never recommend First Call Movers or use them in my future moves.
