NEVER got service

I paid my own premiums through Texas State Continuation Coverage. BCBSTX NEVER updated me in their database as having current coverage. Thus, everytime I tried to get healthcare, I showed up as being uninsured. My doctor ordered a hepatobiliary test. I tried for months to get it. I spent over 16 hours on the phone with BCBSTX, just trying to get them to update me in their system. Customer service reps were CLUELESS. Multiple times they transferred me to other states. One even transferred me out of BCBSTX to the healthcare exchange! Yet, they were taking my premiums. I NEVER got the test before I left the state.

Nothing is covered

Pretty much their mode of operation is to deny every claim. I thought BCBS was supposed to be better than UHG and Aetna. I would say that after five months, that is clearly not true. I feel sorry for anyone who has BCBS and has to navigate the process of having their claim addressed and paid.. Pathetic!

Denied medical treatment

I've had two MRIs over the last 2 years. I have spinal stenosis, a couple of ruptured discs, and several facets deteriorated to the point of bone on bone. I can't walk through the grocery store without back pain and leg numbness. Once again insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas) has denied treatment. The procedure was recommended by one of the top doctors at Precision Spine Care in Tyler, world renowned, can't get it approved. What a scam our country is playing on us when it comes to medical care.

Poor Customer Service

Each and every time you call to get benefit information you are on hold for an average of 2 hours. They believe that their IVR system tells you all you need to know, but it doesn't. This clearly creates a delay in care. Horrible customer service.

Live customer service.

It is hard to get live customer service. Wait time is about 2-5 hours. Other insurance companies has live person you can talk with if there is any question.nan

Disgusted with service

I called in today(3/2/2021) to find out what is covered as far as birth control and instead of helping me I was directed to a site that didn't explain a damn thing. I have been trying to get my prescription taking care of since we switched over to BCBS in January(1st week). I HATE IT! This insurance doesn't cover anything none of the Dallas doctors take it. Its useless I have to go to CVS since BCBS doesn't deal with Walgreens anymore. CVS doesn't have anything you need, and they are overpriced. WIsh the city would have stuck with CIGNA

I pay to get screwed!

It happened again. I pay for BCBS to screw us on prescriptions. Got a generic antibiotic today for $34.62 through the FREE GoodRx app that BCBS wanted $119.00! Less than a third! I also get a generic Crohn's Disease drug for $90 GoodRx and over $300 through BCBS! Again less than a third! I hear a lot of politicians talk about drug prices but no action. Does anyone have a good explanation?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas sucks

I am extremely tired of the runaround. BCBSTX is doing everything they can to avoid providing coverage for a prescription that my doctor authorized. I am a business owner and I provide coverage for myself and my employees through BCBSTX, but I am sick of them taking my large monthly payments and then doing everything to avoid providing coverage. I will be dropping them ASAP.

SERVICE IS TERRIBLE

I called regarding health insurance for my daughter while she was in between jobs. The reps were sure fast on signing her up and when she paid she still didn't receive her enrollment card. Then she called again. After a month and a half she had not rec'd her enrollment card and it turns out that they had her enrolled and they were supposed to take it out auto but that got screwed up too. So, as it is now - my daughter didn't have insurance and was supposed be issued a refund 3 weeks ago. The gal said that it would be there 7 l- 14 days. its been three week no refunds. This is absolutely unacceptable. This has been messed up from the February 2020. I called today and was disconnected twice. This unacceptable as well. Don't you people care. The reps should be on this asap as well as customer service.

Dont cover much

We pay a lot through my husband's employer. As of this summer my daughter is fighting a rare autoimmune disease that is attacking her brain, she also needs orthodontic braces, but the only way BCBStx will cover them is if she has a crossbite. She doesn't but she does have so much overcrowding that when she goes for cleanings, it will be very detrimental to have her teeth properly spaced or bacteria could make her have a flare. flares and illnesses van make her OCD worse which in return will make us have to have IVIG as a treatment which is nearly 15000. Thanks bcbs of texas for covering nothing.

Appalling. Simply appalling.

October 10: I sent BCBS the information they 'needed' and STILL have not received the check for the $280 they AGREED to pay. If they think I am letting this rest, they are sadly mistaken. Maybe time to talk to my lawyer about this matter?

August 16 update: I have not heard a single word from BCBS and STILL have not received the payment ($280) that they previously AGREED to pay. How is it that companies like this are allowed to get away with this garbage? Sadly, I realize that there are people owed 10 or...

Original review Jul 17, 2019
My husband died in February of this year after a long battle with cancer. Although we live in Wisconsin, the family coverage policy was through BCBS/TX per his employer. Following his death, I had numerous bills to deal with, including two from separate ambulance providers. Both of these were 'out-of-network.' I then had to make one call after the other to BCBS regarding these bills and the agreed-upon portion that they would pay. Although the first of these claims was (finally) paid, BCBS has NOT paid their portion for the second claim. After my complaint to the BBB, I received a ridiculous letter from BCBS/TX, letting me know that before they can send a check in MY name for this amount, that I have to prove I am 'the estate.' What??? I uploaded a copy of my husband's death certificate as proof, listing me as his spouse. My name was also listed on the insurance policy as a covered individual. I have absolutely had it with the disgraceful and petty 'response' from this company and have no intention of letting this matter drop until I receive a check for the amount that they previously AGREED to pay. This company rakes in a fortune each year from their policyholders, but refuse to pay me the $280 that they said they would? Disgusting.

EXHAUSTED

I just got BCBS Tx in Feb 2019 and it has been one big nightmare dealing with them! They transfer you about 5x each call and you can never speak ro same person you told problem to so you have to start all over! I am coming from a PPO and have never had ANY problems w getting my monthly medication injection but w them it is one fiasco after another!! Ex keep sending prior auth form to old DR OVER AND OVER even though I call and tell then each month it's wrong I have to have this meds 26-31 day window and I even call and confirm weeks before it is due. I have spend 40 hrs on the phone w them ( yes I keep a record with time) since Feb 1 2019! I have 20 pages of documentation of notes I have taken **** BTW- if it matters- I have the highest most expensive plan a person can get!! I pay $480 a month

Mental Health Claim

I have had nothing but trouble trying to make a complaint. First they told me the wrong place to file a claim. Then they told me I needed additional information without telling me what I needed. I had to be on hold for an hour to get the information about what additional information I needed. Then I found out my service provider doesn't even have the additional information. And, I have to resubmit the claim rather than being amend my previous claim. It feels like an attempt to avoid paying a complaint.

Ridiculous

In May 11 2019 i called about a claim that had not been properly completed by blue cross blue shield of Texas, so I called and was on the phone for 1 hour and the person I was on the phone to said how about this goodbye and hung up the phone. The best part is he won’t have no recourse from treating a policy holder that pays $1300.00 a month like trash

Watch your appeals!

In 2017 after having a ct scan it was found I had several new kidney cancer lobes in my abdominal area. My oncologist ordered a pets test to see if the cancer was anywhere else on my body. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas stated this test was not necessary and the claim was denied. After several documented appeals from myself, clinic and Doctor Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas refused to pay for pets. The last reason for payment was past due to time has run out for appeals. My guess is I was approaching my 65th birthday and they would be done with me being Medicare would start. I'm stuck with the $5000 bill.

3/5

The worst health insurance company

I have been denied on my claim which is no small amount ($9400) after it was pre-approved and pre-authorized. The doctor, anesthesiologist and hospital are all in network as "participating providers" which BCBS readily admits. They are all on their own website as participating providers. The loophole that they are using to deny and not pay the claim is that the are a participating provider in network but it is an institutional claim. Which doesn't make sense to me and I am a licensed Health and Life insurance sales person and have been for 6 years. We checked all the boxes and made sure ahead of time that the procedure would be covered only to find that Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas will not pay the claim and they do not care. Unfortunately they don't care about negative reviews either and they don't respond or seem to bother with the claims side of their business. They just say, we have 32 divisions of BCBS and we are too big to deal with a small insignificant problem like this. It may seem small and insignificant to a large corporation like Blue Cross Blue Shield but $9400 is a significant amount to me. At this point I hope the government gets their way and takes over the health care industry and puts companies like this out of business for good. You get what you deserve.
