Request refund for movie tickets and service fees

I purchased tickets and attended the Sound of Freedom for me with my daughter on August 8, 2023. We arrived for our show early at 5:30, bought our snacks and found our seats early. The movie started at 6:15pm. At approximately 6:45pm cineplex staff escorted a disabled women to her seat. This was after the start of the movie and the late guest and her escort caused a scene, making noise and had difficulty transferring from her wheelchair into her seat. This took approximately 5 minutes of them shouting and interrupting the important back story of the movie. The disabled person was seated next to me and continued to make requests of me to hold her seat down and concession items. After 10 minutes of them talking we had missed a part of the story line and could not catch up. I went to speak to the manager on duty, Joseph D, and asked if we could get new tickets to the later movie. He refused, stating all he could do was speak to them about being loud. I explained we had missed 10 minutes of the movie and could not follow the sorry line and wanted to attend later. He told us we would have to repurchase later tickets. I advised this wasnt our fault, staff actually interrupted the moving by allowing her in late, and unless they were going to restart the movie it was pointless to try and watch now. He refused saying there was nothing else he could do. I asked for someone else to speak with and he told me to go online and complain. He would not provide a phone number. I am very upset that my planned date night has been ruined with my daughter, and that this is the customer service experience that followed. cineplex do better!

The Hiding Place

Original review Aug 08, 2023
Up until now I have enjoyed the vast majority of our movies at the Scotiabank Theater in Saskatoon. Thursday, August 3rd, 2023, we went to The Hiding Place at this venue. We had our usual Costco tickets. Our tickets would not scan so the trainee called her manager over to assist. He informed me that we could not use our tickets for this particular film, but he did not provide us with a reason. He lamely claimed that he "just found this out" himself. So after not honoring our tickets, we had to pay to pay $33 to see the show, despite there being NO NOTICES anywhere online nor at the theatre that Costco tickets would not be accepted for this film. To add insult to injury, I ordered popcorn with layered butter. Instead, I received bone-dry popcorn covered in salt. Three mouthfuls in, I was treated to a long hair in my popcorn. In to the theatre garbage it went. The film was wonderful, but the overall experience at this theatre was unacceptable. Why were no notices posted regarding the use of Costco tickets not being accepted for this movie? Why are food staff not wearing hairnets? These are challenging times, and in keeping with your "great escape" tagline, I would have to say that this was one "great escape" I would not wish to experience again at ANY theatre. Such a disappointment after a much-anticipated evening out.

Cineplex Pickering, Ontario

Tonight (July 27) a group of 11 of us from PROBUS Lakeside went to the 6:15 pm showing of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, which was showing in theatre 4. Great movie but NO air conditioning with record heat temperatures outside. This made for a very uncomfortable viewing experience as we were sweating and stuck to our seats. It is a long movie, so with sweating also comes body odour for some. Not a pleasant experience. Needless to say as soon as the credits rolled the audience exited. A couple of our members complained to staff who were unmoved to say the least. We also found out that two of the theatres had no air conditioning. That is completely unacceptable. There was no air movement in the theatre at all and no notice that there was no air conditioning so viewers could have gotten their money refunded had they chosen not to sit in the heat. Even the offer of ice cold drinks for free would have been nice. Our group as a whole would like an explanation how the theatre thought it was okay to put their patrons through this uncomfortable experience. We do regular movie nights with our membership at this theatre.

Safety alert

Hello, I had a fall today, after I took one step into the row of seats. Yes, there was a sign prior to entering the theatre, warning that the floor may be slippery. My husband went to speak to management, and strongly voiced his concerns, as he uses a cane. The manager was apologetic, admitted that the floors were slippery, blamed it on the night cleaning crew, and humidity. He then offered free movie voutures, which we declined. We weren't after free tickets! This is an extremely dangerous situation. Luckily I was not hurt, but I cancelled my Cineplex membership once I got home, as this was and is a completely unacceptable situation. I hope that when the next person falls, that they too aren't seriously hurt.

Movie experience

Hello there. My girlfriend and I visited Cineplex VIP theatre at the Queensway location, Ontario Canada on July 8th. We purchased VIP tickets for the more upscale experience. Firstly we were disappointed to learn that the seats did not have the recline option like the other theatre at the Don Mills VIP theatre. We ordered our food and drinks and then the movie started, not the previews but the actual movie. The guests that sat next to us flagged down a worker and demanded a refund for a drink they did not like. The worker said they would have to go see a manager after the movie ended. About five minutes later and about ten minutes into the movie a worker came, stood right in front of my feet and started to speak to the guests next to me about the refund, and proceeded to use the interac machine to process the refund at which point the guests card was not working and this led to me missing over 5 minutes of the movie that I paid for, while my view was blocked because of the worker standing in front of me, and speaking loudly trying to give a refund to the guests next to me. This worker should not have done this and should have allowed the couple to go to manager AFTER the movie like stated before instead of disturbing the paying guests around them. I missed the first few minutes of what was said in the movie that I had waited so long to see. Very unprofessional and rude of the cineplex cast member to do this in this manner. I had a very poor experience after all.

Complaint

I had the most horrible experience recently at Milton cineplex. Is there a policy regarding fragrances in theatres? I was watching the new Indiana Jones movie with my family and was sitting next to a lady who was wearing the strongest fragrance. I couldnt breathe throughout the movie and being very sensitive to scents this was unacceptable. Also, it didnt help that a man had the most strongest body odour on the other side of me. Absolutely disgusting!!!

Call for supporth

I called when we ordered a movie online. The charge went through but said the movie was unavailable. I was unable to get a hold of anyone, despite trying several times. Horrible customer support service.

Met Opera Live in HD - unacceptable transmission

I have been subscribing to the Met Opera Live in HD for years, viewing at Cineplex's Scotiabank Theatre in Ottawa. Starting with Lohengrin on March 18 and again with Falstaff on April 1, the viewing experience has been unacceptable. Each screening is interrupted by numerous glitches, including periods of silence, worsening as the screening goes on. This would be annoying with any film shown in a theatre; for opera, it destroys the integrity of the experience to watch singers mouthing words we cannot hear. We were informed by staff at the theatre that Cineplex recently decided to mover from satellite reception to streaming. I can assure you that this kind of problem was exceedingly rare with satellite, and never went on for the three or four hours of a single opera, In the past I have enjoyed my experience so much that I have recommended to everyone I knew who enjoys music to buy tickets. Now I hesitate to do so, knowing that the experience will be sub-par on so many levels. I urge you to review the decision to move to streaming. I frankly cannot imagine continuing to buy tickets under the conditions that now seem to be regular occurences.
