They Don't Care about your time once they have your money

They gave me a date to start within their 3-day window so I made my plans - vacation, hotels, etc. The the night before they called and said they would not make theh promised date, or the contract 3-day window. In reality they did not have anyone to do the move. They subcontracted to someone who then subcontracted to a team who didn't know how to pack. Arrived in town with no boxes, arrived at site 6 hours late, total time to pack less than 1100 sq feet was 12 hours ending at 3:00 a.m. Not a single box marked with contents or even room it was packed in. Clearly don't take their dates seriously as compensation for a missed pick up is $50, which wouldn't even cover a hotel room. Company web site inaccurate on executives; promised response to letter written was 10 days late, and offered compensation hadn't changed. Don't do it!

Lost and broken items not reimbursed

We had the worst experience ever with Colonial Van Lines for our move from Texas to North Carolina. They lost some of our stuff, some items arrived damaged, and we never got reimbursed for any of it. We hired the movers to pack a few fragile things for us, thinking they knew how they should pack them so they wouldn't get damaged, but instead they put our Tiffany-style lamp shades into a box that barely fit and didn't use any bubble wrap or protective materials, so these expensive lampshades arrived broken. My desk arrived without its drawer, and we received someone else's dolly, not the nice one we had. They offered a pittance in comparison to our actual losses, which was unacceptable. If you want a pleasant moving experience, don't use Colonial Van Lines.

Delivery not as promised, overcharged and broken item

Colonial Van Lines must be one of the worse moving companies in the business. Om Mach 30th 2022, I moved from California to Florida. The Colonial salesperson, Colin Smith was not friendly. He was impatient and annoyed if I asked any questions. I gave him an accurate list of all the items to be moved, then he promised "one price all-inclusive" for $9500. Read on for the big surprise! When the truck arrived, the driver thought it was a local move instead of an out of state move. He only brought two packers (the company promised four). He asked me to lie about it. He said: If Colonial calls tell them we have four packerswhat? This guy was skimming. And they didn't have enough boxes. I had to go to Home Depot to buy more of my own boxes! It took them over one hour to call the office and get the right details about the job. Given only two men, the packing lasted 12 hours for a two-bedroom house. The packing was sloppy and frail. They ended up breaking expensive art, furniture, broken glass tops, dented the refrigerator and lost several items as well. Over $10,000 in damages. AFTER the loading was done at 9:00 PM, the supervisor/driver (Chris) showed me a paper I could not read with all the items they loaded on the truck. The print was very small. His writing was illegible. I signed it. I had no choice. Turns out later, he logged 117 items that were not on my original list. Its a joke right? He also logged 1100 pounds more for the load. I only added an electric piano to the list which was about 150lb. Later the finance department called me with an additional charge of $4,200 and change. Totally bogus. I had to pay it, or they would not unload the items. Its extorsion. Additionally, some of the items were supposed to go in storage and did not. I was charged extra for a "two drops" job. They ended up unloading those items that were supposed to go in storage at my house and later I had to pay an additional $750 to a different company to move those items to my warehouse. In final, false estimate, broken, promises, broken items, and extra illegitimate charges. I called customer service and this guy Matt would not take any responsibility other than sending me a claim form. Mabey, they will pay $.60 on the dollar for the broken items. I doubt it. He would not reimburse the illegitimate $4200 charge or pay to move the items that were dropped at my house instead of my warehouse. This is going to court. I recommend you call a different company.

Service complaints

Move job incomplete and movers damaged water line to fridge and flooded my kitchen. I need help immediately

2/5

Horrible customer service

Did not properly quote my moving costs. Misled me on how and when I had to pay their sub contracted moving co. Did not communicate to the movers that I needed wardrobe boxes. The movers damaged several items and Colonial refuses to even return my repeated calls to file a claim.

The lies.

Colonial started out as a seemingly responsible operation. Good contact, reasonably priced. But when it came time for the actual move, that is when the lies begin. We were notified twice the week before our move everything was a go for the dates we had. The second time was two days before the pickup, everything was still a go. The day of pickup we had to call the guy, his name was Oliver to find out what was going on. He gave the talkthey may need more time, no definite date, could be another weekyes, they could still turn up and he admitted he wouldnt know. He knew from previous talks we had to be out of our house in two days. We called the representative who signed us on, never received a call back. I finally contacted Donna in Resolutions. She talked to the dispatcher and he said they had no idea when we would have a truck. People just werent showing up for work. She suggested we may want to seek alternatives! With two days to get out of our house, Colonial cost us a lot of money. If they had been honest, up front, and said the trucks were not showing up, we would have known that we should have a back up plan. We would never use them again, and truthfully, we would figure out something different than using any supposedly professional moving company. I have to give a star to post this review. I will give this star to Donna since she was the only honest person we spoke with.

Awful company

Wish I could give them zero stars because they offered the worst service by far. I called multiple days in order to find out my moving date, only to finally get information less than a day before my move. The movers who did come were late, and I had to keep calling them to find out when they would even show up since colonial did nothing to help. Then colonial gave me a whole hour and a half notice that the movers would be there with my items between 12 and 4 later in the day for drop off. That never happened. I had to call the movers multiple times and found out at 4 they had been calling colonial with updates that never made it to me (despite me calling colonial and leaving messages for the person in charge of my move). Colonial is the kind of company that assigns 4 different people to your move and then none of them will actually help you with the move or figuring out when your stuff will arrive. STEER CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY. I REGRET ANY MONEY I SPENT

Breach of Contract

Original review Jun 30, 2021
No response to any emails no follow up from the company whatsoever delivery was over 30 days late was bullied into paying $2200 more than we should have and was told by Loving Hands Truck Driver That if we did not pay they would leave with our items despite showing them the contract that showed balance due items were damaged and lawyer has been obtained. Nothing but a total nightmare.

Damaged material and missing items

Damaged material and missing items our family moved from Fayetteville North Carolina to Melbourne Florida I was getting quotes. This company had the most reasonable quote for my move, so I thought. Moving day, when the movers show up, they wanted to charge me three times I was originally quoted. Upon receiving my stuff 14 days later! Things like my table in my 65-inch big screen TV were damaged, also I still have missing family portraits that they cannot track down. I would not recommend!

Lack of Communication & Deflecting

I'm still no closer to getting my stuff back, it may or may not be delivered next week. Tuesday, May 11th, 2021 one of the representative was to call me with a definite date for delivery, I waited until the end of the day. So I call the Problem Resolution person and she says you wanted until the end of the day to call, everyone has gone home and to call back tomorrow morning. I called the rep twice, each time it went to voicemail. A couple of hours later she called and the conversation was basically I'll call you next Tuesday

SAVE YOURSELF FROM AN AWFUL COMPANY!!!

It's difficult to articulate all the problems we've experienced with Colonial Van lines as there has been so many. What appeared to be a large professional company at first, turned out to be a total nightmare! The communication fell apart as soon as they collected our deposit. Instead of working with a large reputable company as we thought, they instead subcontract your move to a different moving company, ours was Big Dream Movers. A tiny Budget truck arrived to load our stuff. We live in a 3000 sq ft house and 3-car garage packed with stuff. Of course they weren't able to fit everything! After a lot of back and forth with the drivers, our realtor, new homeowners and our neighbors asking for help to store our remaining items, my husband had to then make a 5-hour round trip to meet the 2nd truck days later to load the rest of our stuff. Delivery of our items was just as painful. Claims of the truck being broken down, delays, saying they'll show up one day, we would take the day off of work for the move, and then the truck would not show up. When it finally did, none of the movers had tools to re-assemble our furniture... The list of misery goes on and on, I can't possibly list everything wrong. They will hold your furniture hostage until the total amount is paid, an amount for us that ended up being more than double their original estimate, a $10,000 difference!!! That's a BIG DISCREPANCY! After making them meet us at the weight station for the second truck, we learned they OVER-CHARGED US BY 2700 LBS and forgot our large flat screen tv!!! After having proof in hand we thought it would be simple to get a refund of the overcharge. However, months after months later of asking for our refund, Sharon from Colonial presents us with a NEW weight ticket 79 DAYS AFTER OUR DELIVERY, claiming it's ours, even though we had never seen it before!!! It claimed that our first truck (that was never in question) weighed 1,300 lbs heavier than the original weight ticket. The new weight ticket provided NO PROOF it was our furniture! There is no doubt in our minds they tried to pass it on as our truck so they wouldn't have to refund us the full amount. We only got a portion of what should have been refunded and it took approx 80 days of non-stop calling to finally get it! SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE!!! If Colonial wants our money that badly, they can keep it. We just don't want anyone else to fall victim to what we had to experience.

VERY UNHAPPY

This is the WORST company in the world. I have moved many times - South Africa to England to Spain to England to America. And now across country from East Coast to West Coast. I have NEVER experienced anything SO bad in my entire life. They took apart all my furniture and then refused to put it back together again on the other side. They piled all the fragile boxes at the bottom of the heavy boxes - many breakages. The dropped the screen of my Peloton Bike!! The driver charged me for extra stairs because he said his contract says he only has to do 7 stairs and he did not care that my contract stated 21!! I am missing 3 boxes of books and keepsakes!! They stole my ladder. Every piece of furniture has a chip - somewhere!! This move cost me $10,000 and now I have to fork over another couple of grand to replace all the stuff they damaged. DON'T EVER USE THIS COMPANY

TERRIBLE SERVICE! Wanted us to sign NDA for compensation

If this company tries to get you to sign a "Confidentiality Agreement" before refunding or issuing you any money back, DON'T!!! It actually is a NON DISCLOSURE AGREEMENT, one they use to *** you and threaten you with a lawsuit if you break it from writing reviews, seeking legal help, and to keep them looking perfect and in business! Found Colonial online and saw it had amazing reviews. Shocked to see the truth actually coming forth AFTER the storm hit. Hired Colonial for a cross-country move. Was given an estimate of $6k, updated the inventory, and they hiked us to over $10k as they wanted about $2k+ to store our belongings. We decided to go with our own storage instead." Well driver arrives, the truck ends up being too small, and the mover/driver asked us if we had a "Plan B", what type of car we had, and if it had a trailer hitch so we could haul our stuff that wouldn't fit. Well, while the mover initially was really kind in helping us save money, he wouldn't let us forget it as if we owed him the biggest favor. Guy expected us to drive in the dark, and couldn't understand how he could spend some 6+ hours doing whatever he wanted off work while we weren't even in the state we were moving to yet (which how is that any of our problem?). So we settle for a time to get there, and soon after we start getting greeted with the mover starting to threaten us if we didn't get there by that time. Eventually they flat out said they'd unload the truck into a storage unit and leave the rest of the move to us!! Thankfully it didn't come to that, but after the move we come to learn, things didn't go as they should have and we didn't really get the service we asked and paid for. When we went to get compensation, the mover who moved us decided to call asking for the EXACT AMOUNT of money he saved us as payment for finishing the job, and when we said no and how the company should be the one responsible as they brought too small a truck, he texted me angry and upset. Not only that, but they didn't bother really making room to reassemble items they took apart (one bedroom had plenty of room left for stacking space to make the room) and while we said we'd do it, we're finding some of the items/hardware missing to do so or items damaged to where we can't properly reassemble. On top of that, we've got broken items, cracked lids on our storage bins (which have a maximum weight capacity of 150), and missing items. The company offered us 6% compensation for all the trouble we went through after really running through what we thought was a smooth move through our heads on replay and finding red flags, and after deciding to agree, what normally took them DAYS to get back to us about, took a mere matter of hours, and we were QUICKLY sent an NDA to sign, which we instantly refused to sign. At this rate, it seems the help of a legal team is the best option for proper advice. Had I found this site sooner, we'd of NEVER gone with these people. I'm probably forgetting a bunch of stuff, but this is a nutshell of what we dealt with. Frankly, asking a customer to sign an NDA over $200 is a serious red flag. WILL NO RECOMMEND OR USE AGAIN!

Refused to pay for services

Movers and customers beware of Colonial Van Lines! Hired us for a lumping job to load 25K. They had to reschedule Day 1 and Day 2 they were 2 hours late. The driver they hired is not a moving company and came with nothing to complete a move. No ramps, no dollies, no straps, no pads, no moving supplies period. Upon arrival, Bart tells me to do inventory. I ask him where the inventory sheets are and he tells me I need to grab them and inventory stickers also to print out a blank contract for them. Considering, I own a full service moving company I go get sheets printed and provide labels for them. I get back to the job site and the truck has finally arrived with no supplies. I contact Bart and ask what are we supposed to use and he goes I need you to go get supplies if I could find a local place and call back. I looked for moving supply store to find out there were only moving companies. I contacted Bart and he proceeded to look. He calls back and says he found supplies with 2 men and a truck in Colorado Springs but was waiting on a call back to confirm if they had what he had requested. After waiting 30 minutes to an hour I text him and let him know I will have one of my trucks pull up to provide supplies and charge him accordingly. He replies that will work that 2 men and a truck called back and they didnt have what he needed. I provided furniture pads, shrink wrap, tape, boxes, and everything needed to complete the job. After completing the job Bart goes i need you to complete the contract and have the customer sign in order to get paid. I have the customer sign for this crooked company, i then call for payment once again. He says he needs to call the customer and make sure everything went good. After confirmation that everything thing went good, he needed her to do a home inspection. I do a walk through with the customer to make sure all is well, she confirmed. I contact Bart to receive payment once again, he keeps blowing me off. The customer receives a call from Bart demanding payment in full to pay us, so I guess we arent supposed to get paid for the 2 days works and the supplies? We finished the job at 2:30pm and now after 5pm we have yet to receive payment. Took till 7pm and talking with multiple managers to get paid and they only paid partial, STAY AWAY! They also just called me Bart and Aldo threatening me to take posts down or be sued for defamation plus dispute the credit card charge for partial payment and make me fight for it. 8:05pm MST 12/17/2020
