I was recently involved with American Auto Shield

My engine needed replacement. My car was diagnosed by THREE different CERTIFIED MECHANICS at THREE different repair shops DIFFERENT repair shops. I purchased my vehicle THIRTY MONTHS AGO at the same time I purchased a Platinum Warranty policy from American Auto Shield. I paid $89 a month from then to the present. My car a 2013 Dodge Avenger SXT went down May 27th, 2023. American Auto Shield after much hassle and wasted time in which I lost my job and went through unreasonable hardship told me that unless I authorized for the engine to be torn down at a cost of $3300...Auto Shield refused to honor my submitted warranty claim. I am 71 years old, retired and live off a fixed Social Security income could not afford a $3300 needless expense after 3 certified mechanics diagnosed that the engine needed replacement. Fortunately, the finance company that I had my car through had compassion for my dilemma and financed me another car putting the remaining balance owed to the loan of the newer vehicle. I eight more payments to make on the Dodge, now because of American Auto Shield's unethical indifference I have pay for ANOTHER THREE YEARS. They also took 3 $89 monthly payments from my bank account while my car was tied up in the repair shop, I in essence paid for warranty coverage on a car that Auto Shield KNEW was not running. When I contacted them about refunding SOME of my payments during that period...I was told that I had nothing coming. This is my reason for a review request.

Terrible service on every aspect of this situation

So, the first thing is you'll receive a call from a "US AUTOMOTIVE PROTECTION SERVICES" AKA "AMERICAN AUTO SHIELD" OR "AMERICAN CAR SHEILD" to update the warranty coverage for your new vehicle, after your 3rd or 4th oil change, which these days has 45K-65K Factory Warranty. You purchase that product because the seller tells you all you'll need to do is pick out a rental without any problems. We discussed all the things covered because I use this for work and he is a LIAR!! My trucks' transmission went out (@119,846 miles) at a railroad crossing. Thank goodness the train just finished coming through. When the crossing arm lifted and I proceeded to move forward, my truck would only moved enough to get me onto the track but not across it completely. Thankfully there was another vehicle behind me that had a driver who had helped me push it into the Dollar General P-lot and not another train scheduled until after 6AM. A scary thought when stuck there!! I have paid off the vehicle, paid off the extended warranty company AKA "American Auto Sheild". I also pay full coverage insurance and no body would help me unless I paid an additional $300+(to my insurance company, State Farm) for towing because I was broken down 106 miles from my house. My truck is in the shop (A real Chevy dealership, where I purchased the truck) and they have had my truck since the 1st of May and it's now the 9th of June and my transmission is still not here. They are only covering a refurbished transmission from their warehouse and I have to wait... or pay for a new one on my own!! I have reached out to them repeatedly throughout this ordeal, nearly every few days. They do not return the calls. I have just reached out to the dealership to get a status and they still do not have the refurbished unit and said that the warranty company dropped the ball and did not have the unit shipped originally to meet the expected date timeframe of 26th-30th of May. The unit is supposedly expected to arrive today at some point. However, this is the very exact same statement, word for word, that I have heard now for the fourth time... The unit is expected to arrive today! The dealership would have had me back on the road that very next week after the drop-off. I am not sure, nor could they explain why they could not cover the same cost for the new one and I would cover the final expense. However, I am losing business and being unable to be a financial provider to my family. I am a contractor and this is MY ONLY vehicle for both business and personal. Currently, my only means of transportation is my motorcycle and I perform my duties as a contractor. I just heard their add on the radio again yesterday and I wanted to puke. They US Automotive Protection Services is offering a new low month to month payment and the repair cost outta pocket is little to nothing... No more costly repair bills!!... and free roadside assistance and free towing and free rental and they are BS LIARS!!! But it's on the dam radio!!

You have my car in the shop since 12 September and you don't allow me to get a rental in the meantime I have missed work paid for users and lifts and rental cars out of my pocket and you tell me you would only pay for 2 days I thinks a miscarriage of justice by the way I work 7 days a week

Resolved: Car Shield / American Auto Warranty very hard to use

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. Car Shield has offered me a full refund of @ 20 months premiums.It’s mainly due to my car being somewhat a specialty, Jaguar xk8 convertible, no nearby repair shops want to touch the car &/or don’t accept American Auto Warranty.

I’ve accepted this resolution as very satisfactory. Andrea S.

These companies work in tandem. They try every tactic for u NOT to use their warranty. At this point its not even a matter of coverage, but FINDING ANY REPAIR FACILITY that will take the warranty coverage, rendering this contract useless and misrepresented. Ive paid for 18 months, $99.99 a month, total of $1,793 and the company has spent zero $ on my coverage. WHY is the companys stance so strong against refunding me for a product NEVER USED & CANNOT BE USED by the customer?

Worst warranty company ever

My car was scheduled to do an alternator change and instead of letting the mechanic shop get the part since they have an AutoZone literally attached to the same building, they decided they would order the part from AutoZone themselves, well the part took 4 days to arrive and turns out it was the wrong part. So, an hour after getting my car back, my belt completely shredded to pieces and almost blew my engine. The mechanic takes the car back after realizing they sent the wrong alternator and calls to get the correct one well there goes you guys again wanting to order the part even though you ordered it wrong the first time so here I am 5 days later STILL waiting on the stupid part and the best part is you guys won't even get me a rental because the labor for the work is only ONE hour not your approved 4 hours but yet they have had my car almost 2 weeks. I AM NEVER EVER USING THIS COMPANY AGAIN. WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! And I will NOT recommend it to anyone. You guys even had the audacity to blame AutoZone for sending the wrong part when you fail to realize they sent whatever part YOU ordered, therefore it is YOUR fault not AutoZone. Oh not to mention you guys told me for months that a part was covered on my vehicle but when it came time for the repairs you magically didnt cover it anymore and it cost me $2200 after just paying you guys.

No roadside assistance! Keep away from their plan!

I signed up for their roadside assistance and recently had reason to use it. We had a severe rainstorm on a Sunday and I ran into deep water. The engine shut down. I managed to start it again just enough to pull over on the hard shoulder of a freeway. I had to have a tow, so I called the roadside assistance. It was 20 - 25 minutes for them just to answer the phone! AAA came quickly, and a local towing company came at the same time. I went with the local one as they had a yard where they could put the car overnight. It was close to home. The following morning - no rain, and had the car towed again to my mechanic. I called American Car Shield, and they said to e-mail the invoice and would reimburse the towing charges. Yeah, right! They denied my claim! These people are first class scammers!

Water pump ACS sent was changed 9 months ago. This substandard pump has gone out again and ACS insisted on sending another sub standard pump.

Had my water pump and air conditioner compressor changed less than a year ago with substandard parts sent by ACS, It took two weeks to get approval and parts. When the repairs were completed, I had an out-of-pocket charge of over $700. This below standard water pump has to be changed again and ACS sent another just like the first one. My out-of-pocket charge this time is $515,

PLEASE DO NOT BUY

Absolutely the worst. They claim to cover you (bought gold plan), wait and wait adjusters do not return calls. My out of pocket was $1800 for parts they wouldnt cover on faulty engine they sent to replace mine. I was without a vehicle 7 weeks. I wish I had done due diligence and read all reviews before buying this plan.

To long on the phone trying to get my truck fixed . And a young man how didn't know very much about the case and give me the run-around for over a hour on the phone.

First of all, I couldn't find any repair shop that wanted to accept my plan. Secondly, when I did find one, who was referred, said they would not work with them again. Third, initially, they tried to deny the claim by getting the mechanic to say something else was causing my AC not to work. Fourth, they told the repair shop that I would have to pay the difference in the charge if the shop didn't accept their price. Fifth they sent a rebuilt compressor that the shop could not guarantee. DddDDisgusting

Unhappy with warranty

American Auto Shield contacted me and we were able to come to a amicable resolution concerning my warranty coverage and how it applied to the vehicle that I have in the Ford dealership in Austin, Texas for repairs. American Auto Shield satisfied my needs and my warranty concerns with respect to my vehicle that I currently have in for repairs. I am a satisfied customer of American Auto Shield.

Unprofessional treatment of customer

hello, CLAIM NR# 119**** my vehicle is sitting at the dealership since 6/1/21. buick dealership in st. petersburg, florida contacted your company numerous time, waiting an average over 20 minutes and no one answered. per your request i sent you all information you requested regarding my vehicle. still no answer. today is 06/07/21. this is beyond unprofessional. Lack of service by American Auto Shield

3 weeks in shop and they keep delaying getting my car fixed! keep on asking for different things. now new pictures of cyl walls why not send an adjuster there? what a disappointing company. if you want arbitration or litigation have to wait until they make determination which could take months. DONT BELIEVE THE CAR SHIELD COMMERCIALS. GO ELSEWHERE

Horrible service

I have a Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 that i purchased an extended warranty for with car shield. the plan i purchased was supposed to cover the engine and engine parts. i needed the oil cooler system replaced according to the Mercedes dealership. Needless to say, the American auto shield did not cover that part of the engine. Since when does a part of the engine that involves oil be not included in the main components of an engine warranty? both john and kelsie provide no assistance when i talked to them about not covering the engine part. car shield warranties SUCKdo not purchase from car shield

Denial of Auto Repairs after providing 24 months of maintenance records

Car broke down 4 Dec 2020 -Towed to Auto Shop/American Auto Shield approved for diagnosis $750 -I'm now stuck with a $750 and towing fee of $200 and Storage Fees - I am on a fixed income and a 100% Disable Veteran -I did 3 tours overseas fighting for Americans Liberty's and for this car warranty to even exist and this is how "American Auto Shield" TREATED ME. American Auto Shield should be ashamed to the word American attach to their product. :Change it to SCAM THE DISABLE AUTO SHIELD -Auto Shop called American Auto Shield ob 8 Dec 2020 for an inspector and was informed by Derek K of Southwest Inspection his day does not start until 930am. It took more than 20 more times from the Auto Shop and 11 calls from me throughout the month of December to get someone to finally come out to inspect the car and of course the repairs was denied on 7 Jan 202. -American Auto Shield requested 12 months of maintenance records I proved 24 months of records as vast of my maintenance was performed at the Dodge Dealership (my vehicle is a 2009 Dodge Charge, so I normally go to the manufacturer dealership) -American Auto Shield stated via a short email the repair was denied for sludge in the engine. The Dodge Dealership Mechanic stated this is normal wear and tear for a vehicle this age, and he can tell the vehicle is well taken care of and the maintenance states how the oil changes were performed well with in the manufacture requirements. -Derek K for Southwest was very unprofessional and he and the Dodge Service Rep had so words prior to his arrival 26 days later to include contacting his supervisor, so his inspection denial is base on his problem with the Auto Shop not the vehicle maintenance. I have four vehicles with American Auto Shield. They will all be cancelled this month January 2021. Also, 7 of my church members will cancel their policy as well since one of them are experiencing the same issues with American Auto Shield. -We seeking to start a class action lawsuit against American Auto Shield as this SCAM needs to STOP
