Original review Sep 02, 2023
So my husband had gone to the "new Aspen Dental in Jasper Indiana a few years prior, and they accept our dental insurance which has been a tough time finding a practice that accepts it. I had several broken upper teeth and quite a few others that just needed removed. I have severe anxiety and I get panicked easily in any doctor office especially dental, which I expressed to Carey the financing officer, and she had me go to her office after my initial appointment and she was pushing financing through them even though I stated that I would not need it, bc I had the money to cover it, she suggested strongly that I go ahead and apply for it JIC I didn't have the funding. Now I requested the day of my procedure that she not file the financing because I had the money due in full, she assured me that she didn't. Well I was waiting for the dentist and she said that she couldn't stop thinking about me since my initial appointment and then she outright refused to remove all my teeth since my bottom teeth were still in good shape minus a few cavities. Dr. Gebru did an excellent job with the removal of my teeth, however after she finished I went looking for Carey to get payment made and a receipt. Carey was no where to be found. I asked Taylor at the front desk where she was and about payment and receipt. She said that it was fine and I was good to go. So I then received a financial statement for the financing that wasn't supposed to be filed, and I was told that the dentist was in network and my insurance was great, so I was quoted around 3000 for upper dentures. That amount was paid, but then I received a bill in June stating that I owe another 3 grand.. I called relentlessly and I was constantly told that Carey was not available or not there, I contacted both my primary insurance and dental, primary insurance contacted Aspen and stated that they were told that I spoke with them on June 19th (which I NEVER did) and that we had resolved the issues, we most certainly did not. I cancelled any further appointments that had been made, and I contacted my dental insurance in regards to fraudulent charges for procedures that were supposed to be free like the initial exam x-rays etc, plus a dental cleaning that I have covered by my insurance 3× yearly, they billed me for all those things and they won't provide me with a break down of services rendered so my dental insurance can confirm that I received everything I was billed for. I was lied to, the Dr. was "not in my network" despite me asking repeatedly. When I went for my cleaning they billed it as an oral exam done by a dentist that I never met nor received any treatment from. Subsequent calls by me had been made to contact Carey, but she was never available according to Taylor. My dental insurance wants me to provide a itemized bill, but I never received one, only an estimate. Stay away from the retail dentistry known as Aspen Dental, go to a reputable dentist and get the proper treatment and billing. I've already contacted my state's AG about the situation and I have been trying to get my itemized bill and x-rays to get the rest of my dental work done elsewhere, however they make excuse after excuse and even hang up on you, and lie to your insurance company. STAY FAR FAR away from Aspen Dental!!

Inappropriate language

In your Wichita Falls Texas office, I encountered an extremely pushy dentist, who insisted I apply for financing for implants for my lower dentures, even though I insisted I'm on disability and can't. When I encountered the financial lady she was dismissive of my complaint and when the dentist overheard he even cursed at me. I'm sure it was in an area where cameras are being financed, and honestly I just wanted to pay for a cheap set of dentures, not encounter a high pressure salesmen, I guess I will pay someone else for teeth but I really hope nobody else has to have this experience. I am autistic and already have enough problems trying to go out in public and this dentists behavior is totally unacceptable

I went to the Aspen in Forsyth IL.I went in for a broken back tooth which become abscess 3 times during my visits there. They began with telling me I would need 9000.00 for work that needed done.

I told them to just take care of my broken tooth. Had to go to another dentist to get it pulled. I ended up paying for things they never did because of the loan to care credit.I didn't want to ruin my credit. I called corporate.they banned me from their practice. There's more I need to add. Would love to talk to a lawyer!!!

Don’t go stay away

What ever you do STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They are bullies. Even though I told them that I have huge anxiety they were still rude to me . The hygienist was almost an hour late taking me back. While knowing that I have a huge fear of dentists, dental offices and have white coat phobia, she rudely said to my husband " YOU CAN'T GO BACK." If this was told to us prior to our visit, we would have prepared. But no, they just like bullying you along with making you cry and develop hives from the stress, anxiety and rudeness. Bulled us almost $900. For a cleaning. That they said I needed a special treatment but somehow reading all the other reviews I believe they are gouging people.

Multiple Implant Failure

Had 2 implants fail and got them replaced then had another fail.No longer comfortable with my dentist(Uttakumar Patel) I got a second opinion as to why I had 3 implants fail and the dentist at True Smiles said that the bone wasnt built up properly and I need to go to a specialist to have the work done properly and to ask for a refund. I did so and was blacklisted.(They sent mail saying so.)I asked if he could take out the implant as I was in pain he refused. It fell out after nearly a week of barely being able to eat.

Teeth have never fit

I went to Aspen Dental in OKC on Penn and Meridian in NOVEMBER 20221 to have my teeth pulled then to get dentures. $10,000 in total up front. The lady took me back and pulled all my teeth , Half one day and the other half the next day because they couldn't give me any more deadening stuff because of me being on pain management. Then l got the " bandaid " set of dentures. They made me *** terribly so big l couldn't ware them for any length of time. this was during the pandemic. They said they didn't have a person on site who makes the denture at this time so they would have to send the mold out to someone who makes dentures and it would take 2 weeks. It took longer l can't remember how long. So l get the teeth and could ware them home to see how they fit and then make adjustments if need be. I thought they didn't look right and my family also . They made me have an over bite and buck teeth. I looked like a horse .They looked like someone else's dentures .So went back and told them. "these won't do" then l realized that they had no idea of how to make an appropriate mold of my teeth because they didnt make a mold prior to pulling them. The dentist sent them to be adjusted . Had to wait another 2 weeks. I got those teeth was to ware them then come back if needed a adjustments. By this time it was approximately April of 2022. I couldn't make it back for an adjustment that was needed because l had emergency surgery on my back. Then rehab to learn to walk again. The teeth didn't fit so l couldn't eat with them and hurt to bad to ware them. I was so depressed. A little time had passed. I don't know how much because l couldn't think straight. I'm 65. So my sister called and made my appointment. I saw the dentist and told him how my teeth should look, the size .These were to long and went to far back He looked at my bite with the teeth in and said l had a bite down with a slide to the left.He said l probably couldn't wear dentures. Im thinking what? l saw a comertial that said" if your not satified we will give you a refund on your teeth" So l went in and asked for a refund. I had a diffrent dentist each time i went in but this time l had the same one he talked me out of it.So he made another upper mold "We never make a new mold and new denture just adjustments" . You can only make so many adjustments to a denture. The teeth looked better so went home for few days to see how they fit. Some where in this time they had given me a paper to sign stating that l had 3 more visits to make any adjustments. I still had to eat but not with teeth. So l would eat foods that l could gum it. I'm a right side chewer and l noticed there was a a lower gruve on the right lower. So l have one more visit to adjust them. Had a new dentist and explained this whole mess and still my teeth don't fit and have that gruve. He told me to go to Affordable Dentures, he knew a dentist there that could help me.l went there with daughter in law, explained it' all. They were no help. I'm so depressed have no self confidence self worth I'm not myself, I am nothing. My family are worried .They see the Chang The last dentist l saw at Aspen had said if that doesn't work out bring the teeth back and you can have a refund. So it has been about 3 weeks and thinking what to do. It is June 2023. This is such a big mess. I need help. I feel like Im drowning. Im a good person and have never given a review. I dont like to hurt people or in this case an organizaytion. At this point l just want my teeth to fit.I'm going to make an appointment. I better not have to pay. I will not refer anyone. And l will call Bob in your Corner. He is with the OKC News! After my visit l will come back and do another review on what happens.

Billing

Incorrect Billing. I have contacted them several times stating that this invoice was paid. No one is helping. they transferred me multiple times and now they are stating that the systems are not working for the last two months. I keep getting an invoice in the mail and I don't want this to go to collections.

Faulty dentures

I purchased my son a set of dentures after a multitude of dental problems. I paid $8000. About two months in a tooth fell out of the denture. He lost a day of work getting it repaired and when he first arrived was told they couldnt fix it that day because the person who did repair was not in , he got angry, then suddenly they could fix them that day and they did. The lady there told him the uppers are just for show you should not bite with them Isnt that what your teeth are for??? To eat. About 2 weeks later while eating pizza he lost a different tooth , and swallowed it . He recovered it , sterilized it and took another day off work. Well what a surprise when the repair person is not there. Another guy comes to the desk and says he will fix them. My son goes back later and it literally looks like they took a blob of hot glue and stuck the tooth in . Glue oozing everywhere. Well $8000 later he has faulty made , glue showing , *** tooth dentures. I have made no less than about 30 calls to the offices and corporate. See you all in court!! P.s after they glued the tooth that had gone through his digestive system back in , they said they could of used a spare they had in the office, well why didnt you say that before you glued the *** tooth back in?

Filing a complaint about customer service

Id like to file a complaint about how a particular employee treated me at the Lake Orion/Auburn Hills location. According to his business card his name is Jonathan LeBlanc and he is the Treatment Plan Coordinator, but in my opinion he has no business dealing with people in a public setting. I was told that their record systems were down recently so they did not have my prior medical and insurance information And needed to refill medical forms and show insurance again. Since I wasnt warned of this when my appointment was scheduled the day before, I did not have my insurance cards on hand as I expected my information to be in the system like usual since I am a regular customer at this location. However there was a discrepancy when they searched for my insurance, as the insurance I am on is from Missouri and they were looking for a michigan account. Jonathan told me that the plan was showing inactive for all members, and despite me insisting that there must be an issue since I am a normal customer and nothing has changed, he just kept repeating that my insurance plan came up as inactive without really trying to help beyond that. Since my mother is the account holder for the insurance, I then called her a little bit flustered from the situation because I am experiencing bad tooth pain and was hoping to have a speedy problem focused exam to get the treatment I need asap. Jonathan heard me talking on the phone with my mother, and when she told me she didnt understand because her plan was still active and I replied to her that I keep telling them that but they keep saying it is not active, Jonathan erupted at me and told me that if Im going to be a jerk about it, I can just leave and go somewhere else. I found that to be extremely unprofessional, especially since I wasnt acting out of line or even talking to him in the first place. Ive been a customer here for almost 2 years and have received multiple procedures here including a bridge, so I found it a bit shocking the way Jonathan treated me as if Im some sort of expendable patient here since I was a little flustered that they had a system error and lost all my information. Luckily the real receptionist Alyssa is a saint and very professional, and I was able to talk with her on the way out. But Jonathans behavior has stuck with me, and I wont be returning to Aspen dental because of it. He made me feel unwelcome and I dont think he should dealing with customers if thats how he reacts to a slightly disgruntled patient who is upset because of a problem they caused.

Failed Bone Graft Procedure and Extra Charges

Updated by user May 08, 2023
I have called the Aspen Headquarters Office in Syracuse, New York about 7-8 times since this happened and I left numerous messages. I have not received one phone call back to help get this situation resolved.

Original review May 08, 2023
To Whom It May Concern: On the date of service above (4/20/23), I had a tooth extraction and bone graft completed by Dr. Darcy Allen at the Delta Dental in LaVale, MD. The extraction was successful; however, during the bone graft procedure, Dr. Allen remarked several times how she was having trouble completing the suturing of the bandage. The bandage was not sutured correctly and my empty socket became extremely infected and abscessed, causing me extreme pain. I called the emergency number since it was after hours five times before I ever received a call back from the on-call dentist, which was Dr. Allen. She called back close to 10 p.m. telling me there was nothing she could do for me and that a dry socket is normal. When I asked to please prescribe pain medication as I was in the most intense and excruciating pain I had ever experienced, she said she could not. I could not get back in with Dr. Allen to fix the bandage until she returned from being out of town that following Tuesday (four days after the procedure). On the day before that (Monday 4.23), Dr. Howard Strausss office called saying they had a cancellation and asked if I could come in. I was off work from being in such intense pain (I missed 3 days all together because of this dental nightmare.). I ended up coming in and he said my mouth was a mess. He completed an irrigation procedure and a few days later, he completed a second procedure completely removing all of the failed bone grafting material and filling my empty socket with a bandage soaked in clove oil which greatly reduced my pain. I am writing this email to request a refund of my $436 back that I paid out of pocket to Aspen Dental in LaVale, MD on the date of my procedure (4/20/23). A few days ago, I received a bill from my insurance (Delta Dental) requesting that I pay $631.60 for the dental work completed on the date of service 4/20/23. There was no record on that bill that I paid Aspen Dental $436 that day, out of pocket, although I have the receipt to prove it. I was told by a receptionist at Aspen Dental that I would not have to pay any other fees out of pocket, as the rest of the procedure was covered by my insurance. That was not the case. I have tried calling your headquarters numerous times to discuss this terrible situation with no luck getting through to a human. I have left several messages and nobody has called me back. Please call me to discuss this at my cell number (304) 790-****. I hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, BM

Was ask to complete survey

I came in to have extractions and get implants. I saw Dr. J (I can't remember his name) he referred me to an oral surgeon. He was honest and upfront when he told me that he didn't have the experience that's going to be needed in my case. I will admit that I was aggravated and upset that it was going to be another set back and dragging out time that I don't have and I apologize that I was curt with him. So I got an appointment with Etown oral surgeons for full mouth extractions, 5 upper bone grafts and placement of 2 upper and 2 lower implants for 3/9/23 So I came back to Aspen to have the impression made for a healing immediate denture that they were going to put in the day of surgery. So you guys have 3 types of dentures you sell. The basic, the classic and the comfylite. I have southern States Team Care Local Union health, vision and dental. The dental is managed by Humana. Humana pays 100% for the basic denture but out of the 3 you have, the comfylite is the only one that is implant compatible, so technically that makes the comfylite the basic denture for implants. When the insurance received the predetermination, the code used for billing was for the basic with an upgrade to comfylite. So humana automatically thought that I chose to upgrade since they didn't know that it was the only denture they could use. So jennifer called humana and gave them the 4 codes that Aspen uses to bill and humana told her that they weren't in their system. I contacted Team Care several times explaining and asking for a code they recognize that would not say upgrade because with that word, humana would leave me with $1,200 to pay. I just kept getting the same thing said over and over. "We can't give them the code to use since that would be considered coaching" and I kept repeating that there wasnt any point in doing that because they wouldnt pay the 100 % with the code you have. So finally I ask for an escalation Supervisor. When she read all the dashboard messages etc she said that I shouldn't have had to be put threw all this crap and that she was going to call Humana and tell them that they needed to do whatever it took to get my mouth fixed. So Humana called Jennifer to discuss how to bill them so that they would pay correctly. Humana ask Jennifer to fax them a predetermination while they were on the phone so that she could give Jennifer the amount that they would pay but for some reason, Jennifer wouldn't do it. I had an appointment and had my impression for the healing immediate denture made. The next appt was scheduled for 3/3/23 for ? More impression stuff I guess. I received an email the day before my appointment saying they needed to talk to me ASAP. So I called and about fainted when Jennifer said that since I had filled out a form just like this one that was text to me and complained about the other Jennifer and that Humana told her during their call that I had filed a complaint against Aspen for not knowing how to bill them, they felt that my being a patient wasn't a good fit and they were dismissing me from their care! WHAT?? First, I never ever filed any complaints against Aspen with Humana. I have done nothing wrong. My health is getting worse the longer I have this mouth full of infection but that doesn't concern your Dr. He is a PPO Provider for Humana, therefore he is held to Humana's higher code of conduct, which he abandoned when he chose to refuse me treatment for Absolutely No Reason. Humana has denied that they told Jennifer that I filed a complaint against Aspen and they are also concerned with the way I was personally treated by this office and forcing me to have to start over with another provider, which is almost unbearable considering the pain I have on a daily basis. Humana pointed out that even if I were a big trouble maker, you were just going to have to see me on the 3rd then again on the 9th so they feel like there's more to this and ask if I would allow them to look around a little. And since Jennifer said that one reason was because I filled out this survey and voiced my concern with the other Jennifer. They said that is clearly retaliation. Being a nurse for over 30 years, I've seen enough of that to have to agree. Of course retaliation or whistle blowing has a strict Zero tolerance policy. One more thing I'd like to address is that the day Jemnifer said I was being dismissed as their patient, I begged her Please dont do this! She promised to talk to her supervisor and her doctor again about it but instead, she was busy cancelling my financing that was already paid to you for my denture. I want yo state for the record that I didn't deserve this, I didn't ask for this and I don't want the insurance companies to have to investigate. Thats not who I am but my well being is of no interest to this office and the distress they have carelessly caused me is inexcusable so hopefully the outcome will prevent this garbage from happening to someone else that's depending on you to save their life.

ASPEN DENTAL VERO BEACH stole our $, lied about treatment plan, and refuses to produce dentures we've PAID IN FULL for

Updated by user Apr 02, 2023
CONSUMER BEWARE. As of this posting, along with reporting Aspen Dental Vero Beach to FL Dept of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs they have done absolutely nothing to remedy their wrongdoing and make our family whole again. On the contrary, we received a passive...

Original review Feb 23, 2023
RE: ASPEN DENTAL EGREGIOUS NEGLIGENCE, BREACH OF CONTRACT, BAIT AND SWITCH It is now fifteen months since our initial encounter with Aspen Dental of Vero Beach FL. My disabled spouse, having been denied the completion of his treatment plan is still forced to use this (broken in half) temporary partial that requires constant gluing at home in order to speak, chew, or swallow. (SEE EXHIBIT A). At the onset of our relationship with this provider, in November 2022 my husband (a.k.a. Mr. O) met twice with Dr. F. Cumplido when seeking to save as many of his own teeth as possible using both dentures and implants only to have Dr. Cumplito leave the location altogether the week of scheduled surgery. A new dentist was assigned but her treatment plan included the removal of all of his teeth instead, resulting in full dentures. This change warranted several meetings with both the new dentist as well of Office Manager James Russell. One of the selling points of this alternate plan was that it was would be far less expensive and that the entire balance could be placed on a Care Credit account. On November 8, 2021 we recapped the final cost with Manager James ($6499 less our $1000 deposit to equal $5499 balance, all told) of which we reconfirmed several times would be the absolute final price. I expressed to James that we had read many recent bait and switch reviews online from Aspen. His reply, several times was Relax, this is the bottom line, your grand total from start to finish. He highlighted the attached invoice (SEE EXHIBIT B) balance in yellow marker. Mr. O had his entire set of teeth extracted, waited out the six months required (to allow mouth to heal before denture fitting) and was given a flimsy temporary partial to use in the meantime. During this waiting period he was hospitalized on three occasions, developed heightened cardiac and GI complications and lost 40 pounds. He was forced to abruptly leave the workforce in February 2022 as he is now permanently disabled, still fighting to regain strength and weight at the time of this letter. Upon our first visit back to Aspen Dental Vero Beach the entire office staff, including James had been replaced by a new office staff and Mr. Os visit to fit his long awaited permanent dentures was denied due to a mistake that previous office manager (James) allegedly made in our account billing. We returned on two additional occasions in August 2022 at the suggestion of new office manager Diana (allowing time for them to work it out). We were handed an additional invoice (see EXHIBIT C) in the amount of $1617.75 with the explanation that James has left us with terrible mistakes here, including this one. Every day I cry over customers that scream at me about problems James made. I understand your frustration but unless you pay this, you cant have the dentures made. An argument ensued and Mr. Os cardiac arrhythmias flared up, bringing him back into the ER along with multiple stress induced Cardiology visits thereafter. We wrote letters to Aspens Corporate office (see attached) and over a month later the REGIONAL Manager (replacing former female) called on Oct 30, 2022, offering to cut the (erroneous) bill in half and ultimately hung up the phone on us. No further calls or emails have been answered, and we are (unequivocally) unwelcome at the local Aspen Dental office. Meanwhile, Mr. O cannot chew solid food, smile or relax due to the painful, broken partial that he is being strong-armed into settling for, now broken in half requiring DIY repairs with glue, during a time that is imperative he consumes a greater daily calorie intake. The mere mention of this practice now brings immediate, unnecessary anxiety and heart palpitations at a time when my husband has barely escaped death and desperately needs peace and proper nutrition - BY CHEWING!!! We are appealing to you to take record of this egregious conduct by Aspen Dental of Vero Beach (R Dustin Dixon DMD Holdings, PLLC) for breaching duty of care, breaching contract and bait and switch tactics still used on us today, even after their recent class action lawsuit ruling for same. Mr. O*** needs and deserves to be using the dentures that he has paid for over a year ago, without further delay. Aspen Dental continues to deprive Mr. O of the full set of dentures that we have paid for, in full, since Nov of 2022. This patients' health remains severely compromised as a direct result of Aspen Dental of Vero Beach's gross negligence/bad acts. ****AVOID THIS PRACTICE AT ALL COSTS****This practice has a PLETHORA of unhappy, discontent and poorly treated patients that post numerous, regular complaints throughout our community's social media, local news and consumer advocacy forums. Aspen Dental of Vero Beach runs local TV commercials making promises that, at this location, are the antithesis of such claims. They are indeed CROOKS that will undoubtedly soon be faced w/ serious sanctions. Stay clear!!!

Original review Nov 01, 2014
My husband called me on his lunch break and asked me to make him an appointment to have a tooth pulled. I called and he had his tooth pulled @ 3:00 on Thursday October 30, 2014. The doctor told him that since the tooth was the source of infection he would not need any antibiotics and was only given Norco for pain. Needless to say when he woke up Friday October 31, 2014 for work his entire left side of his face all the way down his jawline and into his neck is swollen 3 times as it was when he laid down for bed. I called Aspen at 1:00 pm Friday the 31st and seriously had to plead with the dentist to please fax some type of antibiotic to our pharmacy. I explained to him that my husband's face and neck was severely swollen and the pain he is having is beyond that of your typical extraction. He insisted that this swelling is normal and that he didn't need antibiotics because the tooth was gone. After a few more minutes of explaining his symptoms they finally agreed to fax the prescription for him. I gave them the name of the pharmacy as well as the phone number. Thanked them and hung up. Well several hours later, I called my pharmacy to find that they never sent anything for my husband... Who as of right now cannot move his neck and has a temperature and feels weak and faint... I am so angry and I would like some advice as to what I should do from here...I called the emergency line 4 times and was hung up on at least one time on purpose, put on hold and the call was disconnected once. And am currently waiting for a call back from a Doctor supposedly within a 20 min time frame, I'm not going to hold my breath though.
