The Central Florida Black Expo is a mess...

Updated by user May 01, 2013
As of May 1, 2013, Ms. Herring has not refunded my vendor fees from the Central Florida Black Expo 2012.

Three days before the event, Mr.

Herring postponed it for personal reason. She is currently advertising the Central Florida Black Expo 2013 to be held in August.

Ms. Yvondia Herring ignored a letter from the Better Business Bureau...

That\'s not a good sign for any business. Doesn\'t she care about her professional reputation? The Central Florida Black Expo was finally held yesterday, 10/21/12, I think. I still have not received my $500 refund for the postponed Expo in June.

Wonder how long it will take Ms. Herring to do the right thing and pay me back?

In June, I had paid $500 to be a vendor at the First Annual Central Florida Black Expo to be held on June 29-30 at the Orange County Convention Center. Three days before the Expo, Ms. Yvondia Herring, the Executive Director, postponed the event for personal reasons. I was shocked because 10,000 visitors were expected at this event and someone on Ms. Herring's team should have been able to take her place. I had spent $700 to attend this Expo and could not cancel my air fare or hotel reservations. The Expo was rescheduled for August 10-11, but I had decided to ask for refund of my vendor fee. Ms. Herring ignored my emails until I threatened to sue her for breach of contract. She claimed in an 8/20/12 email that my refund was being processed. Two weeks later and still no refund, I emailed her again and she claimed they were returning fees in order of receipt and asked if I would reconsider being a vendor at the Central Florida Black Expo in October. Apparently, the Expo has been rescheduled again and promoters are claiming 20,000 visitors will attend. I hope so for all the vendors who gave Ms. Herring their money. So far, she has refused to tell me when I can expect my refund. I have had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in Orlando and frankly, I doubt if I will ever get my money back. As a veteran of many Black Expos, I should have investigated this event and it's organizer before I committed myself to attend. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Cheers.
