Roof is leaking and warrantee people are non attentive! Sales people lie and honestly the whole purchase was a nightmare!

Roof stated leaking in 10 months, called and have not gotten it fixed in two months! This has been a horrible nightmare, we are in our 70s and should have never bought a house from these people.

About my house

We are so disappointed with the builder the house we purchased there are so many things wrong with it the floor is not level the wall is off bad and you have to go through *** to get something repaired. I wouldn't recommend no one to Dr. Horton they did a poor job. Please to anyone buying a house from this builder do your home work check everything do not move in until everything is repaired they do not care at all and will lie to you like its nothing.

MULTIPLE UNRESOLVED PROBLEMS

We found mold within the first two weeks! The house isnt graded properly, so after it the rains, the water sits in our backyard and sides of the house, The mosquito situation is so bad, we cant even enjoy our backyard. The windows dont open. They havent come back to finish resolve ANY of the issues they promised to do! Ive been waiting for over a year and a half. Everything is in writing! Im the rare instance they did send someone out, the issue is either passed on to another department, started but not completed, or left us worse off than we were. They came to fix a loose board at the top of our stairs, but the stain was removed in many places when they nailed it in. They never sent someone to restrain it and I dont even know what color it is to have it restored myself. They sent someone to repair our windows because they dont open, but only did a few, and never came back! They NEVER came back to fix many of the other items on our final punch list. They told us to wait a year for the house to settle and they would repair nail pops and split seams in the wall headers. They never return our numerous calls! Additionally, the interior of our house looks like it was painted in the dark, by toddlers! There are many areas without any paint, and the molding paint is on the walls and the wall paint is on the moldings. Lastly, when I needed to paint, I purchased a 5 gallon can of the paint color listed by them on my electrical box, only to find out that they listed it wrong and I the color doesnt match! And, I have multiple pieces of paperwork from DR Horton stating the color they used, and that is what I purchased. The list goes on and on! ALL of our neighbors have similar issues plus additional problems! Leaking roofs and non functioning air conditioning to name a few! My next door neighbors roof leaked and leaked into her bedroom, and many of the houses roofs shingles are coming off!

Unable to get answers

DR Horton according to purchase agreement is supposed to cover cost of flood insurance but I have not been able to reach anyone to take responsibility for such bill. Everything from day one of purchase has been awful.

Roof repairs

I have a leak in my home. According the the roofers who inspected the roof I have several issues due to faulty installation. There is a common occurrence in my neighborhood and my 2 adjoining neighbors have been told the exact same issue and we all had different roofers come out to inspect. I do expect DR Horton to make this right. My home is 6 years old and I should NOT be having these issues. I have tried reaching out to DR Horton through various emails/phone calls and I cannot get anyone to reach out to me.

DR Horton needs to be held accountable

Closed on a D.R. Horton house in Heather Glen community located in Little River SC on September 16, 2022. Sales person, Hannah, for DR Horton told us many lies regarding what our house would come with. Extremely disappointed that the house promised was not close to the house we received. Quality of materials used was poor and the work completed by the contractors was extremely messy and very poorly done. Contractors work was sloppy, paint splatter through out house, house was very dirty even after the cleaning contractor finished, had to hire our own cleaning people to re-clean the house, work was incomplete when we moved in, 3 months later still waiting on work from punch list to be completed. Cannot get D.R. Horton to respond to request. I would never do business with D.R. Horton again.

Spent four months trying to get our sprinkler system fixed. Meanwhile, I almost had to take out a loan to pay the water bill.

Water bill was extremely high, so our yard service said they thought we had a leak. We asked the building superintendent to come look and he agreed. It was a couple of weeks before the irriigation company came to look. They dug around and said they fixed it. Still had water standing and the sprinklers weren't evenly distributing the water. Next water bill was even higher. We had called the bldg. super and he got some more people to come back out. They dug around and said they fixed it. They didn't. Next water bill was higher (only two adults live here; it's not like you have kids playing in the sprinkler all summer). Meanwhile, I had plants dying. We turned off the system completely, and the next water bill was still high. Finally, some people came and said they fixed it, and it appears they knew what they were doing, but I lost about $1000 worth of plants and lots and lots of aggravtion.

Dishonest

They still haven't contacted us or reached put regarding further warranty requests we submitted

Original review Jun 27, 2022
This company has no showed to the majority of appointments they scheduled. They only work Monday thru Friday 8-4 so the consumer has to take off work for repairs. Once they don't show up, representative will apologize then ask another day to reschedule. Upon our walk through before closing, we marked everything we noticed that needed to be fixed using colored stickers. After we moved in, we noticed that not only were the things we marked not fixed, but the stickers were removed as if to imply they corrected the problems. This seems incredibly dishonest. Our vent to the dryer was roofed over, which had to be intentionally done. We had been trying to use our dryer for over a week before that problem was found from an independent contractor we hired to inspect the roof. This was an incredible safety hazard and fire risk. During grading of our backyard, our internet went out. My husband traced the problem to a cut line in the backyard that was coiled and buried. This let me know that not only did the person that cut the line realize they had done so, but they tried to cover it up.

Terribly Built Home & Property

Updated by user Jul 14, 2022
No response from builder. House foundation is now showing over 1 inch in movement causing window/door problems, and cracks throughout the home.

Original review Jun 13, 2022
I want to get this out there so people know before they buy. I now see hundreds of lawsuits online, but I did not know that when I bought my home. DR Horton is the worst builder. We signed for our house in 2020 and it was completed 4 months behind schedule. Even with the extra time they were given, we have been here 11 months and we have not had one day when our home has not needed repair or under construction. It has been one issue after another. DRH as Americas Home Builder is a disgrace to America. Our home is made with cheap materials and has uneven floors. The HVAC filter was blocked by a main beam when we moved in and then the HVAC drain-off leaked into our hallway ceiling during a freeze. The power goes in and out with various electrical issues.Flat paint in a color they no longer sell on all the walls. Paint completely rubs off if any marks are attempted to be gently wiped off.A retaining wall in our backyard with stone & concrete stairs has collapsed & been repaired 5 times now.The backyard has been full of deep divots, a large sinkhole, and floods terribly when it rains. The Whirlpool refrigerator we won in a Holiday drawing is still not working correctly.Concrete continues to come off our foundation and driveway.Moisture in the windowless bathrooms would shut off our power, so exhaust fans in bathrooms were replaced by less powerful ones that do not work, as condensation now drips off them. The shower leaked behind the drywall. The gas oven had to be replaced as it was leaking gas.Grout was cracking (it may already have leaked behind the wall) and crumbling off our bathroom shower & tub in both bathrooms. The flooring has had to be repaired many times due to holes in vinyl. The doorknobs keep coming loose and/or fall off.The cabinets and island counter were loose/falling off the wall. The garage has a large crack across the floor. We had large gaps under the thresholds of our outside doors. This is just to name some of the repairs that have been made or still need to be made on our home. It seems as if every time a contractor comes in for a repair, another issue or damage ends up being created.Contractors have left dirt handprints on our walls for over 6 months now that cannot be scrubbed off since it takes off the paintholes were left in the drywall of our walls for four months, there is *** in our island countertop from a contractorwe had *** in the siding on the back of the house from another contractorholes in our vinyl floor from other contractors,DRH Contractors have left beer bottles and scrap concrete in our yard. Between contractors just not showing up when scheduled, not finishing the repair, and/or creating another problem or more damage, we have been in a constant state of repair since we moved in. Between my husband and I, we have exhausted all our vacation and PTO days to be available to workers that will only come 8-5 Monday through Friday. We have been told that repairs cannot be completed because we do not make ourselves available after we started telling them that we cannot take any more time off and they need to come when we are off work. They have been here over 26 times and the house is still in disrepair. The latest issue we have been fighting with them over is to correct the drainage issue on our lawn, as we have a backyard full of standing water a few feet from the house after a rain. The warranty manager, JT Witcher, wrote to us and said they would install drains to fix our problem. But when the contractor, Earth Wind, and Fire, came, they dumped a bunch of dirt around our yard, left *** in the siding of our house where they cut it with a weed eater, and we were then told that they decided that this extra dirt would push the water out of the yard, so no drains were needed. We were not told this new decision and did not agree to this change. The day after they dumped the dirt, it rained for a very short amount of time, and 2 days later, after 95-degree heat, we still had standing water that still does not drain in our backyard again along with a lot of mud. They did not fix the problem at all. Now we have an AC unit that sits in water after a storm and extra dirt that covers our foundation up over the brick to make water come inside our home after a storm. A new sinkhole has been created and the replaced stairs that have cracked yet again. The last DRH communication stated this was up to owner maintenance. DRH and their contractors seem to try to drag out and put off any claims so that when their cheap repair eventually falls apart, it is after the warranty has expired and you must pay for it to be replaced yourself. I am not sure who the city inspectors were for this home, but they did a terrible job. Some of the neighbors have had major problems that they have ended up fixing themselves because dealing with DRH is such an endless battle that does not go anywhere. Buying your first home is supposed to be an exciting experience, especially a new one. This has been nothing but a huge disappointment, a stressful burden, and a complete nightmare. We do not ever want to own another home after this experience. Please do not buy a DR Horton home. Run as fast as you can. I pray I can save another new homeowner from making the same mistake I have made.

New Home purchased: 1 Year warranty items submitted as requested, but only lip-service from DR Horton representatives. Multiples texts 'still checking', 'I have a meeting to discuss that with builder'...still no resolution 2 months later. 1. Paint issues: outside hardy board painted during rain, the paint is washing off and non-existent on sides of board. Several Vents were not painted and some were - inconsistent painting. 2. Paint issues: no resolution to warranty repair of nail pops, and wall issues. Representative can not find 'paint color' from new home. 3. Sidewalk cement is eroding under gutters and from rain. Substandard cement/concrete that is disintegrating. 4.Bathroom fan hazard: Burning smell noted in bathroom. Electrician called to troubleshoot (see photos) Burnt areas on fan Fire averted.
