Do not use.

I signed up for this program in 2008. Based on my debt the initial fee for the service was $1800. They were taking over 1800.00 per month to pay my numerous cards. After two years my enormous debt was not coming down. I went to an bankruptcy attorney and decided to go that route. In less than five years my debt was paid off through the court. Delray kept my initial 1800.

Review in Collection Agencies category from Raleigh, North Carolina

The guy that i spoke to had me go to a link to view my credit report and only told me that it was only a one dollar charge. I put my debit card info in and i viewed my accounts. I was a little hesitant because i dont usually use my card online. I was debited 39.95 and i had to call the service and cancel with them. I am hoping that i get my refund because Delray lied to me. This company will bulyl you into taking their help and they arent really helping you. I will never let anyone take this type of advantage of me again.

Find another debt consolidator

Delray will go out of their way to get your business, even calling you or taking your call after your work hours. After they have you signed up you can only call about your account Mon-Fri 9am-4pm central time, but they turn off the phones at 11 am central for their lunch break. If you ask for a pay off they will just tell you about 16 more payment, no matter how many payments you have. You can schedule an additional payment to your account on their website but it will not be removed from your bank account or credited to your Delray account. You will have to call them up to 3 times to schedule the extra payment. When they do get the payment scheduled it is very unlikely that it will be for the amount that you requested. The first few months Delray will email you account activity and payments. They will stop and when you ask why they will say they are still sending them and accuse you of not reviewing them or changing your email. The Delray website states that by law they can only charge up to $39/ month few as a non-profit company. They do not say that this is what they will charge you, but you can not get a lower fee from Delray. They will also charge a $1 fee for every transaction, so $40/ month. A lot of interest rates are lower than this. After contacting the BBB, a manager called me one time at 10:30 am while I was at work and left me a voice mail. I never got to talk with this person.

Del Ray Lied and cost me more

I was told they would pay the IRS for me. I received a letter from the IRS 4 months after I started giving them almost $400 a month. They never paid the IRs and now I have an added $500 nonpayment penalty. I was scammed in a time when I really needed someone I could trust. The person I originally spoke with who made it sound so good and was my personal debt counselor never spoke to me again. Everytime I called to speak with him I got a rude customer service rep who tried to to keep me from cancelling the program. She never addressed my issues.

No Problems At All

Signing up was easy, everything was clearly explained to me. I got documents by fax that were easy to read and understand. My lenders agreed to the terms quickly. In June 2010 I had almost $18,000 in credit card debt and was told that it would take about 5 years to pay off. My last payment is this month. Every email I've sent has been answered. I think their fees are reasonable for what they do. Using this service took a huge amount of stress off of me, not having to deal with phone calls and threat letters and the possibility of wage garnishment.

I have no issues!!!

I love DCC’s online live help. When I'm at work and I have a question I don't have to sit on the phone and wait to talk to a actual person. They are always friendly and extremely helpful and knowledgeable about any question that I have for them. Thank you for making it so easy to get in touch with a real person, that is what people want; to talk to a person, not a machine. The debt consolidation program really helped me get out of my debt faster than I would have been able to do on my own. And my credit score has already improved! It really really works!

Very Welcoming And Reassuring!

I have attempted to work with other credit councling companies, but have found most of them to be rude and talk "down" to me without knowing my history and what has gotten us to the point we are at financially. People shouldn't judge others unless they have walked down their path in their shoes. So far, my experance with Delray Credit Counceling has been a good one. The representative I spoke with was very courteous and helpful. She has been very willing to help and did not make me feel like I am a horrible person for needing help. I would recomend Delray Credit Councling to anyone who has had the misfortunes that my husband and i have had that has led us to where we are today. Thank You! Kevin B

I was contacted after I filled out a form online

I had 9 cards with a total of 27k in debt. The counselor I talked to was very helpful, and enrolled me into my banks debt program they offer thru non-profit agencies like delray. I'll be out of debt in 5 years instead of 20 making minimum payments. I've been very satisfied other than I wish my payments were lower, but the agency explained that my credit card companies set the payments, I didn't believe them at first, but I called Citibank, Discover and Capital One and they all said that was right. I'm now satisfied with this agency

Harassing Phone Calls

I recently spoke with a Delray counselor for the first time. After giving me the sales pitch I told him I would call my bank with routing info, etc. He agreed to call back later. When he called, I told him I was going to think about it before making a decision. He then began asking questions of why I changed my mind. I had enough by then so I thanked him and hung up. The following day this co. called me 10 times back-to-back harassing me to change my mind and consolidate my debts. I continuously hung up on them until the calls stopped. Tomorrow's another day but hopefully the annoying calls won't start back.

DELRAY LIED ABOUT ACCEPTING PROMOTION ACCOUNTS

I mistakenly signed-up with Delray as I was searching for a simple consolidation loan. The entire process was conducted over the telephone over a period of several days and the phone calls were recorded. I stated to Delray that 3 of my accounts were promotional accounts that would incur additional interest rate charges if not paid by the contract date. Their representative assured me numerous times that they would be able to negotiate with these creditors and that I would not have to pay the additional interest when it was due to be assessed to my account. This proved to be a false statement by them, as I was assessed the charges on two of my accounts and had to pay-off the third one on my own before more interest charges were applied. I spoke with their office manager Laura who stated that they do not accept these type of accounts in the program and that I should have informed them that my accounts contained the promotion period. I explained to her that I had made it clear numerous times on the phone that this was the case and that their associates had informed me that I would not be liable. Because the phone calls had been taped, I asked for copies of the transcripts for legal action, but they claimed that they do not keep transcripts. This oversight on their behalf has applied an additional $1500 to my overall balance. I am now in the process of filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and taking them to court for unethical business practices. There is some light at the end of this tunnel, as Laura has requested copies of my statements and they will supposedly try to reverse this with the individual companies, but after my experience with them, I am very reluctant to believe this will be successful. Sad thing is that I was not in any debt that I could not pay-off, I was simply recovering from a divorce and needed time to build a cushion in my finances, as my credit was well above 700. Now Delray has accounted for an additional $1500, plus their fees and deposits. I acknowledge part of this is my fault for not researching their company more thoroughly, but we all learn from our mistakes. If you are considering debt consolidation, I would recommend either a simple consolidation loan, or negotiate directly with your creditors. Avoid consorting with Delray Credit, they operate an unethical practice that attempts to extort additional money from unsuspecting consumers for their benefit.

Liars

I was told when I set up my account that it would take 36 months. Now I am being told it will take 40, as I enter month 37. They say that I should have taken the contract amount and divided it by the payment less fees (a solid 34.6%). While it was my fault that I did not look over the contract carefully, be warned they will rush you through that part of the process so you over look the fine print. They WILL lie to you on the phone (as I stated I was told verbally it would take 36 months). The subcategory for this company should be Financial Schemes and Scams. I would urge you to use another company. I have also read a lot about how difficult they are to deal with once the contract has been signed.

Deceptive Practices of Delray Credit Counseling

When I signed up with Delray, the associate guided me to the webpage where participants complete their digital signature. It is only on that page that you can view the contract by clicking a link. I asked if I could take a few minutes to read it. She explained that I could read it later and that it only restated what she had already explained. It was an awkward moment where I got the feeling she didn't want to wait around for me to do so. She was friendly and seemed trustworthy, so I signed up. I was unable to access the contract from their website. I eventually received it when I had an associate send it by email 2 months later. What I was not informed of in the initial sign up call was that they withhold your deposit if you violate your contract. I unwittingly violated my contract when I paid off my debt in a lump sum. When I called Delray to tie up loose ends I was informed that I had violated my contract. When I explained my side, he became unprofessional, threatening and insulting. I discovered later that its not uncommon for their employees to become unprofessional when calling to complain. Even one of their managers, Rachel Sherman, hung up on me when I was trying to make my case for a deposit refund. She refused to complete a review of my case. When I told her about my experience signing up, she said that their employees do not push you to sign up without reviewing the contract. Knowing that they record all of their calls, I asked her if she would listen to the phone call. She relunctantly said she would. I asked if she would refund the money if the call revealed I was hurried through the process and she said no. The other problem I have is that they never contacted me about funds owed to me. After paying off my accounts, they continued to withdraw funds from my checking for two months. I had money sitting in their accounts and it took me calling them to have them refund it. And Rachel Sherman seemed to think she was doing me a favor by refunding the money. The bottom line: They may be non profit, but they make a lot of money entrapping participants by not giving them all the information needed to make sound financial decisions. Participating with them has hurt me more than helped. The one thing they did do that was nice was lower my monthly fee from $40 to $19. But they still got me in the end. (Yes, its my responsibility to read the contract. I'm the first to admit it. But when Rachel Sherman said that, it's as if she's admitting her associates don't give you the information you need.) It's no wonder they aren't endorsed by the NFCC. Ryan perpetually28@***.com

False Sales Claims, Misrepresentation of relationship

My wife signed with Delray CC after being told our payment would be $1250 a month (roughly what we were paying at the time). After our initial deposit the rate went up to $1335. We balked but accepted. A month later it went up to $1511. Again we were a bit shocked, but saw the payments being made to our creditors and looked at it as a faster resolution to our debt. While paying more than most mortgage's each month to Delray we managed to pay off 3 of our cards on our own and Delray routed the remainder of the $1511 to the LOWEST INTEREST ACCOUNT. Upset but excited at the rate we were moving we again accepted. This morning my wife called all of our creditors, negotiated our own interest rates (lower than what Delray negotiated) and found out from Capital One that Delray sent in a negotiated rate request of 14% on my wife's card. The rate was at 10% when they sent the request! They actually caused an INCREASE in our rate over the last two years. On calling Delray to cancel the DMP after making her own considerable arrangements, she was told that we would not receive our deposit back and it is forfeit. No Delray! You do not call it a deposit, tell us that we can choose to get it back or apply it to our last payment, raise our monthly rates, raise our interest rates, and then keep our money "deposit'. This post is step one. Step two is an honest attempt to get Delray to see the error of this practice on Monday when they open. Step three is a BBB call on deceptive and misleading business practices. Step four is a call to the Florida and Washington state AG's office to have your contracts and policies reviewed. Step five is using all of my resources to distribute knowledge to the people and limit your pool of fish. I hope everyone who reads this can see the legitimacy of my statements and can walk away knowing that Delray is not a company that you want to do business with.
