Terrible service

Original review Aug 05, 2022
They have made my relocation a complete disaster. I have no idea why anyone would work with this company. The failed on every aspect of my relocation and are terrible with communication.

Terrible Service

Completely incompetent workers at Cartus, it took weeks to get in contact with them over the simplest issues. They completely botched my personal information and had no clue where they were even relocating me from even though my address was entered dozens of times. I have never experienced a relocation specialist so idiodic and useless in my entire life. I would much rather have the company pay me instead and do the relocation myself instead of pay these fools to do nothing.

International Relocation, outside of the USA

My relocation with family failed, mostly because of Cartus shortcomings, but also employer relocation policy issues. Cartus is supposed to be an expert in this field. Don't trust them too much.

False information provided, horrible customer service

I was assigned to Cartus as my company's relocation company. Have gone through three reps in 5 months. Horrible customer service by relocation consultants, takes multiple follow up to get a response. Consultant confessed to misquoting policy information on what was covered causing a few thousand dollars mistake that Cartus is unwilling to rectify. Employee is now out of pocket for Cartus mistake.

Relocation Nightmare

CARTUS owes me thousands in reimbursement fees, adding even more stress to the stressful times of relocation. The reimbursement auditors are incompetent and illiterate. When providing non-disputable proof of payments, the auditors will still decline the reimbursement request. This will happen even if your provided relocation policy is attached, and cited to them word for word with the exact payment verification highlighted to them that the funds need to be reimbursed. Customer service is impossible to get in contact with. They will take days to respond to immediate issues. My consultant told me from the first call that getting a hold of them was going to be challenging. THIS IS NOT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Once they finally do respond, they will provide a generic response without any legitimate effort to resolve the issue. This company does not care about their clients.

Crazy Delay and no response

My fiancee and I were scheduled to close on our house on 06/21/2019 but when the appraisal came back at 15k less than the offer price on 06/17/2019 contact was attempted multiple times from the seller(and Cartus') realtor and our realtor to renegotiate the price. Cartus never responded back to the realtors for 3 days, and when they did on Thursday 06/20/2019 they said that they would be reviewing it and just let the closing date pass without even a hint of consideration about the appraisal. It is incredibly frustrating that it can go an entire work week without somehow even responding when the house is suppose to close. How can a company demand timelines for loan approvals and inspections but then just have no responsibility when it comes to contacting back their own real estate agent? I am already looking at other houses just in case at this point because I don't have time to wait around for weeks for them to decide to even respond back.

Tutoring

In addition to being a relocation service, Cartus contracts with companies to provide tutoring. I made the mistake of signing on with them as a teacher. Lovely client, no complaint there, but their website for teacher support is a joke. Also, they are not too concerned about paying their tutors. I was told it would take "30 days" to get paid. Getting paid once/month is not unusual, but the woman who hired me emphasized "30 working days". That means 6 weeks. I marked it on my calendar. Today, about one month after I submitted the paperwork for the previous month (April) I find out that the accounting department has refused to pay me for the hours I spent tutoring two of the children (I also teach their mother) because I put both of their names on one time sheet. The whole family (mother and two sons) have one client number, so I thought it was one account. Now I have to get the papers resigned and done over again. Who knows what they will find wrong (i.e. an excuse) for not to pay me next? Meanwhile, I have put money out for books and tolls, gas etc. Also, tomorrow is the last time I will see the client as she is having a baby and going to London the following month. So if anything else goes wrong I will have no way to fix it. I would not continue to work for Cartus until they pay me. If you think this is the way all tutoring services operate, it's not so. I work for a US/Michigan based company and they're just fine. I get paid two weeks after I submit paperwork via an outsourced payroll service. They also order any needed books and send them to the student. Also, the woman who hired me doesn't return calls. Wish me luck as it could be months before I see a dime. If they fail to pay at all, I will have to take legal action. I sympathize with all the people who had relocation issues. If your company uses Cartus and they offer you Language lessons, in good conscience refuse as they do not pay the tutors.

They are crooks

My wife is a realtor. Had a friend moving back to the area. The friend contacted my wife directly. My wife was the buyers agent. Her husband works for a company that contracts their relocation through Cartus. Remember, the seller is responsible for paying the seller's commission. Remember, the buyers contacted my wife directly, NOT at the direction of Cartus. What does Cartus do? TAKE 42.5% OF MY WIFE'S COMMISSION!!! FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

Original review Jan 04, 2019
The client could not get responses from Cartus while they were selling their home. I was the agent that the client wanted to sell their home since I was their agent who first help buy the home that they are selling now. Cartus did not give me the referral but I had to sign up with them so the client could get the benefits that their employer was offering. The client ending up firing Cartus since he kept getting the run around when he was trying to get Cartus to accept the offer since it was going to be a quick 2 week close or the deal would go away. He ended up firing Cartus. via email since no one from cartus would answer his calls. He was told that Cartus would not pursue his signed agreement with them. Client called to tell me that Cartus was out of the picture and were not using Cartus. The preferred Title company "Independence Title" for Cartus even said they talked to Cartus and this deal. Since I trusted the preferred title company in what they knew about dealing with this relocation company. I never have done a deal with a relocation company. Now its over 3 months since it closed and CARTUS is saying I owe them the referral.....WHY???. If the client had fired them then my agreement should have not been valid. It looks like the preferred title company should have said something when they cut the commission check. I will not deal with a relocation company again and make sure everyone else know why.

Resolved: We didn’t trust them

We moved on to find another home.

Original review Sep 28, 2018
My husband and I made an offer on a lovely mid-century ranch in a nice area of town so that we could downsize. The house has been sitting on the market for over three months in an area that is highly desirable and where there is low inventory. It is priced too high per square footage, so we knew there were going to be issues. Something wasn’t right that this house was still on the market. We are seasoned homeowners. We have owned and maintained a single home for 28 years. We understand that no house is perfect. We also understand that an unbiased home inspection paid for by the buyer, with the contingency to walk away based on any findings that trouble us, is not only sensible, but in a buyer-beware state, our right. We also have an amazing and experienced broker who had our backs through this entire process. Our first sign of shady practice from Cartus was an insistence that the language that our broker added to their contract assuring us of this home inspection right be removed. We retained this legal right. The second sign we were dealing with some scrupulousity issues was their insistence we checkmark a box on their contract saying we had read their home inspection report on the subject house, when in fact we were never provided this report after multiple requests from our broker. We saw only the disclosure reports before making our offer and during the first 5-6 days of contract term negotiation. To finalize the contract, Cartus’s legal department required this box be checkmarked. We received the inspection report at this time, approximately 10 days into contract negotiation, when we were almost ready to sign. Suffice to say that the inspection report did not paint the rosy picture that the disclosures did. The house needed an entire new roof, even though the disclosure statement indicated it was 5-10 years old. There was a carpenter ant infestation noted by the inspector and a note to see the insect infestation addendum, which we never received. The fireplace, which we had verbally asked about because the gas had been capped off, but which we did not receive a response to, indeed had a problem and needed a liner and inspection. And the electric grounding needed work. We estimated a price range of $20-25k for these repairs. We made a new, much lower offer, so that we could make the repairs in a quality manner. We did not trust them to repair the property sufficiently. Had they agreed to meet us in the middle, the house would be sold. But they were unwilling to counter this second offer, instead inviting us to return to our initial and higher offer and allow them to make repairs. We walked. It’s a good thing.

Unbelievably horrible company

This is the worst company to ever work with. They don’t manage your relo at all throughout the process. Mismanaged timelines, vendors, etc. please please do your relocation yourself if you have the unfortunate situation where you have to work with Cartus.

Unbelievably Frustrating

This company makes it almost impressively difficult to get your reimbursement money back conveniently. I have give the lease, payment confirmations, and have called them and every month its an absolute nightmare trying to get my money from them. Right now they owe me 3 months worth of rent and are still refusing. I am just praying that I get my money at some point, but currently I am contacting them every day and trying new paperwork and methods of going through their reimbursement system. And every other day I get an email from them with a bogus excuse for why my lease and email confirmation isn't enough for them to think I am not just living in a box collecting free money.

Horrible experience- STILL NOT CLOSED... WHAT A NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE!!!

Buying our "first" home together, my husband and I, were so excited/elated to be doing so.... but unfortunately this company (Cartus) has made what should have been a very easy and pleasant transaction into a nightmare. They lack organization and follow up/response time along with a lack of professionalism and sense of urgency. So much so that we have seriously considered walking away from this deal and house, which would be a HUGE disappointment for us. We were scheduled/supposed to close today (Thursday) and we got a call at 4:30pm (talk about Cartus waiting til the "last minute") the evening before scheduled closing (Wednesday) telling us that they had to change our close date out for ANOTHER 5 days. My husband and I both have very hectic job schedules and worked very hard to get the time off needed to move us to our new home. This is also vacation time for us which I would say isn't a vacation at all. As two working professionals ourselves who had taken time off from work and are on a strict schedule, we have completely been inconvenienced. Talk about NO REGARD for the buyer (us) on Cartus' end. Another weekend and 5 days of living among all these moving boxes.. And we booked a moving company to help facilitate the move and now we are under the wire because the moving date has changed AGAIN due to Cartus lack of organization/urgency in getting their paperwork done on time... and the moving company is not sure they will be able to accomodate our new moving date which has been moved to almost a week out of the original date scheduled. Their treatment of their customers this way isn't only annoying but insulting. If I am ever in the situation of looking for a new home again, I can say with 100% certainty that I will NEVER purchase a home again that is listed through them or they have any involvement with. *** And I warn anyone to do yourself and family a big favor and STAY AWAY from Cartus All in all, they are awful to deal with and I would recommend all to find other more service-oriented companies to work with. Stay away from Cartus. Do yourself a big favor...save yourself the stress and hassle. It is not worth it. If you don't believe me, just google Cartus complaints and you will see for yourselves. ** We also left voicemails at the "Office of the President" with no return call at this point in time. ** I don't know if this is typical of all relo companies, but I'd suggest avoiding them, or at least avoiding CARTUS... ***
