A disaster and a 3rd party contractor nightmare

Belfor was there the day I needed them...that was it. Since then it took them 11 months to finish a job that was fairly simplistic. Then 3rd party contractor nightmare began. They sent in at least 8 different companies/teams/people to work on the same job. The quality of the work was so horrendous that I had to spend an extra $10k (that they will pay for) to correct all of their mistakes. There were day when I watch the workers (no lie) sweep in circles while on the phone. 1 contractor came a day and did nothing but play on his phone. I'm not a micromanager however, they needed to be managed. I never got involved because I wanted my room to be finished. There is no way this business should be allowed to operate they way they do and certainly not the managers who constantly lie and sway you into thinking "their way". Just awful. Stay away from Belfor!

Horrible project manager James

2 1/2,months and only 1 and 1/4, pieces of sheet rock up. James kept stalling. Granted people got covid. But on second day Francisco showed up sick. Call me to let me know he was at my house sick I told him to have him leave make sure he locked up shut the door I got home she was in the lock box at my front door was not locked But wide open. What they say they process then after I gave them the money process and then they cancel that and then they didnt know how long it would take. At this point we parted ways they have over $5000 for me of work they did not due.. at this point I am waiting for the owner of the top manager to call me back to see about getting my money back for a couple of months down the road I would never recommend poor quality of work. Left drywall pieces all over the house, it was just a mess. I am so glad they are not gonna finish doing my work. Because Im sure the quality of the work would love to have what I what would make me happy

Wanting more money from the insurance compay or me after 1 year.

Belfor requested $17,134.62 more from my insurance company or me. The insurance stated that the company has requested way more than they were entitled to and have reached their policy limit and will not pay any more. I have no money. I am a 70 year old female and have assistance with my medication,Dr bills, hospital and electric bills. Now I am diagnosed with memory lose. They want to put a lein on my property. I can't afford and attorney. I had a friend help me in the past as Belfor tried to commit fraud by charging for doors and windows they never replaced. Also for all the appliances, also a toilet ,sink and bathtub and kitchen sink. I had them redo my ramp and was charged $140.00 but it is not safe as there is no support under it . I use a walker to get around. I will contact legal aide to see if they can help.

Price gauging

My insurance company contacted belfor as a result of a flood in my basement. When they came out I assumed their services were covered by the insurance company. Once it was determined that insurance would not cover the water damages they packed up their equipment and left. Now 2 months later I receive an invoice for 2100.00 dollars for service and a threat to put a lien on my property. They sat fans in my basement for two days and now thy are saying I owe them 2100.00 and there was still water as if they had never came. Exactly what do you want me to pay for your presence. I would pay if I owe but they didn't provide any service.

Avoid Belfor at all costs.

Hire in February 2018 to restore a home post fire, and they still have not completed the job and it is 2/28/2020. They do not show up on the days they are scheduled to the work. The work they do complete is sloppy and substandard. They are rude and argue with you when you ask them to correct something. The walls bowed, the stove was not vented, the flooring has soft spots that were pointed out to them prior to flooring be installed. No nail holes were filled, Appliances were not installed properly. ?I am looking for anyone else in the Minnesota area who has had the same experience, I would like to do a New story and expose them for the scammer they are. They never provided us with a billing invoice and just kept verbally quoting us different amounts they claim we own. Adam will not return calls, or do a walk through of the home so that issues can be discuss. He did send Cliff to my home to yell, threaten and shake his fist at me. I'm contacting the Attorney General and if anyone would like to be involved please respond back!

As of Feb 16, 2019 this job still has not been completed. We will update with positive rating if resolved properly and promptly.

Original review Feb 16, 2019
BELFOR Grand Rapids, MI We had a house fire 12/2017. Belfor sent out subcontractor right away. This is where the positives end. Unfortunately, they did improper work, took unsafe shortcuts and Belfor ended up firing them and promised to finish the work promptly and properly. It took them several months to fire subcontractor and own their responsibility. Belfor continually missed appointments, would install things improperly, used improper color paint to finish paint work, did drywall incorrectly, would show for some appts for a couple of hours say they were returning and never return. Our cabinets still have not been installed. They have brought them out 3 different times sized incorrectly in the last 9 months alone. Numerous other issues. Not installing electrical outlets according to current codes. Had someone install wallpaper who had never done it. Wallpaper falling off walls and not to edges of casings. Belfor said they would fix right away. Last promise to fix was Dec 2018. Apologetic, yet no follow through. It is now Feb 2019 and they have made no attempts to set up any appointments to fix their mistakes or finish job. Even insurance company is not getting responses from them. Belfor trying to blame insurance company. Insurance company said they have been unable to get Belfor to respond or schedule anything. Belfor fraudulently accepted contract and paid for it by insurance for work they were unable to professionally provide workers for. When we pointed out mistakes, improper electrical, improper wallpapering with pictures, emails, voicemails, etc we were constantly assured it would be fixed, and eventually ignored completely. Now Belfor wants to cash us out for less than $800 for a contract they have not completed and received over $10,000.00 for. Just to get the wallpaper redone would cost over $4,000.00 alone. That doesn't count the electrical, heater covers they took and have not replaced, cabinets they say they have and are built correctly yet not installed, and they have all our extra paint that has not been give to us yet. We are still waiting for an amicable resolution and Belfor to finish the work. Belfor told us that the subcontractor they fired hurt them with more than 10 other properties......they were taking a loss correcting all their mistakes. That is not the fault of the Homeowner and we should not be bullied to settle for work not getting done. We should not be bullied for telling the truth and reporting poor workmanship. Belfor should not be paid for work that has not been completed. Any repairs are on Belfor. It is the job of the Insurance company to hold them accountable. It has been 14 months for a 4 month job and it is still not completed. Belfor could improve by not taking advantage of disabled widows of the Military community and finish the job they were paid to complete.

Refuse to compensate for damage they caused and terrible overall service

Belfor was chosen by my landlords insurance company to fix a small water damage in my flat. The overall work and handling can just be described as terrible. They damaged some of my property and just refuse to do any compensation. The complete story is to long to translate. You can read it on a special webpage I prepared (in Germany, so please use Google Translate or something similar). https://www.belfor-probleme.de

Promised a warranty of work not offered by anyone else

AAA recommended Belfor for my bathroom remodel after a leak. They charged $6,500 for mold mediation which was basically a fan that my tenants complained about the whole time. I went ahead and hired Bellflor because they said they were the only company that would warranty the work, along with AAA lifetime of the job. I had a tile shower it was wheelchair accessible and asked to put in a cheap acrylic tub instead. This should have been a significant savings. But they tried to charge me an additional 1000 on top of my 1000 deductible I already gave them. For the $179. Fan replacement and for clearing the sewer line, tentant said didn't work after install. I was told they found baby wipes in the sewer line but my tenants kids were out of diapers. When I got to the property and saw the crack in the tub, the huge gap without calk and misaligned surround I called you find out how long that warranty was. Also tub cracked because of no support underneath installed. They told me 30 days. It took them nearly fifteen days to get the piece to cover the faucet because the plumber had cut the hole in the wrong place. Give me a break! I did get AAA to reimburse my tenants rent since they had no bathroom for over a month. But when I called AAA to ask about this warranty I got my head bit off. This nasty friend of the boss's wife at AAA in OKC told me right away if I dare to make another claim let alone a water claim she would make sure I could never get insurance again, let alone be able to afford it!! True to her word my insurance went up $3,000 overnight! I changed companies right then! I still pay the same rate but she's not getting a penny of it. I don't know what kind of ding she put on my name but six years later I am still paying $3,000 a year for insurance. Im sure that makes her happy. in an area that normally cost around 695 to 995 a yr. (I paid 695 first 9 yrs of owership.) I get mailers all the time from Agents telling me they could give me a better rate even... from my own agent! Until I call them and then they say oh no we can't give you that rate those cards are mailed from corporate you have to pay 3000. She really should not have the power to do that I don't try to *** people off on purpose. Neither should i have to walk on egg shells for her. This lady is very vindictive. I grew up loving AAA in Southern California. But I won't have nothing to do with them in Oklahoma anymore because of Baste, female co worker, who likes to scream into phone at people who have "pocket called" Not necessary, Just hang up. What a circus act.

*** work and then threaten to file a lien on my house

My insurance company hired Belfor to do work on my house when i had a water leak. They repaired walls and replaced tile. The problem is that when the "fixed" the wall, it came out totally out of plumb and crooked and now doesn't line up with the tile. I have been trying to negotiate with them as I still owe them some money. They refuse to repair the work because they claim the original wall was crooked (which is ridiculous) and are now threatening to put a lien on my house unless I pay them. I am looking to possibly start a class action lawsuit and would be interested to hear from others who have had a similar experience. Here is what my wall looks like: https://www.pissedconsumer.com/review-pictures/tmp/623376b2295f5ac7873d305ac52151eb.jpg Looks like something out of a fun house.

Not doing what they were paid to do

Had a house fire jan 2016. Metlife brought belfor in out of Westchester to salvage my tools and stuff in garage. Got items back 4 months later nothing was touched or cleaned. Tried working out stuff with them but to no avail. Now im in the process of filing a lawsuit against belfor for breach of contract and damages incured.

Terrible service

They did a remodel of our kitchen after water damage. They did a half *** job. Cabinets are falling off and plumbing sucked. Just an all around bad job they did. I wish we never used them. Feel like suing them for shoddy work. I would never recommend them to another person needing repairs. The insurance company paid them directly and that’s why it was probably so awefull. I am filing complaints everyday and on multiple sites. I hope they see these complaints. They need to come and repair our service. How many more words until i reach one hundred? Why does it require so many words?

Incompetent and now suing ME!

When my house burned down in 2012, I turned to Belfor for the construction based on their size and relationships with insurance carriers. The rebuild turned out to be a horror show. I won't place ALL the blame on Belfor, but when all was said and done I was bankrupt and tried to give the partially constructed house to the bank. That's when Belfor slapped a lien on the property, even though they would've received an additional $100K+ for the 90% inspection. Now they are taking me to court for $225K for the unbuilt house. Did I mention I'm bankrupt? Now I have to engage a lawyer. They made, in my opinion, several mistakes in the build - foundation footing not poured correctly, not accounting for drainage for the building, inability to have utilities turned on for literally months. My suggestion: Use ANYONE other than Belfor. My neighbor whose house was also a total loss from the fire used a local contractor and had a new home in less than a year. I have nothing but stress and heartache from the Belfor experience.
