Duolingo in french

I might consider Duolingo without Apple as middleman, though Duolingo has a couple of issues pointed out by several customers related to not being able to understand a couple of the speaking characters in the app.

I have a Duolingo subscription that expires in October 2023. Two days ago I was looking at the family plan. I signed up for a 14 day free trial to see if my significant other would enjoy it. Within seconds, my Credit Union Fraud Dept called me regarding suspicious charges. Apple/ Duolingo charged me $134.99 immediately. So, you made an error. Id like my money backimmediately. If you look at your reviews, youll see this is not uncommon and people seem to have no luck getting their money back. My bank is going to pursue it, but I am also going to continue researching in order to help others victimized in the same way. So, in my particular case, why did you charge me for the 14 day free trial? The 14 days had not passed. 60 seconds hadnt passed! Id like to have an answer by tomorrow afternoon as to why I was billed. Sincerely, Lynda D West

****COMPAINT ******IMPORTANT

Dear Sir/Madam I have taken an English test with Duallingo on the 15th of July. During the test, one question was skipped automatically. Approx 2-3 seconds later, the system moved to another question and I was not able to answer. I only saw the question asking ''What did the family do after eating the snacks?'' It was about a family who were at the picnic. It was a continuous question about the same paragraph and the answer was quite easy as they watched the sky after eating the snacks. I am saying that to emphasize it was not a difficult question like I would not answer it during normal conditions. I am saying this because I did not have a chance to answer this and it was such a pity. I fully complied with the rules during the exam, I had no pen or pencil in the area I took the exam but I had a closed box pencil box, I opened the box and quickly took note of the question which skipped very fast ''in order to escalate the matter'' and of course, I needed to do this otherwise, ''I would not remember the question''. Basic logic. I have still a small note with me that I wrote shacks etc. Just after the exam, immediately I emailed to ''Duolingo English Test Support'' email address and informed them about the issue. It was just exactly after the exam on 15th July 2023 at 10:23 AM (Malta time). I told them what happened and asked them how to proceed about this question as it was not fair to me and can we consider this question for my exam result as I also answered the question's answer. Most importantly, as it obviously can be seen from my eyes and the body language (since you are recording), ''apart from that moment'', I was fully on the computer and looking at the screen all the time. As a response from your team, I received the answer which was blaming me saying that it is not possible, my internet may be gotten slow or I missed the time etc :) So you were perfectly fine technically. Anyway, I decided to give up and waited for my result as it was looking like there was not any logical response. I started to wait for the result and no email was received, by chance, a few days later, I saw in the application that my exam was canceled because I used a pen or paper. I was quite shocked by this response as I was not expecting this since I already escalated an issue and it was completely ignored by Duolingo. Of course, I used pen and paper to write down the moment and the question was the system did not allow me to answer the question and they already knew it as I emailed immediately after the exam. Automated emails started to receive while I was hardly trying to explain the situation but the no common sense, no understanding, nothing at all. Completely careless answers, stating only that I used pen or paper. Like you talk with a robot :) Overall, I am writing this final email to you and asking below questions: 1. Why I would escalate you only one easy question issue if your system did not have any service issues? 2. Since you choose not to believe me, or simply ignore me, how come you do not prove that it did not happen like I said, this question stayed on my screen for a long time and I just looked at that and I did not answer till time passes :) You have the records you can easily prove that. YOu can easily see that. So where does this ridiculous story come from? To make me buy another exam? Isn't it a fraud? 3. My gestures and body movements obviously will be clear on the record, only that moment, I got sad and moved my body and take the pen and pencil and wrote down the question so how come you cannot link this with the issue? I would kindly ask you to examine this email and the situation professionally and with common sense and I am expecting a reasonable outcome as how it should be. It is unacceptable and I will carry this matter where ever I can (every possible environment, authorities, online platforms, etc) as it is completely no sense. Same sex teachings to my 7 year old!!!!

My 7 year old is taking the course. Skittle517 and she came across a question asking her about 2 females honeymoon!!! We have not had a discussion about sex or sexual orientation and I am HEATED!!! I need those types of questions removed or I want a refund!

Constant streak freezes

I paid for Super Duolingo for 2 years. In these 2 years I found this as a learning app go down hill. It is more of a word memorization game. People competeting justto win. Most of the week its3remembering words. The lessons have gone from mediocre to useless in conversational Spanish. I was emailed by Duolimgo when I passed my first year with a congratulations. I started with ads as I couldnt afford extra money. When I went to Super Duolingo they dropped all the months I had already been studying BTW thanks now that I can no longer afford Duolingo there is next to nothing you are allowed to do. I am watching adds to pay you money. This is now a complete waste of time. The daily whatever is completely worthless for a person that wants to lear conversational Spanish. For example glass in Spanish vaso. Then all of a sudden it's called a copa. I ask someone who speaks fluent Spanish. They said que! Had to really think and said a Champagne glass or wine glass is la copa. Duo doesn't explain that it says glass you write vaso ,wrong!!! This is just one of far to many different words for nouns. Even in Spain they no longer speak Castillian Spanish. I took 5 years of Spanish in school and you make it seriously complicated to say the same thing in many different ways. That's only why you still exist . It's from memorizing noun contests. Next.I live in MST or Daylight MST. I'll start around 11:30 p.m. and get charged a streak freeze. The only time I had ever missed was a day I had surgery. Then 2 or 3 days since I had catarac surgery which was just a couple weeks ago. You have no clue how hard it is to see anything close up a d especially be writing you. I'm tired of being charged streak freezes when I start to study over 15 mins before midnight. Then I continue sometimes as this evening and many other time a missed day and credit for the next day when I stop 2 minutes after midnight. I'm 68 and disabled. I positively confirmed I am of Hispanic blood when I was 60. I look forward to my almost perfect daily studying yet I have been deprived of numerous days. Please award me with my over 2 years as this is a constant problem. Then I can say I can know my life actually still means I try every day to learn. Actually learn is far from the truth. You've made it totally confusing and pretty worthless to learn. On your contests the winners are from Spain a lot learning Spanish. A bit strange. Obvious they don't belong in the same category, most likey soneone in there house speaks Spanish fluently. Get back to teaching not games. I have nothing good to say about Duo being fun interesting or good. It's dropped off into a game and if you can't pay forget learning period. Please give me my cresit due for way over 2 years. Fire your new make Duo better cause it's worse. Ever country in Mexico or South America speak different dialects. You make it impossible. There was even comments that Mexicans don't speak Spanish . General Spanish we all arent linquists, i just wanted to speak the language my birth mother spoke.

Greetings, I would like to demand from you the erasing of the Falstaff bear from Duolingo, an action I believe lots of other Duolingo clients have requested too. To humans who are not totally unconscious, the Falstaff bear is a representation and symbol of abuse and its enabling, and an insult to truly adult, loving, mutual relations, an insult which I and lots of others want out of Duolingo and out of our world forever. Our world is evolving and advancing to become wholly and totally freed towards patriarchy, sects of abuse, the destruction of nature and neoliberal culture, and it would be wise of you to add to that change by punching, kicking and throwing Falstaff out of Duolingo forever. Extra time was not given to me for completing a level as well as for a challenge

There was a glitch in the app and it shut down. Then when it came back up my extra time was not given to me. This has happened three time this past week and it is not fair since I earned the extra for double point by completing the challenge as well as the unit. This is the difference of me finishing #1 in this weeks tournament

Same old phrases x100

Ive been enjoying Duo plus and feel I learn a little every day. (French) However! Im so sick of weeks of reviewing chanteuse, tunisiens, cuisinier over and over and over again while I struggle with the phrases using parti, venu, sorti, etc. Those should be repeated in the «reviews» which I like to do to cement my learning. I read the blog post about using IA to create lessons but think a major tweak is needed. Im a native Afrikaans speaker, by the way. Thank you.

The problem still existe! After answering a question that shows correct they mark it incorrect.

To complain about their online game" of Duolingo. When I write toe correct answer theie automatic reply is incorrect, when the answer is exactly the same as their's. At this point you can no longer progress forward to complete the questions. This still has nit been corrected. If you view the screen shots below you will see the problem. This still has not been corrected. I wrote a hard copy letter to the corporate office of Duolingo and they have not responded. Can "Pissed-off": exert any pressure to help me and other usere?

I am currently taking an advanced free French course after completing the basic Portuguese, Italian, & French courses on Duolingo. However, for about a week now I cannot do practice lessons to earn hearts in the French course. Whenever I run out of hearts, I am obligated to switch to the Portuguese or Italian course in order to do practice lessons to earn hearts. THEN I have to switch back to the French course to continue my studies. These hearts I earn with the Portuguese course, in turn, allow me to do new lessons for my free French course. Sounds confusing, right? Well... it IS! I unfortunately cannot afford the paid Duolingo subscription. Learning languages for free on Duolingo has been an amazing boost to my morale. I really NEED this! Thanks for your help.

Technical issues unable to use

Once again i lost my streak despite i had some streak freeze and then on the last day being a Duolingo Family Plus User i should be entitled to a monthly streak repair. My streak is supposed to be 335 days. Unfortunately i was in hospital for a couple of days for a septicemy. please fix this, it's a big inconvenient and demotivating. Account : mikhail.rizzi@***.com

Application Problems and Poor Customer Service

Duolingo Duolingo is a scam. Please update your reviews. I have been using Super Duolingo for over a year. Now on Day 377. I have maintained Diamond Level ever since I first made it to Diamond League. I have even won the Diamond League Tournament. 1. I have noticed on multiple occasions that Duolingo does not credit you for the points earned on Challenges and have documented many of these since June 2022 when I first started contacting Super Duolingo Support with screenshots. I thought it went away for a while but reappeared in April 2023. Support initially tried to blame me for the problem, saying my signal strength was not strong enough. They couldn't grasp the concept that I was working from a Wi-Fi network with a bandwidth of over 350 Mbps. Support quit responding, so when my subscription ends this Friday, I will probably never come back. What's more, after earning the points and having them show up on the Leaderboard, Duolingo will mysteriously remove a portion of the points without explanation. I have it captured on screenshots and have reported it to Duolingo support channels. No response. 2. Duolingo uses gamification to keep the students engaged. This is a good thing. However, Duolingo takes this to an unethical level. In the gamification challenges, you will reach a point of about 40% through which it becomes impossible to complete that level of the challenge without having to purchase additional time extensions. Even if you are responding as quickly as possible, it is impossible. To win the Diamond League Tournament one week, I ended up spending over $200 on these extensions. We were all very competitive and earned over 1,000 points per day just to not get dropped (demoted) from the Tournament. At $200 a week, even $200 a month, I could have gone on iTalki and enjoyed a live, human, instructor. A serious student could spend many multiples of the year subscription in purchasing timer add-ons that extend your time by 1 minute for each use. 3. Any grammar instruction has basically disappeared from Duolingo. You're on your own there. 4. The iPhone app and the iPad app don't even connect with each other. If you spend an hour on the iPad app, your iPhone app will not recognize your work and could downgrade your daily streak. 5. There used to be an ability to ask questions on a particular card. Not anymore. It's locked to read-only. So if you have a question about the phrasing of your answer or what might be an acceptable alternative response, you're out of luck. 6. I've been studying Ukrainian through Duolingo because I started an approved 501(c)(3) humanitarian assistance nonprofit. Duolingo, in the most brilliant demonstration of tone deafness, published an article around the new year on how to wish someone a Happy New Year in various languages. Of course, it wouldn't be viable for Duolingo to include every language it covers. However, to present greetings in Russian (ruzzian) and not include Ukrainian 10 months after Russia invaded Ukraine is abhorrent. When I raised my concerns with Duolingo, they didn't correct the oversight. They just deleted the article. Duolingo never even bothered to reply to my Support request on the matter, much less apologize. I am very disappointed in Duolingo. Some very good alternatives that do ethically use a form of gamification to encourage continued learning are: Duo Card Easy Fun Learn LingQ Netflix Language Reactor (Language Reactor) Memrise I have subscribed to each of these and am much happier than I have been with Duolingo. I am not an affiliate for any of these products or services.

Our daughter in Russia paid 78$ for her proficiency exam with our USA bank card and her take exam button doesnt work. The payment was taken. We have been trying to find the ends for ten days since then and their customer support havent answered us yet. No calls back, no emails. We have 4 complain numbers: 558****, 558****, 560****, 562****. No response! We have left two or three audio-messages on their phone. No response! How does this Duolingo site works for those who want to take exams? I am at the point to stop my bank payment.
