DECEPTIVE COMPANY

Had an account with AT&T Uverse which was never used. Had it installed and didn't work so returned it to AT&T. They billed us anyways and it was sent to collections for $229. AFNI sent a letter in which we contacted them about the $229. We agreed to pay the $229 if AFNI would remove it from our credit. The representative agreed and said if it was paid in full they would remove it from credit reporting agencies. We paid the $229 and it wasn't removed from the credit bureaus. We contacted AFNI and they said it would be removed in 7 years from when it was paid. This company will lie and get you to pay your collections by telling you what ever they need to tell you and then not do what they said they would do. They are very deceptive and will not do what they say they are going to do. DON'T TRUST WHAT ANY REPRESENTATIVE FROM AFNI SAYS.

AFNI SCAM

they are trying to force me to pay a Direct TV account. This would be fine except I never had an account with and was verified by Direct TV. I have ordered them to prove the account or pay me 109x the amounts with an additional 10x for every time it appears on any credit report. In my state they have to have a license to do business and pay taxes, guess who doesn't. So far it cost me a filing fee (56.00) they sent an non existent account number, toll, etc. File the typical prove it letter and include in it to clear the credit report or by default the stipulate to pay you. When they refuse to answer then you by law and place this in the letter,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, then you stipulate the terms are correct and they stipulate to them. its the reversal of them assuming there bill is correct. Scam the scammer for a few dollars.

They actually helped me!

I know there are a lot of negative experiences with AFNI. I too was very unhappy to see a collection from AFNI on my CreditKarma report. This was for a $300 DirecTV bill, which was for a home we sold back in January (5 months ago), thought the DTV account was closed, but it wasn't. Never got a past due bill or notice from DTV, either by email or postal mail (forwarded to new address). Contacted DTV by email, explained, they said they decided NOT to remove the collection because "they weren't guilty" in not letting me know a past due bill was accruing. I even went so far as to send the CEO, and the VP of Customer relations, an Express Mail letter, with explanation, copies of my 2 years of PERFECT DirecTV payments prior to this, plus printout of the 60+ point drop my credit score suffered b/c of this idiocy. No help. No reply. I contacted AFNI via e-mail, and mail, and also explained the situation to them (also, probably it helped that I paid the bill IMMEDIATELY as soon as I found out about it). I then called them, and agent was very helpful. Within 48 hours, I got notice that they sent a request to have the collection removed from my record. In a week or so, it was gone completely from all 3 bureau reports. So while I understand many have had negative relations with them, and the situation of having to contact a debt collector about a collection is already a bad situation, my experience was good. I explained my situation, paid immediately, and they helped me with doing what I asked. DirecTV, however, are complete A_holes, and they won't be getting a dime of my TV programming spending, ever, ever, ever. They just lost a potential 40+ additional year customer, at $140/month, all because they refused to take 30 seconds and type in a few keys to remove a collection report. Idiots.

I have never felt so scared about going to work and being fired for not making my goal. I feel even worse for the customers my heart goes out to each and every one of them! I am looking for a new job because if I don't i will have a mental break down ! This truly a business/ job you never want to deal with at all. Oh and the supervisors that everyone ask for there a joke they cant do anything for you if in fact they do want to answer your call 1

I worked for Afni in Opelika, Alabama

I was poorly trained, for customer service via chat. Once I was out of training I did not know how to use a lot of the systems they wanted us to log into, my "coach" supervisor was out of work the 1st 3 weeks. Never met her. She did not even know who I was until she decided to have me fired. Made me leave my personal belongings at my cubicle to take me to the office. Someone brought my purse and other belongings to the office while I was in the room and someone went into my purse got out my badge and took my money!!!!!!!! No one will do anything about this!!!!! They tried to make it not be racist by using the white man in the office. I was the only white girl on her team. They refused to go over my "absent" days or even let me read the paper work. Most days the time clocks in the building did not work and it was up to your "coach" to fix this. Also the white hr man told me he would make sure I did not draw unemployment. While I was in the office the OM & a couple of other coachs were laughing and saying go ahead and just end her chats (I was in the middle of changing a lady's plan) she's fired anyway. Verizon says afni empolyees are to never end chat on a customer, they ended chat that day on 2. I was good at the job. I would have gotten insurance as of 6/1 was fired on 6/11 and was told my insurance would end that day. I received the cards after 6/11 and my last paycheck that should have been over 32hrs was 21hrs and they took it all for benefits. I contacted the hr dept and she said I should have told her I had not gotten my cards, I did go to her after the 1st to let her know I had not gotten any insurance cards. She said I would have to get with my "coach" to fix my hours. Well she wouldn't help me when I worked there why the *** would she help me now??? They are the most racist, unfair, lying place of business!!! So now I have no job, no paycheck because they "claim" it all went for benefits that I NEVER GOT TO USE!!!!! I think Verizon should check the contract they have with this racist business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So know my kids will not eat and I paid for insurance that I NEVER COULD USE!!!!!!

AFNI put me in collections for an account that should be closed

AFNI has on my credit report that I owe them 507 for a Verizon wireless bill thats over 5 years old. I was let out of my contract due to the simple fact that I had no service were I lived. I even spoke to the President of Verizon's Secretary and secured that deal. To my knowledge I was let out of it as I should have been. I check my credit report today(I admit I rarely check it) and see a bill for 507 on it that was put into collections by Verizon and I guess, "sold" to AFNI as who I should pay it to. I do NOT owe this bill!!. 100% a false hit to my credit but I have no idea how to contest this. Even the date it was put into collections is wrong. I have none of that information anymore as it was so long ago, I thought I wouldn't need it. What can I do?.

How an Ex Employee would handle an Afni bill

I am posting this to actually try and help you, and I encourage you to keep that in mind and read thoroughly through all that I have to say. I was previously a debt collector employed at Afni, and I am going to let you know what I would do if I received a bill from Afni, or had a listing on my credit report from them, and you can go from there. Let me first explain the difference between debt purchase collections and 3rd party collections. A debt that has been purchased is a bill that the collection agency now owns (these are the accounts that they paid pennies on the dollar for). With 3rd party collections the original creditor (ex:ATT, Dish Network, Direct TV, Sprint, Verizon, etc) still owns the account. If Afni was handling one of my outstanding bills, my goal would be to make the bill completely go away (without paying)and be removed from my credit report, or if that was not a possibility, I would want to ensure that it does not affect my credit. The first thing that I would want to find out when I call in is if the account is owned by Afni or if they are a 3rd party collection agency. I would make sure they clearly told me, and not just ‘we are handling the account’, which could be either. If it is an account that they owned I would be claiming identity theft. By getting the account closed as identity theft I would not have to pay it and it would be removed from my credit. I would expect Afni to tell me there is going to be an ‘investigation’, but I would have no worries about any actual legal investigation or myself having to provide proof of what I say. I would expect the debt collector to ask me questions trying to link me to the bill as the actual investigation. I would ask what address the service or bills were sent to, and then make sure that I never confirm that I have any connection to that address. I would expect them to be skip tracing and maybe even bring up names of people that I know. I would never confirm that I know these people, even if they have the same last name. I would be confident that doing this does not put anyone else at risk, even if the debt collector tries to intimidate me of that. Then I would t confirm that they are noting it as possible ID theft, and then I would call back in 1-2 weeks to see if the account had closed. If so, I would request a credit delete letter faxed to me. If the account is not closed, I would call the credit bureaus and claim ID theft and then check back with Afni in another 2 weeks. I would not attempt identity theft if Afni is a 3rd party. My reason for this is that the original creditor will require things like police reports, proof of residency, and fraud affidavits filed. These companies also have much more information on the account, and they will be able to do a better investigation. Also, they will still be getting a portion of what I pay if I do pay it, and paying the company that you actually owe is the right thing to do. So, if Afni is the 3rd party collection agency, my concern is then having it removed from my credit, not updated as paid. To do this, it is important to make them think that I learned about them owning the bill by checking my credit, not from receiving a letter from them. I would want to check my credit before I called in to see if it is on there, then I could call in and say ‘I saw this on my credit and I didn’t even know this bill was with you, what address did you send something notifying me to?’ No matter if they have the correct address for me or not, I would tell them they sent it to the wrong address. At some point I would be certain to ask for a credit DELETION because I never received a first notice. Is it on my credit and are they going to remove it are very important questions to answer if I am planning on paying the bill with Afni. 3rd party collection agencies only have the accounts for a certain time period, and it is typically 6 months or 12 months. When the agencies time frame is up, the listing on the credit will have to be removed and the account is placed with a new agency. The new agency will then be required by law to wait at least 30 days before reporting it. If Afni will not remove it, I would ask them when they received the account and then keep an eye on the account and catch it right when it changes agencies so that I could pay it before the new agency has the chance to report it. If I was planning on doing payment arrangements, I would just set the money aside each month and save it until it switches agencies (why would I give a dime to Afni if they refuse removal?). When it switches agencies I could then pay them what I had saved, and if I still could not pay the bill in full, I would try to work out a payment arrangement were they will agree to not report it. If I was in a situation that I was trying to use my credit and I could not wait for the account to move to another agency, I would then resort to filing a complaint with the Attorney General and BBB to see if Afni changes its position on doing a credit removal. No matter what route I had to go, I would keep a couple things in mind. #1. I would be nice to the debt collector. They are just a person doing their job and they do put up with a lot of abuse. Being a *** to these people will not help out what I am trying to do, but if I am nice to them it may help the cause. A lot of the things they say come from company expectations. If you are mean to them they may use the company policies and the guidelines as a way to get back at you, but if you are nice, they may use them to your advantage. #2. Carefully think everything over and plan everything before making the call. Debt collectors are lied to all the time, and they are trained to catch you up in your lies. EVERYONE slips up when they lie!!! #3. Again, I would be nice to the debt collector. They probably just got done being yelled at by some *** before I called in, and at certain point this can begin to affect how they talk to others. No matter how the conversation goes, I would also expect the collector to do something like acknowledge what I say to them, then use an empathy statement, then point out how I am responsible for the bill, then talk about resolving it and a benefit, followed by telling me to grab debit/credit card, or checkbook. For example, if I was disputing a bill with Afni due to poor service with the original creditor, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear them say ‘So the service was bad and you decided to cancel, I’m sure that can be frustrating to have to deal with. However, you are responsible for any bills before you canceled. We could put this behind you and get your credit updated. Grab your debit or credit card, or we accept check by phone’. Once again, I would expect them to ACKNOWLEDGE/USE EMPATHY, POINT OUT RESPONSIBILITY, OFFER TO RESOLVE/BENEFITS, then I would expect to hear the words DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD, or CHECK BY PHONE.

Verification of debt

Afni a consumer collection agency reported me as owing 200 dollars. I found this out when I ordered a copy of my credit report. Disputed the account and the company places a grid g code on my credit report. Number i Company never sent a letter, S I sent a letter for verification of debt . I am yet to receive such letter. By law if collection companys dont verify debt ,they can be sued in small claims court. AFNI also falsified information of when the account was opend. All I want is this information removed from my credit report. thanks

Unprofessional

again. When I first contacted AFNI the woman I spoke with told me that I was irresponsible for not paying my bills, but this wasn't even my debt. It was my husband's debt which was from 2003 and we never met until 2007. How dare this woman tell me I am irresponsible! I don't have any collection accounts and this woman does not know me. I proceeded to tell her that she has is rude and unprofessional and then I hung up. The second time I called I got another rude customer service agent who told me that I cuss too much and they wouldn't talk to me so I finally got a manager on the phone who actually helped me. Go figure, I want to get a debt paid and this is how I am treated. Anyway I paid the debt but I checked on hubby's credit and this account is under dispute. Well I guess AFNI decided to put this account into dispute even though I never disputed it. So when I called to discuss this the man tells me that when I called before I told them that, "I didn't care about my husband's credit and we didn't know what this debt was." What? Are you serious? How unprofessional! Once again! I never said that, I simply told the first woman I had no control over my husband when this debt occurred because we didn't know each other at the time. Unreal! I hate AFNI! AFNI gets my blood boiling every time I have called them because of the rude and snide comments that come from their mouths which set me off. What am I supposed to do, sit on the line and let them berate me? No I am going to stand up for myself. If I didn't care about my husband's debt I would never have paid AFNI!

Afni, trying to collect on a 6 year old paid bill!

I got a collection notice in the mail from Afni, for a tmobile bill I paid over 6+ years ago. They can't give me any information on where the bill has been for the last 6 years and my ex and I paid if after going our separate ways in late 2004. If this company calls you give them no information they don't already have and verify nothing with them, that's how they get you! Someone needs to do something about this company and the companies that sell them this bogus information. They are selling old customer information to afni and afni is banking you you caring enough about your credit that you will just pay it.

Afni 'family day' picnic only let the employee eat, not the family

Saturday Aug21st afni call center 'family day picnic' , we showed up (the 4 of us). Was told at the sign-in table that my wife could eat because she was an employee, but not the rest of us. We brought our daughter,38 yrs old and our granddaughter 18 yrs old and was told we could still play on the playground equipment if we wanted to. My wife has worked there 7yrs and it just really seemed odd because we know many of the employees. I was looking forward to some fried chicken!...However some of the managers were showing up just to get large roasting pans full of food to take home to their 'families' like it was some kind of drive thru! Needless to say we didn't get a balloon, and we weren't eligible for the raffle either.so we left.

Verizon sicks AFNI on me after paid in full.

I received a strange phone call from 877-497-**** showing "Toll Free Call" and called back the number. The message said "Thank you for calling Afni Collections" and to go to their website at www.afnicollections.com to manage my account....mmmm... well after searching "Afni" on the net, come to find out they are the collectors for Verizon. Checked my bank account to see if my payment to Verizon had cleared and what do you know, Verizon cashed the lousy $200.00 I owed for breaking the contract- had to move- so they are paid in full.....AFNI better not be calling me back. I'm PISSED.....

AFNI Scams Verizon Customers

This is a new one I think. I go into collections with AFNI for $577, said it was for Verizon charges --- so called split bill. The number Verizon associated with the charges was from a disconnected Magic Jack number. Of course Verizon claimed they sold all of the collection information to AFNI and AFNI did not know what the charges were for...hahaha good one! Was this a scam? A mistake? Who profits --- did not get my money. Called both Verizon and RIP OFF AFNI and made them prove the charges were mine..they could not. Call this Verizon number to cut the red-tape 877.325.5156 and 888.879.6810 for AFNI.
