Warning about price gouging

My daughter called D & K Heating Home Services by Enercare in to diagnose and repair their gas fired water heater. A tech came out and, after fiddling around a bit, told them it needed a flammable vapour sensor. (7 flash code on a Honeywell controller) So the initial visit was a hundred bucks. Then the tech quoted $390.00 for the sensor. A second call to install the sensor would have been another hundred dollars for sure. Taxes on top of that would have been about $660.00 dollars total cost to replace a sensor that I found on Amazon for $43.00 dollars. People like that represent the very worst nightmare of people that have to rely on the service industry for heat and hot water. Had the sensor been quoted at under a hundred dollars, that would have been a very handsome mark-up on $43.00 dollars considering the Amazon seller is already making his profit on $43.00. But $390.00 dollars? Ridiculous, unprincipled, and a pure rip-off! https://www.amazon.ca/Rheem-SP20172-Flammable-Vapor-Sensor/dp/B00G2DL8M8 Adding insult to injury, two days after the initial failure, the code 7 stopped flashing and a reset was followed by the heater firing up as per normal. A new sensor is enroute from Amazon and just in case anyone suggests it isn't the right one, the part numbers on it match the ones on the current installed unit.
