Poor service

DO NOT USE THIS VET. On several occasions i have made appointments only to show up and be told they have no record of the appointment or that it was for another day. They overcharge for "diagnostic" tests and still cannot tell you what is wrong then guess on a treatment. WORSE VET I HAVE EVER USED. notDo

Get a 2nd opinion

November 2016 HS vet tech tell me the bleeding in my Maltese’s mouth was just because he needed a teeth cleaning. I scheduled the $425 procedure and paid for my visit and antibiotic. Didn’t feel confident in the limited exam by the vet tech and saw another vet who after a thorough exam noticed unexplained bruising and drew blood. He correctly diagnosed thrombocytopenia, or no blood platelets. He saved my dogs life. If I had gone through with the dental cleaning my dog would have bled out and died. I called Deland Animal Hospital to let them know they missed a diagnosis and wanting a refund. Dr Deb returned my phone call and was shocked they missed the diagnosis and quite frankly didn’t believe me. She didn’t think a refund was fair. After a longer than needed discussion she agreed to a refund for the exam but not the medicine.

Failed to Help

The owners of DeLand Animal Hospital are suing me in an attempt to stop me from posting an account of what happened to my standard poodle on March 31st. I took Rembrandt to their facility just after 3pm on that Saturday. They diagnosed him as having a possible ruptured spleen. They told me that he needed emergency surgery, and I paid them $1800 for the surgery, but when I called them at 9pm to find out how he was doing, I was told to come get him and take him somewhere else because they did not have a surgeon. That means for 6 hours, Rembrandt was bleeding to death in their back room. In an attempt to stop me from telling people what happened, they are trying to beat me up financially by filing a lawsuit against me. So far, I have had to pay over $10,000 for my defense; however, they have more money and have more power than me so this is a tough battle, but I will not take down what I have posted because it is true and accurate account of what happened to Rembrandt. I am fighting not only for my right to post a review, but also, your right. Case #2018-1****-CIDL in the Volusia County Circuit Court.

Don't go here

I was giving a treatment plan for my dog for surgery, I took a day off for work for this, when I came in for the surgery with my treatment plan, I was giving a different price. I will have my attorney look in to this.

Rembrandt Had One Chance

Our 10 year old standard poodle, Rembrandt, was admitted to DeLand Animal Hospital on Saturday, 03-31-18, at approximately 3 p.m. He was diagnosed with a ruptured spleen and immediate surgery was recommended. We paid the $1800 expecting the immediate surgery that they had promised. They lied to us. They promised to save him, but they did not give him any treatment, tests yes, treatment no.... DeLand Hospital, their staff, their technicians and their veterinarians let him suffer SIX HOURS WITHOUT TREATMENT. After wasting six (6) hours, they called and requested that we pick Rembrandt up because they could not find a surgeon Deland Animal Hospital denied Rembrandt an opportunity to live. UPDATE: DeLand Animal Hospital is suing me for Libel/Slander for the review that I posted about their treatment of Rembrandt. Being sued is horrible, especially as a 73 year-old retiree living on Social Security. It is an emotionally and physically draining experience. A person can give an accurate account of their experience and still be sued for frivolous reasons.

HORRIBLE

Took my 13-pound 14-year-old with severe pain and infection after a dental procedure, and we went ignored for several hours. Right before we walked out, a tech appeared to say that it would still be several hours before my dog could be seen. All he needed was a tech to administer a shot of antibiotics. We walked out, never to return. Sitting there for several hours, I witnessed a lot that people don't want to know goes on. I drove my dog 45 minutes from NSB to this 24/7 clinic, and no vet was available. Next time I will NOT drive to DeLand Animal Hospital for anything whatsoever. Not even a call of apology or concern was received, only an auto-send "thank you" for showing up.

The Worst Choice I Ever Made Was Taking Rembrandt There

Our 10 year old standard poodle, Rembrandt, was not acting himself on that Saturday afternoon. I decided to have him checked. When I told him we were taking a car ride, he leaped up, walked a few steps and fell down. He was very ill. We arrived at DeLand Animal Hospital after 3 pm on Saturday, and the staff took him right in. They advised me that he had suffered from a ruptured spleen and would need emergency surgery. After about 30 minutes, they presented me with an estimate of $1800, which I immediately paid, and I asked if they would perform the surgery right away, which they said they would. At 9 pm, they called and requested that I take him to another veterinarian because THEY COULD NOT FIND A SURGEON. The staff had wasted six (6) hours of Rembrandt's life and destroyed whatever chance he may have had to live. When I took him in, he could not walk and had a very hard time breathing. When I picked him up, he was beyond hope, so I took him to another veterinarian, and they him put down. Our Rembrandt deserved a better last day.

Deland Animal Hospital are Angels with open arms and open Hearts

Upon finding a small kitten in a tiny Walmart bag hanging on the garbage pail, I immediately went to DAH.. Darla assured me "we will take care of him".. no questions.. Dr. Deb and Dr. Tom 's unconditional love and care are beyond reproach..Another Animal Hospital would have advised me to call Animal Control.. Deland Animal Hospital puts Fur-Babies First!! They have worked Miracles with my Symbal's sugar, ps. she is sugar free, but still very Sweet, no pun intended.. Sherry is our guiding light.. and the staff are so very pleasant, smiling through tied eyes.. Those Drs. worked round the clock on Thanksgiving , bringing their little angel girls with them just to care for every fur-baby that came in.. They have even treated a bat, lizard, you name it... Please don't let anyone tell you they have not received the BEST OF THE WEST.. THEY STRIVE FOR THE WELFARE OF ANIMALS... DR. TOM SAVED OUR DINKY'S LIFE FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS, AS WELL AS DR. DEB.. AND HIS BROTHER INKY.. HOW VERY GRATEFUL WE ARE THAT WHEN WE CLOSE OUR EYES AND OUR HEADS ARE ON OUR PILLOW, WITH OUR CAT OR DOG, DAH'S DOORS REMAIN OPEN.. THEY HAVE NO LOCKS... 324 DAYS A YEAR.. GOD BLESS YOU DAH.

Deland Animal Hospital - Customer Care Review from Deland, Florida

I have been taking my Dogs, Cats, Prairie Dog, Guinea Pigs and Bearded Dragon to DeLand Animal Hospital for 18 years and I would not take them anywhere else. DeLand Animal Hospital treats us like family and I trust them. The main Doctors that we have seen are Dr. McPhail, Dr. Ulbricht, Dr. Beazlie and Dr. Murton. Because they are now open 24/7, have we encountered other doctors there who are filling in? Yes, and I can say that those experiences were NOT so wonderful and gratifying. The main in house doctors are the most wonderful, but the ones who are from other places, not so much. When making my appointments , I always schedule with one of the IN HOUSE doctors that I mentioned earlier. I love these doctors and trust them immensely . A very happy satisfied client.

Deland Animal Hospital Customer Care Review from Deland, Florida

Brought my 13 year old pug in for exam in order to refill a prednisone prescription for his arthritis. We saw Ashley Still who proceded with a shamefest for not getting tests done for aging dog ailments like diabetes. Further she tries the scare tactic that untreated without visable symptoms he could just die suddenly.i felt like she was on commission to upsell services, in addition, she couldnt get a heart rate reading, blaming his heavy breathing that is typical of the breed. First time in 6 years using them i left feeling beat up. At 13 i dont wish to impose unnecessary tests looking for anything to satisfy her bonus

Review in Animal Services category from Deland, Florida

Our family has used Deland Animal quite a few times when we have had off hour pet issues that warrant a vet visit. For the most part we have had positive experiences with the vets there and we have seen a few as we have four dogs of varying ages. Our most recent experience here has left me absolutely disgusted with their business practices. So much so that I must share this so that others can read and make informed decision before using this facility. Our nearly 17 year old dog began showing signs of a urinary tract infection on Saturday afternoon. I will note that she is completely blind, but otherwise healthy and manages around our house well. Because we noted some blood in her urine, I asked my husband to take her up there to have a urinalysis done to confirm a UTI and begin treatment. And if the urinalysis was clean we knew we might need to have additional tests performed. Unfortunately for us, the vet on duty was Gary Johnson, DMV. We had one experience with him a few years ago where he tried to upsell tests. It was rather expensive that evening and you know.... he was completely off as our dog ended up having an ear infection that was easily treated. He is the only vet that we have run across that has done this here, So... long story short. My husband tried to get a urinalysis for our 17 year old, blind dog. Gary Johnson proceeded to lecture my husband that it could be a brain lesion and he would need to perform $750.00 worth of scans to diagnose. He thought this because she was bumping into things. Hello... she is blind. And stressed. When my husband rejected that proposition and requested a urinalysis and starting a course of treatment if it was positive for bacteria. He was then lectured that the dog needed to be overnighted, sedated and urine extracted directly from her bladder at a cost of $455.00. A regular urinalysis would not do since he needed to perfectly match up the antibiotic treatment. We did not agree to pay this and the primary reason is that it is a clear rip off and our 17 year dog does not need to be sedated and needles in her bladder unless absolutely necessary. Clearly, performing a standard urinalysis and starting treatment before the primary doctor reopens on Tuesday is not a reasonable approach or a standard practice for this particular doctor. We now have to keep our dog comfortable over a long weekend until we can get her to her regular vet. We were willing to pay for standard diagnosis and medication. It is a real shame that reasonable standard practices are not put in place here. And what is heartbreaking is that so many of the people who bring their pets in for emergency services end up with enormous bills and unnecessary tests. To be fair, we have only experienced this with Gary Johnson. Any of the other vets we have seen have performed tests that we felt were in line with what we brought the dog in for. If you have to bring your pet here, please inquire who the vet on duty is. If it is this doctor, then be prepared to get put on the elevator and will not even end up being able to have basic tests completed.

Short Review on July 03, 2016

Completly disappointed with this vets office. I have been put on hold for over 15 min at a time ... Not just once. I've spent a lot of money with them and im done! I cant get my lab results on time for my dogs and its extremly difficult to talk with a doctor. Thought this was the place for me and my fur babys but NOT ANY MORE!! Do not recomend them at all.
